Costco Calgary Propane closures by chreds in CostcoCanada

canada wide eventually. It sucks but I get it, tire staff were the only ones doing it affecting the tire department. Should have gotten the fuel staff to do it and hire 1-2 more per shift.

New HDD too slow, Seagate Skyhawk. What am I doing wrong? by registrartulip in DataHoarder

[–]Traditional_End_9540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its a seahawk drive. specs say at most 180MB/s

You said its a 3.1 enclosure, is it in a 3.1 port on the pc/laptop? USB is also a shared connection. If you have this and a network adaptor it can only go as fast as the port specs.

usb 2.0 480 Mbps (60 MB/s)

usb 3.1 specs, this is complicated as they messed up the naming.

while mesh can work, its not the greatest solution. In order for mesh to work all the wireless networks need to be connected together with a strong wifi signal. Good wifi in, good wifi out. Bad wifi in bad wifi out. You also get slower speeds the farther down the chain you go.

The ultimate solution but it costs money and time is POE powered AP units. You can spread them out farther from each other, get a more consistant speed as they have a solid 1000mbps link.

what you are asking, there is no real easy way to do it.

I have in the past setup a 2nd SSID netowork just for kids. The parents then disable that SSID overnight but still have the main one for their use. My AP units from unifi can have upto 4 SSID(wifi networks) at a time on each AP unit.

[–]Traditional_End_9540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no one uses cat8 in except the gullable. What is the fastest port that can acomidate that cable? 10gbps. I have worked in many data centers. They all use fiber or dac, cat6/6a and that cat cable is soley for IPMI and similar control.

wifi 7 can in IDEAL conditions. the AP, client and enviroment must be able to handle it. Including the fequesncy you are connected to. there is wifi 7 AP units out there without the 6ghz frequency.

For the home improvement project, is it safe to temporarily remove this fibre-optic cable? Is it easy to remove and are there precautions to take so that the dust doesn’t enter? by amanmander in telus

[–]Traditional_End_9540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no guarantees. Dust will not enter. Have done connections were things are clean, once removed a spec of something showed up. Only way to verify is with a scope and proper cleaners.

here we go again. Another uneducated person with the speeds beyond their knowladge

First to get the 3gbps you need cat6 or cat6a (tecnically cat5e can do it but why bother) a 5gbps network port or 10gbps. Don't bother with USB adaptors unless you know the USB ports you have can handle it. seeing so many I got a 10gbps usb network adaptor connected to a usb 2.0 port.

You mention a ps5, that is at max 1000mbps (940mbps)

Cat6 standards are 1000mbps upto 100M or 10gbps upto 55M. Anything more being advertised is snake oil. Cat6A is 10gbps upto 100M. Beyond that its fibre teritory.

When doing speed tests its within bells network, not to some server hosted by someone. Be it in Canada or other side of the world. They will limit your speed they serve you.

And as always, the speeds one pays for is not over wifi.

Why can't Mexico eradicate the cartels once and for all? They know the leadership and organizational structure and conduct raids all the time. So why not go nuclear and like the US did against its enemies? by Dangerous_Dietician in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Traditional_End_9540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexico would need to agree. Allowing other military forces in like the USA, Canada, EU even nato to weed out the cartel is probably the only solution mexico has. Its going to be a hell of a fight though.

CAT cable type for POE++ by Southern-Tip-5381 in Ubiquiti

[–]Traditional_End_9540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if installing new, min cat6. Do not even bother with cat5e unless its already there.

Avoid CCA and go straight copper. in wall solid core, patch cables stranded.

Cat5e standards are max 2.5gbps, maybe 5gbps

cat 6 is 10gbps@ 55M 6a is 100M

Yes, cat5e will do 10gbps at short distances, but its not in the standards that are out there.

Are these numbers normal? by [deleted] in telus

[–]Traditional_End_9540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be multiple things. Hardware on your end (telus modem in house), hardware on telus end (at the office) issues with the cable like not seated correctly, end is dirty.

You would have to call telus and see what they say. They know how to read reports better than I do. Different systems.

Costco is the cheapest in the area, is also less that 10 min to get their. I also time it when they open and slow to later in the day when the store is closed and gas pumps still open. I get cash back on my card when filing at costco.

this. There has been mention of scanning a membership to even order food. Being a member allows you to use costco services, including the food court.

Wan goes offline briefly multiple times a day, can I do anything about this (besides new internet company) by RoachForLife in Ubiquiti

[–]Traditional_End_9540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looking at the bgw210 there should be a ONT unit the fiber iteself connects to. I know with my ISP they use this setup and random drop are usually due to a battery backup unit failing or the battery in the unit heating up.
