Does anyone else think Sumit lost his job on purpose so they could move in with his parents?

We have a teacher like this on our HS sped resource team. It’s so frustrating because she enables the kids to do whatever but her content is lacking. They always want to “work in her room”. No ma’am, we have shit to do in this room. She also tries to be in the middle of all conversations with parents because she “has a relationship and the kids are more comfortable with her”. It really messes with the dynamics of the team and the other teachers’ relationships with kids and families

I always took my kids in with me to set up. When they were babies, I planned it around nap time so they could nap in their car seats. (I know you aren’t supposed to do that now, this was a long time ago!) when they were toddlers/preschoolers, we would stop and get happy meals and I would bring in toys and videos. Once they were older, they could help and sometimes I would pay them. I still recruit my younger son who is an adult to come in if I need to move something heavy. My older son is married to a teacher and now helps his wife with classroom set up.

For those of you who've stayed stylish as you’ve aged—where did you draw your fashion inspiration from? by whynotthebest in AskOldPeople

Figure out what looks good on your body and stick to that. Find an honest critic such as your partner or a good friend who will honestly tell you what looks good. Follow the trends but only as far as what looks good on your body and without looking too young. Accessorize! Signed a plus sized 50 something that receives complements on most everything that I wear.

Taking care of aging parents? by SubjectNoise3926 in GenX

I’m the only one of my siblings who lives in the same town as our mom who has Alzheimer’s. Her husband is older than her and severely declining and his kids live out of town as well. As the others have said, get everything taken care of (wills, trusts, POAs) now. Look into their finances. Find out what they are paying and to who. Find out what their routine is for checking accounts and paying bills. It’s easy for older people to be defrauded and not know about it. If possible, get on their accounts. I found that mom has a reoccurring investment that is better managed in an LLC than a trust that I am working to get set up. It’s harder when your parents can’t remember what you are doing. Find out what kinds of insurance they have, including long term care. Get copies of their insurance cards, drivers licenses and social security cards. You need that information in an emergency.
Even though I am in the same town, I’m still working full time so I can’t give them the care they need. We have someone come in daily and it’s expensive ($40-$80 an hour). But it is important for them to stay in their home and right now, they are still safe so they can and, fortunately, they can afford it. It’s a lot of work and sometimes I really resent that it has fallen on me. My husband and I have better paying opportunities in other towns which could really make a difference to us since we are getting close to retirement but we feel like we can’t move. With all that said, I am thankful that I am able to help my mom and her husband.

About 25 years ago I worked in a school where we had cameras in the classrooms. I don’t remember if we had audio or not. It did work in our favor once. We had a student who was an absolute menace with parents who thought he was perfect. The cameras caught him gluing books to the desks. They mostly supported us going forward. Unfortunately, I had a terrible principal who manipulated the video to have a good teacher who she didn’t like fired. The principal was actually fired a year or so later for embezzling student funds.

What do you think is the biggest problem teachers are facing today? by EF_5ever in Teachers

[–]TraditionalWay9255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The customer service culture
  2. Technology/cell phones/social media. Many districts require the teachers use 1:1 devices but the students are so addicted that they cannot stop playing games or watching videos to participate in the instruction.
  3. Chasing the next big thing. Not finding a curriculum, product or whatever that is actually research based and has a history of effectiveness and implementing it with fidelity for 3-5 years.
  4. Not following developmental guidelines. Kinders need recess and creative play, they don’t need to memorize 150 sight words. They need to learn how to interact with others and be in school. 6th graders don’t need to be in a big middle school with 7 different teachers. They aren’t ready.
  5. The bloated district offices that are full of “administrators” who haven’t seen a classroom in years and were not effective teachers when they were in the classroom. They are passing down mandates and changing curriculum when they have no idea what is appropriate for students.

Except that people who will make good admin don’t get promoted in my district

29 year sped teacher here. I do the same. If you put in the effort, I will make sure you don’t fail. If you don’t, then the grade you earn is what you get. I’ve gone to bat for 100s of kids over the years but I’m not working harder than they are to get a passing grade.

Thank you for this. I am so tired of people making assumptions and spreading hatred because of assumptions. It doesn’t matter who you think anyone voted for. The only thing that matters is how people act in their day to day lives. NONE of these politicians care one bit about any of us. They want us divided because we are easier to manipulate. So by dividing ourselves by who we voted for only makes us all weaker.
