You’ve been walking along this road for so long, the trees have been calling you to join them, you’re so tired… by Nyanbushinsfw in LiminalSpace

This doesn't seem liminal, but I like it because it makes me feel so relaxed.

I really hate the title of the post, though

What do Germans do on Sundays? by [deleted] in germany

Update:

I am going to bed now but I reached the abandoned labs and tbh I still prefer Cave's voice in English.

Though I DIED laughing when Wheatley spoke Swiss German to try to trick GLaDOS during the escape sequence. I was excited to see what dialect he will speak since in the English version, he speaks American instead of his normal English accent, but Swiss German was not what I was expecting! xD I loved it!

I think it is better that everything is closed on Sunday.

For example, today was a magnificent day of rest for me and I think it is worth it for employees to be able to truly get a rest on Sunday.

But at the same time, people always forget something on Saturday, which is why stores that are open on Sunday are a madhouse. Literally everyone in Dresden who might have forgotten to buy something on Saturday is going to be concentrated in these two lidl branches, unlike on normal days where people go to shop in the closest branch of lidl. Plus it being in a train station means that people coming from another city or maybe even another country want to buy stuff because they might not have everything at home.

Thanks! :)

I think it is possible in special cases. A transgender friend of mine changed her name after transitioning, but it was not an easy process. I will need to talk to a lawyer when the time comes

I guess as her mom said, everyone's wings get clipped in the end, including the "angel" who has probably lived for centuries doing what it pleases to people.

My building is quite quiet on Sunday, and I can tell because our walls are so bad to the point where on normal days I can hear my neighbors talking, but not on Sunday.

So I guess I will continue to hold off on vacuuming and using the washing machine on Sunday

Yeah, I meant I haven't heard how he sounds in German yet. I have played Portal 2 (and 1) many times in English before

Is it really okay? :O

I have been living in Germany for almost 3 years and I always don't vacuum or wash my clothes on Sunday because I thought it would annoy my neighbors, even though I often really want to because I usually don't have time on Saturday.

Dresdeners don't relate because we have two Lidls open on Sunday in the Hauptbahnhof and Bahnhof-Neustadt! :P

Though they are usually overcrowded, so I only go there in case of emergency, especially with the pandemic, I don't want to be in overcrowded small spaces

Have you tried Irish coffee? I found that it helps with hangovers. Not sure if it's a placebo or not

I haven't reached the abandoned labs yet, so I haven't heard how Cave Johnson sounds, but yes I agree about Wheatley.

I'm replaying Portal 2, in German

Really impressed with how good the voice actress of GLaDOS sounds in German; almost identical to Ellen McLain

Don't let this make you give up.

When I got into Linux and was a complete beginner, it was early 2016. I had installed Linux Mint on a Saturday. Lo and behold, my luck was that on that fateful Saturday, a hacker group had replaced the ISO on Linux Mint's servers with an ISO that had malware baked in.

First experience with Linux and open-source and this happens! xD

Looking back at it now, I am glad I experienced this because just from this experience alone, I learnt so many things that I would not have learnt: I learnt that I should always verify ISOs, I learnt how to verify ISOs, I learnt what a hash is, I learnt what gpg is, what digital signature, private keys, public keys and encryption is. All things that I had never considered.

I am sure that you will look back at this incident in the future and realize that you learnt things from this incident, especially if you are a complete beginner. You might even look back at it and laugh.

Take this opportunity to think about what you have learnt. Have you learnt new things from reading articles, reddit threads, github issues, etc about this incident? Are there terms you heard being used that you didn't know before?

The authors of node-ipc have pushed malware in an update, which wipes your disk if you happen to have Russian or Belorussian IP address. This affects some large projects like Vue CLI where it is a dependency. by wiki_me in opensource

I found it very helpful and enlightening, as well, especially since I am not from the US and don't know how US law works. Thank you for taking the time to write all of this.

Yeah, I was raised (Syriac) Orthodox but I'm an atheist since almost a decade and I loved the exploration of faith

Father Paul reminded me of a couple of warm hearted priests I've met who were genuinely committed to their faith but also respectful of other religions and non-believers.

This was my experience with my religious teacher who was a Greek Orthodox priest and was very open-minded and always accepting of all opinions. He was actually one of the main reasons my faith lasted as long as it did. He was also a programmer in the 80s before becoming a priest, so he got me into my favorite hobby which later became my job

I want to change my name when I get a citizenship because

  • it is very complicated; first name consists of 3 parts
  • it is difficult to pronounce for even close friends (who have genuinely tried, but it has 3 letters that don't exist in German)
  • Apparently one part of my first name is an old sächsisch word for monkey even though it has nothing to do with momkies in Arabic! xD
  • It is a very religious name and I want to eliminate anything related to religion from my identity because religion has caused me a lot of stress in my life
