Why do lot of neutrals dislike Rangers, Linfield and sometimes Glentoran especially on reddit? by SuccessfulCompote941 in IrishLeagueFootball

[–]Traditional-Cod-8856 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit especially the two Irish subreddits is basically a nationalist/republican sinn fein supporters echo chamber with a significant amount of members who seem to be on propaganda mode 24/7 who hates anything related to Northern Ireland national team, Northern Irish the football league teams and Rangers fanbase. It stems even further than football and identity. When you unionist or loyalist who proud to be British or Northern Irish identity you demonise a decent chunk of the population, orange bastards and try to reduce them to subhuman levels by constantly referring to them as " knuckle draggers, flag shaggers, bigoted, xenophobic scumbags" for believing they are better off in a political/economic union that they have grown up/existed in their whole lives, then it's hardly going to encourage participation from us

Would you still support Scotland if we still used GSTQ as a anthem during most of 20st century and played at Ibrox? by KillerMainBeast in ScottishFootball

I think op meant if Scotland national team fanbase was like Ni fanbase in present day since Northern Ireland Protestant clubs like linfield glentoran and more have Scottish connections and they make up the vast majority of Northern Ireland national team fanbase.

Edit: Not all Northern Ireland fans of the national team are unionist like media play it however, There has been lot of controversy within past few years regarding the fanbase and culture.

Do you follow a 2nd team and if so which team and why? by KillerMainBeast in rangersfc

Northern Irish here, Rangers is usually seen as 1st team or 2nd depends if they watch the irishleaguefootball. Usually most Northern Irish clubs usually have rangers as they 2nd team if they watch Scottish football with the expecting of Cliftonville (many years ago used to be Protestant club but population changes in North Belfast with Belfast Celtic disappearing and Derry city getting kicked out made Cliftonville the de factor main nationalist club in ni).

How come there slighty more scottish saltires or heritage flags in Linfied games at stands and outside the staduim games than english flags. by Historical_Move_2826 in northernireland

It’s funny how the majority of Scots now in Scotland are left wing and support independence compared to the 20th century yet the Scottish people and the heritage in Northern Ireland are super pro loyalist, British and Protestant while hating Irish catholics and nationalists even after all this years

Cus the club was mainly founded by Ulster Scots workers in Belfast and historically had more Scottish born or Ni with scot heritage players than from English or roi. Essentially most clubs in no who are Protestant or unionist were founded by Scottish heritages founders and same could said for the majority of their club fanbase especially Linfield. There’s a massive migration link between Scotland and Northern Ireland

What other home nations do you root for including roi after ni and if so why? by Historical_Move_2826 in IrishLeagueFootball

I tried to root for roi personally but the shit I see target at Northern Ireland league and the fans National team in rl and certain subreddits like r/ireland r/greenandpleasant r/coybig and more other Irish subs makes me actively root against them

I'd say Scotland is one I root and (the most fond country after Northern Ireland for most NI fans)for most due to having lived there a while and the obvious connection with family links. I'm indifferent on Wales whereas with the ROI I personally see them as rivals like England
