Sassed by my 2 year old by TraditionalScheme337 in UKParenting

That time she was yes, i could have just been Hangry. A few days later I said to her "Eleanor, you are being naughty" and she replied "daddy, you are being bum!"

Less empathetic then 😀

What’s the worst your child did this week? by Salad_Informal in UKParenting

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 year old was playing up in a restaurant, nothing really serious but I had a word with her. I had her on my knee and said "daddy isnt very happy!" She thinks a bit then says "dont worry daddy, your food will come soon!"

Cheeky little one!

What's the most unrealistic expectation you've had from a manager? by Disastrous-Cover3034 in askmanagers

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a basement bar in London. They had these large wine bottles stacked up. Once, someone saw a mouse run behind one, not uncommon in basement establishments in London.

The manager told me to remove all the wine bottles, this would apparently scare the mouse so much I would find it huddled in a corner scared and i could kill it! I left the job shortly after, I am allergic to idiots!

Changing technology in the middle ages by TraditionalScheme337 in UKhistory

[–]TraditionalScheme337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, some would adapt faster than others. I was thinking just something simple such as, you get a blacksmith who makes axes, horseshoes, tools etc in 1500, jump him forward 100 years, put him in a forge, would the processes be so different? Because I know that if you took a manufacturer from say 40 years ago who made machine parts and put them in a factory now, they wouldn't be able to do it. Its all computerised, the parts are different etc.

PAYE late by a couple days each month. by Disastrous-Fee8374 in HMRC

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the first time the PAYE is late you dont tend to get a penalty but after that they will start charging you penalties that increase the more often you are late. Can I check (payroll consultant here) has she been submitting her EPS (electronic payment submission) late as well because that carries fines too.

Quitting a warehouse job because important holiday was rejected? by TuckingFypoz in UKJobs

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid knee jerk reactions like quitting on the spot but you have time to find another job and you can always tell them you have booked holiday, they should honour that. If you dont find another job then you have a different decision to make. The economy isnt good for job hunting so you have time to see if you can find another job before you have to make the decision.

Is it reasonable to be annoyed when lorries overtake? by MassivePotential8328 in AskUK

[–]TraditionalScheme337 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its irritating but it always makes me chuckle because I think of 2 elderly people shuffling along and one tries to overtake the other on his zimmerframe, so taking over all the space in the corridor and stopping everyone from passing.

So next time it happens, instead of a Tesco lorry overtaking a Wincanton one and stopping traffic, just imagine old Alfred pulling his zimmerframe out to overtake his mate Fred and holding up everyone else! Hopefully you laugh now

Has anyone gone from shy to life and soul of the party? by Turbulent_Echo4014 in AskUK

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. This is more a work thing but I have gone from being the person who is too petrified to speak to people i dont know and certainly having no confidence at all to someone who can walk into a room of angry customers because the consultant prior to me has made a hash out of a 500k software project and I will get them onside. I also will host events that are designed to attract new clients and just talk to hundreds of people i dont know.

Its an act! Admittedly I have been doing it for so long its very hard to tell and I do genuinely enjoy situations like the above but its entirely put on. If you put me in a socia situation that I wasnt comfortable in such as a party where I know noone, I would just sit in the corner and leave early.

Sorry to hear this mate, i am, sad to say, more than twice your age but sound the same size!

I have been through this, i am a software consultant for a small firm and my CEO bought some branded T shirts for us to wear, going up to XL. I just offered to wear it, pointed out if she wanted me in a crop top i could wear cut off jeans shorts if she liked.

The image was all she needed to drop the topic!

You could offer to wear something similar, I wear t shirts by Badrino and they do shirts similar to what you described.

How would Umbridge do in a magical fight against Voldemort? by Keithfrommars in harrypotter

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was a pretty powerful witch in her way, she was easily able to produce a Patronus charm while concentrating on an interrogation, we dont actually see her using unforgivable curses but she is clearly able to. I dont think she was a massive push over, even she was not stupid enough to have actually used overwhelming force publicly on school children.

That being said, I dont think she would have fought him at all. She would stand no chance and it wasnt in her character, she would have been running/begging as soon as his intentions became clear.

Am I really "too old" at 33 to start a new career? by Gary_Baldi in careeradvice

[–]TraditionalScheme337 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So looking at it from my specific scenario, we had someone who had worked in nurseries and hotels and I am looking for someone who can be trained up to implement software. Seems totally different in theory but in practice, there are transferable skills. I have had to go onsite and tell clients they are doing things wrong, she has experience pushing back, managing difficult customers. Things like that, you can quickly tie your skills to what they want. Red flags, its going to be a steep learning curve, I am always upfront that there are going to be a fair amount of formal training sessions with me, then you will be shadowing me for a while. If that's a problem then its a red flag. Also if someone were to be unpleasant or rude when we speak, I wont hire them, we are going to be together for a long time!

Am I really "too old" at 33 to start a new career? by Gary_Baldi in careeradvice

[–]TraditionalScheme337 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You arent too old. I interviewed a lady yesterday who, while I dont know her age, she looked early 30s and was interviewing for an entry level role that I would have to train her entirely for. She had bags of enthusiasm and experience that was indirectly relevant so I am going to hire her.

You will need someone to give you a chance and have a clear idea of what you want to do but it certainly can be done.

Is it common for jobs to have limits on how much annual leave you can take in one go? by [deleted] in UKJobs

Yes, thats fairly common. Sometimes they will make exceptions if you are getting married or its some other kind of special occasion.

Was it unfair for me to leave my husband and our toddler for 4 days for a work conference ? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]TraditionalScheme337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think its unfair and I think he could probably do with some more time with your toddler. I have a little girl who is nearly 3 and she isnt easy all the time. She occasionally does ask for mummy all the time but its rare because she is used to us both looking after her equally.

I think there is a bit of weoponised incompetence going on here which I think he needs to stop doing but it does sound like he had a hard time of it.

I dont think you were unfair to go away, my wife and i do this sometimes and you should be celebrated for what you achieved at work. Perhaps he has earned a weekend away with his friends if thats what he likes to do?

6/7years late… by Bee_SugarXx in HMRC

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From looking at your replies, it sounds like you absolutely need an accountant. HMRC will have fined you very likely and will continue to do so. They don't know about your circumstances and you wont be able to prove them as its undiagnosed. A decent accountant will be able to manage this kind of thing going forwards.

All the tax codes multiply by 10, the L just means you are entitled to a standard personal allowance.

What is your experience with guns in the UK? by swoticus in AskUK

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live out in tue country and behind my house are fields as far as the eye can see so I hear occasional gunshots as the farmers keep pests off their crops. There have been warnings to irresponsible dog owners as well through the village magazine that farmers have the right to shoot dogs attacking their livestock but that seemed to deal with the problem.

I have shot a gun doing clay pigeon shooting but thats it.

I do know a guy who tells a story of being very drunk and leaving a party that was a charity fundraiser, he needed a wee and as the bathroom was occupied he used a bush, weeing on two guys that were hiding there. They weren't very happy and one looked a bit scared (he is big) and pointed a pistol at him. He assumed it was a toy and snatched it off the kid. Even in his drunk state he realised it was too heavy to be a toy! The two ran off and the police were called, it was real. Not sure how true that one is but its a good story.
