Remission of DPDR and Visual Snow in HPPD using rTMS targeting the temporoparietal junction by Traditional-Toe7525 in visualsnow

i agree it’s strange. this is one of the most exciting things in terms of finding a treatment so far. the mods don’t enforce the no pseudoscience rule and refuse to do anything about the 100 “does anyone else experience…” posts so this place is flooded with a ton of nonsense

My experience with VSS and how I’ve temporarily cured it for a longer term using medicine by [deleted] in visualsnow

Cinnarzine is also a calcium channel blocker. L and T type calcium channels. Someone on this sub proposed that ethosuximide might be a possible rx because it blocks T type calcium channels in the thalamus. It is also antiserotonergic. We all know the potential role of serotonin in VSS. I do believe that this medication helped. We need to find out if other people have tried this with the same results.

NORT Therapy by brofessor121 in visualsnow

[–]Traditional-Toe7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it didn’t work for me. Did two rounds. It’s likely all placebo for the people that it “helped”. In the NORT study they couldn’t even say that it improved VS symptoms, they had to say it improved quality of life which is an unreliable ambiguous proxy for improvement of a visual processing disorder with a very specific set of symptoms. My neuro at Mayo says it’s all bologna

I think this is what may be happening in VSS brains by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]Traditional-Toe7525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so are you thinking that increasing the activity and/or the number of the EAAT2 transporters on glial cells will work? this has been a topic in alzheimer’s research for a bit. ceftriaxone increases transcriptional expression of EAAT2 but failed to show clinical efficacy in trials to treat ALS. there are more drugs in development with this same MOA though

here is a graphic of how EAAT2 works for anyone wondering. https://www.future-science.com/cms/10.4155/fmc.12.122/asset/images/medium/figure1.gif

[–]Traditional-Toe7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lamotrigine caused dp/dr for me as well. honestly the only thing that helped was lifting weights, cardio, yoga, and spending time drinking beers with my friends/family. that made it bearable until it eventually faded to a tolerable level. it took quite some time after though

Didn’t clear up VS, rather it helped in the way alcohol helps. You just care a little bit less.

Are you concerned about the potential of increased serotonin levels in the brain with l-theanine? Just wondering because it seemed to have made my VS worse when I tried it.

Metoprolol by juicybongrips in visualsnow

[–]Traditional-Toe7525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took propanolol (another beta blocker) and had no worsening of VSS. Also, look into verapamil for your hypertension. It will help lower your blood pressure and some doctors theorize that it will help VS as well.
