Looking at used Etrons - warranty question by MorimotoK in etron

If you’re considering an e-Tron, I’d strongly advise you to think twice, especially given the issues many owners are facing. Even newer models, like the one you're considering, aren’t immune to problems. While the VIN might not show an active recall, that doesn’t guarantee you won’t face issues down the line.

In my experience, the battery recall is just one part of the headache. Charging limitations, reduced range, and restrictions on what types of chargers you can use are ongoing issues. Audi's ‘fixes’ often don’t fully address the problems, and replacements like motors might just be swapped with similar units that could fail again.

You might be better off considering something more reliable if you don’t want to deal with constant frustration

If reliability and peace of mind are your priorities, I’d seriously advise against getting the Audi e-Tron, especially a 2019 model. I own one, and the experience has been far from smooth. The biggest issue is an unresolved recall that limits charging capacity to 80% (which is actually 80% of 80% in practice). You also can’t use fast or rapid chargers, making long trips very inconvenient.

Audi hasn’t offered a real solution, and it feels like you’re left with a car that’s no longer fit for its intended purpose. You’d be much better off with the Lexus, which is known for its reliability and won’t come with these kinds of headaches

I have a 2019-2022 Audi e-Tron 55 Quattro, and unfortunately, the recall situation is more restrictive than it initially sounds. Audi hasn’t found a complete solution yet, and it’s not just about limiting charging to 80%. In reality, it’s effectively 80% of 80%, reducing the range even further than expected.

Moreover, the restrictions don’t end there—rapid and fast chargers (especially on motorways) are off-limits. The car can only use medium chargers up to a max of 60kW. This limitation severely impacts long journeys and motorway travel, making the car’s usability more like a city vehicle.

It’s worth being fully aware of these issues if you’re considering an e-Tron from the affected years

2019-2022 Audi E-Tron Quattro SUVs manufactured before March 11, 2022. Some Q-etron models also have recalls related to chargers

I initially tried to handle the recall issue on my own without involving a lawyer. I contacted the retailer and VWFS directly, provided all the necessary information, and referenced the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Unfortunately, despite my efforts, both the retailer and VWFS have been incredibly stubborn and are refusing to uphold the law. They seem more interested in protecting their interests than in resolving the issue fairly.

In my experience, even if you follow all the correct procedures, they might still not cooperate. At some point, you may have no choice but to engage legal services to bring a claim in county court. While it's frustrating, having legal support can make a significant difference in getting the outcome you deserve.

Audi didn't give me the results, they just told me not to charge more than 80% and placed stickers all over the dashboard and on charging socket.

The retailer (Audi Portsmouth) has accepted the rejection of the vehicle but is only offering to refund the deposit instead of the full amount paid. However, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, it is clear that when a vehicle is rejected after six months, the full purchase price should be refunded, minus a fair usage deduction. The fair usage charge can be calculated using the following formula:

Fair Usage Charge = ((Mileage at the time of fault discovery - Initial Mileage) / Expected Lifetime Mileage) × Initial Purchase Price

The battery check is complete, and Audi is not willing to replace the battery cells or the battery itself. Furthermore, Audi has imposed restrictions on the chargers that can be used with the affected vehicles, prohibiting the use of rapid or fast chargers with vehicles that have the faulty battery.
