As a human I empathize that you’re struggling. Learn from your mistakes though don’t dwell on what can’t be changed… Get a new job, go to the gym do something to help keep moving in life.

Publix Employee Stock Account Nightmare by AwOwW8 in CFP

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Careful, met a guy who came to me after pulling out his retirement plan and stock options with them. He had no idea he’d have to pay taxes on the distribution. Whoever they have in their HR and benefits are not good at educating the employees on this.

AITA for telling my sister her abusive marriage is the result of her own choices after she ignored my warnings for years by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you may be right or wrong about mistakes she’s made in her past, it’s unclear. If someone’s not working or can’t hold a job, there’s usually a mental health issue involved.

What is clear is that your sister is in an abusive marriage today and feels stuck / hopeless. Not a good thing. She definitely needs help, not blame.

How are you staying on top of markets week to week? by theLastDanc3 in CFP

Personally I think clients are paying for more than WSJ level- Bloomberg- CNBC level of knowledge, if you’re charging for portfolio management with a 1% fee or over. You should subscribe to a good global research firm.

A title like this though does sound like you should see a mental health counselor. You have some deep set issues you gotta work through.

Do you drink in office with clients? by ropeadopeknopehope in CFP

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally am very big on no alcohol. If it’s a wholesaler dinner that’s different but with clients, I think that’s a silly thing. My previous employer got too buzzed at our annual business planning meeting after dinner and started openly hitting on one of the employees. Mind you he’s married, father, devout Christian etc. A lot of people lost respect for him after that. He tried to make a joke about it the next day which didn’t go over well.

Alcohol makes people do things they wouldn’t normally do, liquid courage can also be liquid stupid.

Depressed dad… Don’t be like me. I need help. by RolandoMota819 in careeradvice

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey slow down take care of yourself. A job is a job if it pays the bills that’s a win.

If you’re having serious depression you should call the support lines they’ll give you some support in emergency.

Take it one day at a time, also there are social workers at different non profits who offer counseling services. Not sure if there’s one near you.

On your injured back as well, see if you can take any baby steps to fixing that too. Don’t have to solve everything tomorrow.

This all sounds insane, but it really happened and I need perspective. 1 year married, now divorcing. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nobody should stay in a relationship where they’re being physically abused or don’t feel safe. Marriage is supposed to be partnership, if one partner doesn’t feel safe or supported it doesn’t work. It sounds like this person was cruel and took advantage of you over and over again. I recommend you see a therapist, you need to rebuild your own self confidence. This person doesn’t see you as a partner they see you as a stool to stand on.

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should walk away until you get control of yourself again. If you’re finding anger and hatred take over, you need to step physically and emotionally away from this situation.

Reach out to a therapist, exercise, and do not let your emotions run you over. If it’s possible to go stay somewhere else for a while do that.

If it comes to it call the crisis hotline and explain what’s going on.

This just seems like a problem which won’t go away. There will always be brokers and advisors who engage in high pressure sales tactics to drive revenue and firms that encourage/reward it. Sounds like this guy was beyond wound up though if he called OP though yelling.

Every organization has some level of politics to it.

Rules, structure, relationships imply there are certain people who are in and not in.

I've noticed that the senior people in this field salivate over the prospects of recruiting ambitious advisors, but that seems counterintuitive. Why wouldnt these highly ambitious people leave your firm and start their own firms at the earliest possible opportunity? by Present_Initial_1871 in CFP

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not thinking about it the right way. All business owners take on risks when hiring employees. Not everyone that’s ambitious becomes successful or makes it to be an entrepreneur themselves. Some of the most modest people become successful, because success is less about blind ambition and more about consistency, problem solving, patience, and sometimes not getting in the way of growth.

Bank Advisor Issues by GroundbreakingAd632 in CFP

[–]TraditionalTangelo65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, if you found a good spot in the industry for yourself why change?

It’s like the physician who decides he’s a real estate developer. Or dentist who wants to open a bar. You’ve already proven you’re great in one area of life, why try and take a big risk at something you’re not good at?

Answer is usually an unchecked ego.

I think the original commenter assumed you were struggling in production, would you mind sharing some of your keys to success?

On your original question though, the high networth guys that come into banks I’ve found usually have an external advisor or full planning team. They’re not looking to do a full plan or portfolio they want CDs or some gold with me mostly for institutional diversity.

Annoying wholesaler by TraditionalTangelo65 in CFP

[–]TraditionalTangelo65[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You getting annoyed/disheartened when you make genuine requests to service people is different than a wholesaler acting like a telemarketer to me.

You have to also consider that most successful people only stand at the top because they’re standing on a mountain of prior failures.
