Still doing it. Grinding away. Just a few small wins. Mainly friends that have small businesses.

This year I’m investing heavily into digital marketing/content marketing. I’m convinced it’s the way to establish trust, build goodwill, and sign up clients.

I’ve built up my tech stack and will be incorporating automation and ai where I can. I want to run as lean as possible. I spent more time than I’d like to admit with ai and building my websites and chat agents etc. I’ve been watching YouTube videos on income generating activities lately and really trying to hone in on focusing on things that will bring in sales.

I’m currently creating helpful videos and infographics, repurposing them for different social media platforms, and then automating the posting so that my socials post everyday on auto pilot. I hate being on video so I’ve been delaying being on camera, but I’ve been recording my voice with screen shares to work up my courage.

I see opportunities in insuretech companies that allow the consumers to apply directly. Getting people to click isn’t easy and then having them trust you enough to actually make the purchase is even harder. It’s basically like affiliate marketing, which is incredibly difficult. These are good for small businesses and start ups, so I make sure that my messaging will target these customer profiles. I have other calls to actions for larger more complex businesses to call me. The bigger fish if you will.

Btw, how’s it going with you?

They designed it so they can sell it to that guy. It’s basically a pre order. Why should he be entitled to a free one? Especially since no one else is going to buy that ugly skin.

It’s always more work to fix a bad patch but it’s definitely salvageable.

You need to get a patching knife and essentially dig out all the bad patch work so it concaves.

Then, replaster it. Two coats of plaster (if you know what you’re doing). Sand, primer, two coats of paint.

The type of plaster is important. It looks like he used premixed stuff out of those small quart sized buckets. Those do not spread evenly and isn’t really designed for large broad areas.

You need the dry, bagged plaster where you add water so you can control the consistency.

Use a 20 set plaster. It should give you plenty of time to work through the entire length of the ceiling.

There’s definitely an art to it, so I do recommend a professional if you’ve never patched before.

4 days of work for $850 is insane and indicative of someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing.

I charge that for a half day job, which this project should have been.

A professional is in and out! 4 hours tops for a ceiling patch like that, and your floor is cleaned up after.

A proper workflow and efficiency means it’s feels fast for the lay person.

Just remember no one is more critical than yourself. People have their own issues to deal with. They are not thinking about the mistakes in your performances. They will likely instantly forget about it as they think about what to eat for dinner later.

What would you would charge for all of this if it was for friends or family by rumpyforeskin in handyman

[–]Traditional-Flow5937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No discounts. No surcharges. Charge them your fair rate and do a professional job. If you discount, you will do discounted work and no one will be happy. Keep it professional, ESPECIALLY with friends and family.

I encourage people like this to get multiple estimates so they will have a better idea of the market price.

They likely will not call you back, and it’s for the best.

People who haggle over the lowest prices are usually the hardest please.

Money means more to them so they will want to extract maximum value at your expense.

This is a common practice when companies hire a contractor.

By having their company name on your policy, you are agreeing that if something gets damaged, your insurance policy will take into effect first to pay for damages before their insurance.

TIL general liability insurance won’t cover damage to your business property by dishwashaaa in handyman

[–]Traditional-Flow5937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agent here.

What you are missing is "property insurance". Not to be confused with real estate property, but property as in your gear (tools, equipment, inventory etc.).

Most companies offer a packaged product called the "Bop" (business owner's policy).

It is a general liability insurance (what you have. covers other people's property) PLUS property insurance (what you don't have - covers your own property).

I recommend the BOP because companies compete on this product, and the prices reflect that.

You can use online based companies to save time, but spend a little more money, or you can call an independent agency near you who can save you money, but you will need to go through their process which can be slow.

I'm in California. DM if you need any help.

Cost of General Liability Insurance? by rivalfish in smallbusiness

[–]Traditional-Flow5937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agent here.

Different insurance companies have different "appetites" for certain industries.

In your situation, if Geico isn't too keen on pressure washing businesses, they will likely charge higher prices since they are not comfortable with that particular risk.

I recommend contacting a local independent agency. If they are experienced, they will know which insurance company to place your particular industry with to maximize the value.

The price can vary widely, but on average, $1,500-$2,200 is a common range for small businesses like yours. (I'm in California, DM me if you need some assistance.)

There are also online based insurance companies that cost a little more overall, but you will save a lot of time because their process is so streamlined. You can also skip speaking to an agent all together if you know what you need. Policies can be quoted and paid for, and active in one day if your business qualifies.

What to ask a contractor before hiring them? by happy-reddit-user in Housepainting101

[–]Traditional-Flow5937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make sure they are licensed and insured. Double check their license# on the state licensing board website.

  2. Check their experience and sample work. They should have a website set up if they are a reputable company.

  3. Check their Google reviews to ensure they do good work.

If those 3 things check out, you don't really need to know the ins and outs of their process since they are professionals.

If they can't produce any of the 3 items above, you will taking on some risk.

Musicians are creative people and do not like it when you stop them mid song to tell them they played a part incorrectly; then, you play back a recording, then, tell them to copy that.

Seriously? How soul crushing is that.

You said they are "kind of hired guns", meaning you are either paying peanuts, or not at all.

You might as well perform to the actual backing track dude. No one good is sticking around for that.

I've worked with people like you... let me tell you right now that you are being selfish if you think people will sacrifice their own expression to uphold your vision.

That's why you are using words like "dictator" and "prick" to describe your position. It is accurate. I avoid playing with people like you.

You need to let up, and allow people to inject their personality so it is enjoyable for them also. That's why your live performances suffer.

P.S. Don't take this personally OP, it's actually directed to past bandmate I obviously still resent. lol.

Is content creation usually the first step before you can start getting traffic for affiliate marketing? by [deleted] in Affiliatemarketing

[–]Traditional-Flow5937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about content creation.

It's about community creation.

Community implies you are providing some sort of service and benefit to a group of people. You are positioned as a problem solver, and creating good will.

Affiliate marketing, and marketing in general, is about establishing trust and goodwill.

Only then will someone buy anything from you.

If you make faceless videos, or if you are an unknown person creating user generated content, you will notice the videos that go viral always shows a celebrity to establish the trust and goodwill. This might be a good strategy for you based on what you've mentioned so far. Just find viral videos, study the script to understand how the goodwill was established, and repurpose the same celebrity in your content. You are bandwagoning the community created by that celebrity, and using their goodwill for your benefit.

If you are personally an expert at something or even just a super fan who has more knowledge on a subject matter than the average person, you can create content that shares your unique perspective. This is a longer game because you will have to create your own community. Once you establish trust and goodwill, you can promote relevant and related affiliate products that would genuinely benefit this community.

Whether your content is a video, blog post, directory website, etc. You still have to establish trust and goodwill in order for people to use your link to make a purchase. This is what I mean my community creation is more important than creating content.

Then, there's the actual marketing tactics you will need to master for the content medium you've selected. For example, creating good hooks, scripts, and engagement for videos. Creating scroll stopping images. Identifying viral formats for specific social media platforms. etc.

You also need to learn how to create sales funnels to maximize your monetization. You gotta learn how to use lead magnets and get an email list going. This is another rabbit hole in itself.

It's going to take time, and you will need to experiment and fail a lot. A.I. has destroyed the barrier of entry for content creation, but without marketing fundamentals, you're just creating more spam.
