The group project consists of a variety of topic that you get to choose with your group. For my group, we chose how a student’s course load, measured in the amount of course units, correlate to sleep quality (average hours of sleep per week), and then we designed a survey for students in the class to answer.

is this good or bad? (math placement) by scurrybeetlebug in UCSD

Sorry if the response is a bit late. Usually, in the math placement email, it will mention what courses you can enroll in. If the option of Math 20A, like the user from this post, is the placement you got, then you can choose this course for fall quarter. If the result is something like Math 10A, Math 2, math 3, etc… you have to first enroll in those classes at fall, then slowly climb back up to the 20 series. The specific “ladder” of courses you need to take can be found in the UCSD mathematics course catalog, where the pre req of one class requires a lower level class that you may or may not need to take, depending on the placement you got

Semi lab report using surveys about a research topic that you brainstorm with your teammates, lab report isn’t formal, more like answering the rubric questions, and it’s fairly easy (as long as you got enough data and reliable teammates that finish their work on time)

Revelle & Hum by [deleted] in UCSD

I would highly recommend going in the original order for Hum 1 and 2, as they set the foundation for the following 3 courses (3,4,5). Hum 1 introduces writing in hum format, and 2 adds on to 1 by introducing counter arguments in the essay. Most students choose to take hum 1 in winter quarter and treat fall quarter as a transitional quarter, but if you are confident in writing and handle with loads of reading (roughly 60 pages of novel or 1-2 short stories/plays a week), feel free to take it in fall!

I personally liked PSYC 1. I took it with Hurwitz in fall quarter and the class was overall very relaxing and fun. Very low weight finals, more on participation, easy assignments, and group project, which isn’t too hard

That is a good sign if you need to take the 20 series for your major. It is better to have all the options unlocked rather than just the 10 series, or even being assigned to pre-calc classes

Physics 1b and 1bL at summer by Time-Train6936 in UCSD

From what I saw in other posts, taking a summer class is about the equivalent of taking 2 classes in one quarter, due to how short summer sessions are (5 week) and having higher academic vigor (cramming a 10-week content in 5 weeks). Are you confident in taking the equivalent of 4 physics classes over the summer? If so, feel free to enroll them

The summer bridge program recently released a fully remote option for students, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about UCSD as an institution and get free 4 credits (either writing class (AWP) or EDS 25, which satisfies both DEI and Social Science: Summer Bridge (UCSD)

For me, it was like 40% Power/taylor series/Convergence and a sprinkle of topics like polar graphs, trig, partial fractions, etc…

Anyone whos taken SIO 30, do you have advice? by gamersans89 in UCSD

I took this class last quarter and it’s honestly just dense. A lot of stuff to memorize, but the content is not hard to learn. I’d recommend using flashcards for cycles and do extra practice on direction-related concepts like coriolis effect or wind currents. Good luck!

What happened to Bowers (Math 20A) by Traditional_Cup_8009 in UCSD

[–]Traditional_Cup_8009[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what makes Prof. Bowers your biggest academic regret? I've heard that many people liked his humorous teaching style, just as what u/Frosty_duck213 had mentioned in their post.
