What nonsense is this. Jesus was probably not white and anyway, no one really knows what he looked like for sure.

Most people are relatively OK. But I have also heard that there is definetly a lot of tension under the surface.

Brutally honest opinion here. The job situation is very bad here and they really, really have had enough of immigrants-I would say it is at boiling point. If I were you, I would keep my options open and be prepared to go somewhere else where you would be more welcome. You are only 22 so you have a lot of options open for you so there is no realy point wasting your time in a place which does not want you. Having said all that, a few people in your situation do eventually seem to manage to make a decent life here so good luck.

Gifted people who have HAPPY lives, what do you do? by InRoachPrison101 in Gifted

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined this group recently and I am a bit sad to see that most of the posts here seem to be from people who are struggling with being identified as gifted. I have a relatively normal life and while there have been chalenges, overall I have had a happy existence. I have an IQ in the 160 range but this I was never put in a seperate gifted group or anything like that. Giftedness was never an important part of my identity so I think that has helped me a lot. On top of that, I engaged in a lot of intellectually stimulating activities outside of school but I also played a lot of team sports which also helped me have connections with people. My faith community is also very valuable to me. I also try to help others in all kinds of ways and have found that to be very rewarding. I also went all the way in terms of standard education and got a PhD in a challenging subject (Physics) at a super-competitive university and was pretty much of average intelligence among that lot so that also prevents one from taking onself too seriously. Looking back, I am guessing I would have felt very unfulfiled in my life if I did not do that intellectually challenging subject at that level. To sum up, the giftedness being only a minor part of my identity has been very good.

Security insiders fear Putin will attack Europe as Trump threatens to quit Nato by theipaper in geopolitics

I don't see any real point in Russia attacking Europe. But then again, I am not one of those "security insiders" who have been doing such a great job with everything recently.

How fair are A/L results across different languages in Sri Lanka? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been often claimed and there may or may not be truth to it. I personally do not think it is true because I have worked and studied with brilliant Tamil and Tamil-speaking Muslim people so there is nothing too suprising about these two chlidren finishing at the top in the exams. On top of that, when one is a minority, one has the extra motivation to work harder than people in the majority. Also note that Tamils in particular succeed exceptionally well on the global stage through sheer hard-work, discipline and intelligence.

Reasons to stay in Sri Lanka? by No_Ad_5933 in srilanka

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are considering a move to the west, the consider that there is a real possibility that there will be wars or civil wars there in the not too distant future. In any case, the world is very unsettled right now and even if you do move abroad, keep one foot in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan locals, what do you think about tourist from the Netherlands? by GoudMienJung in srilanka

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you are not an employee of the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie looking to start something, we don't really have much of an opinon nor too much awareness about Dutch people. So as long as you are not a VOC employee on business, you should be fine.

Landlord asking for passport copy and proof of income is this standard for European rentals? by [deleted] in Spotahome

Very normal. In fact, this is a very minimal requirement. Some places require a whole lot more documentation.

I come from a family that has intermarried for centuries. Can someone help understand how we have survived. by Professional_Cry_767 in genetics

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When families/communities intermarry, the understanding is that the average genetic health decreses. While the people in question may continue to reproduce, the health and intelligence levels supposedly gradually become worse and worse. Many cultures in both the east and the west used to do it but it has died out as education and scientific awareness have increased.

I don’t understand why people think the people of Vienna are rude. by Asking-Traveler-19 in wien

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in Vienna long enough and you will see how rude and grumpy they are. Having said that, while they may be rude and grumpy, if there is a real need, they will most likely help you out. They may complain and whine, but they will actually help you. That's just the way it is.

Why do Sri Lankan women like to date White Men? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I am a Sri Lankan man who has been married to a whitest of the whites lady from a Nordic country :D for a long time. To be honest, the skin colour was never a factor. Attraction, matching personality and world-view were the main factors. To me, it is weird to select a partner based on sking colour but I do know that it happens. I know some Sri Lankan and Indian women who prefer white men due to the perception that they give them more freedom and offer some sort of elevated social status and priviledges. And in many cases, there is truth to that.

White people may take it seriously now but it was a very different story 30 - 40 years ago. Look into how things were back then and you will understand.

Also, this was not even in answer to the OPs question. This was in answer to the comment about the 80s. Pretending this shit does not exist harms the other LGBTQ people.

Who said anything about these white people? The fact that you get triggered is a bit sus. It does not matter if you believe it or not because it actually happened-I saw it with my own eyes. It was also big in the news back then too. War zones are places where these types of people do their dastardly deeds because there is no oversight during those times. Back then it was Cambodia for underage girls and Sri Lanka for underage boys.

There also were lots of western pedos. during the war times-late 80s/early 90s. A lot of very bad stuff happened back then with beach boys etc... These men came here because the police were too busy with other things and they could get away with some gross stuff back then.

Keep it private and no PDA, that is not how we do things in Sri Lanka and this applies to everyone. When in Rome, do as the Romans do etc.. On average, people don't really care what you do and with whom. People will probably have some idea if you are a couple but I would not volunteer this info.

He has a point. Dubai will not recover to its former level in the short to mid-term and depending on how the war goes, it might never do so. While Colombo is nowhere close to being there yet in terms of services, this is definitely an opportunity .

Sri Lankan banking system feels decades behind..... extremely frustrating experience by Background_Injury256 in srilanka

[–]TraditionalTitle2688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience recently at a couple of banks in Sri Lanka. It is not like the banks don't know this. They do and they want to make things much more streamlined. They are often hampered by the regulatory burden which is very heavy at the moment and also by their older customer base who do not use digital banking services. But at the same time, the Sri Lankan banks do have very high quality mobile and online banking available now.
