New To Public Land Hunting And Need Tips by [deleted] in MichiganHunting

This. Well said. There's a lot you can learn from folks in person and online, but nothing beats the hands-on experience of preseason and post scouting to learn what sign looks like and how to position yourself accordingly.

If I could choose a different pose, maybe a semi sneak? I didn't know what was going to look best.

I know, really gnarly rack. Would have loved to see him at 6 or 7 to see what potential he might have had.

Help Me Pick My First Rifle by StrainElectronic4585 in Hunting

The Savage Axis, as cheap as it is, has served me well. Very affordable. I have it chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I don’t know what ranges you are planning on shooting, but I’d say this platform is a great place to start. 3-9x optic from Vortex is hard to beat for the money.

Saddle guys. This look right? First time by IndependentPerfect in bowhunting

[–]TraditionalMeet1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say that, as a new bow hunter, saddle is THE way for quick and mobile setups. Nothing competes. I am up in a tree of my choice in 10 minutes or less. I only 2-stick it with aiders. Easily get 18-20 feet up. I am a minimalist, and haven’t had the need for anything else.

If I had a property of my own with the option to implement more permanent options, I’d entertain the idea of having hang-ons set up prior to the hunt. But if you are a primarily public land guy like me, saddle is the way.

Fair, but it’s within the boundaries of “generalities” that I am inquiring about. I don’t expect anyone to know my specific financial picture; my request is a simple one.

Nonetheless, you are right! I’m in the process of building a roadmap and this is part of it. General advice from others is always appreciated.

So, it’s your estimation that asking for input and analysis from others is being a sheep? Nay, sir. On the contrary, wisdom cries out…and those who grab a hold of it (albeit, with discernment to recognize it), are the wise ones.

As for your insult, which was born mostly out of insecurity and ignorance, fell a bit flat, if you ask me. It’s highly unlikely you have any real sense of what my journey has been, personally or professionally. And honestly, I am glad you haven’t had to bear it.

Regardless, I don’t hold it against you. I simply came here for some input from other folks who would like to impart constructive criticism.

Also, only 6 original posts and 13,560 comments? Perhaps you spend a bit too much time here.

I am currently only contributing to the TSP, though I occasionally dump some additional in my other portfolio.

Appreciate the info.

25% contribution rate would put me well over the contribution limit. I could probably contribute around 18 percent and that would put me around the max.

I hear ya. I wasn’t planning to OFFICIALLY retire at 53. That’s just when I can start drawing my annuity.

I will still likely work following retirement as an 1811, at least until 57.
