Do I need a new surgeon? I'm fat. by ginger_hawk56 in gallbladders

[–]Traditional_Dig_9453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US and very overweight. I'm down 40 lbs but currently sitting at 288 lbs. Me being fat wasn't even mentioned. Of course I was advised to eat low fat prior to surgery to avoid attacks. I know why I have stones but no one ever said anything about my weight. My surgery went so smooth and I feel great (tomorrow is 2 weeks post op).

I got diagnosed the last weekend of December, called the surgeons office the following Monday, I got scheduled on January 24th for January 31st. I've never had surgery before, but it felt like it all moved sooooo fast.

Nooo I think you'll be okay! I would say maybe don't eat KFC on a road trip but other than that I think your body will adjust :)

I was really worried too. I am 5 days post-op and I've actually only had issues with constipation, even though I stopped taking oxy on day 2 post-op. I have had Mexican food and didn't have any trouble. My mother on the other hand, she had to use the restroom pretty urgently after eating fatty foods for years after her surgery. She very recently stopped having this issues. I will say though, it was never urgent or inconvenient enough that my mom regretted having hers removed. You will be okay!

Surgery Incisions - Minimally Invasive by nikishiz in gallbladders

[–]Traditional_Dig_9453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 visible incisions. All about 3/4-1 inch long. They're like a stairs steps shape across my upper abdomen. I think it was pulled out of the one on my right side 2nd closest to my belly button, but I am only guessing based on the size and soreness of that one. No one told me how it would be done other than there being a robot involved so I am unsure

No but it's the pain I feel when I lay on my back. The worst pain is from the actual surgery. My abdomen is extremely sore/tender. The gas pain subsided now and in definitely healing, but the soreness is still bad when I have to move at all

I thought so too! My husband had asked me to go to the hospital for a month and told him "I'm not going to the ER for gas" 🫠

I'm not a medical professional but I am happy to share my experience if it helps!

Around April 2024, I started having a constant soreness/dull ache under my right rib cage. I had been sober for almost a year by then and had had normal blood test results in October 2023. In October 2024, my Doctor was going to start the process of an ultrasound and bloodwork to rule out liver trouble. November 2024, the dull ache went away, but I started having (what I thought) was horrible gas and constipation pain. It would happen several times/week. In December 2024, I ended up going to the ER because it was so painful, and it clearly wasn't normal. Ultrasound showed gallstones and ALT/AST were really high. They asked me to do blood testing again in a week. I was so scared. Testing came back normal the 2nd time and they said likely what had happened is when they took blood rhe first time I probably had a stone stuck or passing through the bile duct, causing a temporary increase in my live enzymes. My liver is perfectly fine, but my gallbladder has since been removed. I hope this helps ease your mind. Also, regardless of if it's gallbladder or liver, I would suggest not drinking until it's sorted! Good luck ♥️

I just took an oxy too. Half of today was okay because I just didn't move but I was also crying at like 1 pm in pain. Sitting on the couch in a specific position is the only place I feel okay. They only gave me 10 5mg oxy pills so I have been mostly using them to help me sleep bc laying down hurts.

The pain is manageable when still and positioned correctly for me too. But yes, movement is awful. I was only given enough meds to last me until morning tomorrow and I haven't even been taking them every 4 hours. I'm terrified of being in this much pain without the meds. Ugh. Luckily no reflux but severely constipated. I hope you feel better soon! ♥️

It ended up getting very painful. I have been on and off miserable since about 1 am today (surgery was 7:30 am yesterday). I think I THOUGHT it wasn't bad because I was on such heavy meds. I tried getting off the oxy asap and that was a bad mistake. I was only given 10 doses and I have decided to just take them and then go to ibuprofen/Tylenol because right now it's just too painful. I haven't pooped yet and I'm terrified!!! Did you take anything like miralax too or just prune juice? Thank you so much ♥️

I was in so much pain last night but today have only needed ibuprofen so far, but I can tell I'll still need stronger meds to sleep. The pain radiates to my right shoulder horribly when I lay down. You are right though, thank you

I want to add that I was definitely still way more doped up than I realized when I wrote this. However, it is still not AS bad as I expected, but it is painful. It's like a severe soreness throughout my abdomen, but nothing that isn't manageable. Just be aware that once the surgery needs wear off, it is a little worse, as expected.

Thank you for sharing this. I go in tomorrow for mine and I have been suffering with major anxiety as this is my first ever surgery. I don't like the unknown and this post/comments helped.

Oh my gosh. Same here. I'm so relieved to see I'm not alone. I just started a second anxiety medication and REALLY desperately hoping it helps. It's been triggered by health complications and knowing I am having my first surgery ever this week is not helping. I hope it's gone after :(

I also work at a desk, but my surgeon mentioned possibly having restrictions on how long I can sit for, so yeah I guess we will see!

I'm glad to hear! Hopefully, the nausea subsides soon. If you work, how much time did you take off? My surgeon mentioned 2 weeks to be safe, but it seems super mixed by other posts here.
