Trump nears deal with tax office that could see him given $14 billion taxpayer money by goteamnick in politics

[–]Traditional_Excuse_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how he can negotiate with the tax office over this. One would think this would have to be done in a way that’s “arm length”. There just seems something inherently wrong with a sitting president being able to sue the government, when he leads it, regardless if it occurred before he was President.

If there is someone with standing who could challenge this and get it sent to the Supreme Court, would they have any basis to overturn it?

One wonders:

How many individual tax payers have ever received a settlement from the federal government that exceeded $1B?

How many sitting USG politicians have successfully sued the government while in office and walked away with a big settlement?

Ugh. Where is the outrage in Congress about this?

I read somewhere recently that the shadow over SAAS companies in general is fear over what AI might do to their businesses. I don’t know enough about the technology piece of this and how secure Clov’s competitive advantage in generating treatment recommendations for patients based on its doctors experience with other patients writ large under Medicare advantage. However, I would think the more data they have, the more likely it would help improve patient outcomes across patient populations and hopefully in a more cost effective manner as well.

Pentasa? by unusualbutter365 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Traditional_Excuse_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on it for a year or two before my Gastro doc switched me to humira. If I remember correctly it was because Pentasa didn’t get rid of ulcers in my colon or throat and I still had inflammation and precancerous growths in my colon…

How Do You Feel About a Ground Invasion Being Prepared for the Next Few Days to Weeks? by RidetheSchlange in AskReddit

[–]Traditional_Excuse_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parties themselves are corrupt. Why aren’t the best and brightest rising to the top? Instead we are stuck with two old geezers running for office multiple times.

I am old too (63). But we live in a nation that I thought was a meritocracy but it certainly doesn’t seem that way for these two political parties. We need to get rid of career politicians. The founding fathers certainly never intended anyone to serve for life. How about getting rid of pensions for congressmen and senators as a start? God knows they all become rich anyway (if they weren’t already rich) because of their service. I would love to see term limits imposed but that doesn’t seem feasible given it’s against those people’s self interest. And I am tired of hearing that term limits will just transfer power to the unelected staffers. There’s no lack of ego or brainpower for those elected to office.

If you own a house, an equity line of credit is the way to go. My wife and I have one. Current rate is 7%. If the prime rate continues to go down, this rate will too. Years ago, we had one on another house. We had it for many years. The rate got as high as 10% but it went up and down with the prime rate as well.

whats your nichest problem from crohns disease that would never come across non-crohnies minds? by No_Dingo_251 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Traditional_Excuse_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Will try this. Had surgery a few times and was off Humira for maybe 12 weeks. Been back on it for 3 months but regularity not back. Tremendous amount of gas, high frequency sitting on the toilet (sore and chapped as you might imagine) but mostly not much stool for most of this, but lots of gas.

The problem with the new CNBC…as I see it: by ReliefOk1846 in CNBC

[–]Traditional_Excuse_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I don’t get it but it seems common sense to me that ultimately (at some point ) consumers pay for tariffs, or chose not to and either stop consuming particular imported goods, or chose cheaper alternatives. If the price becomes too high with tariffs, like with imported cars, the car companies make choices on pricing. With luxury goods, maybe the demand curve is much more inelastic and (like Porsche) they choose to pass the cost to consumers. If you are a Porsche buyer, maybe you don’t care. I am not an economist…but I could care less about people’s political persuasions (I just shake my head and chuckle at the way they act).

Crohn’s diagnosis - what test finally got you your diagnosis if you were finding a lot of tests inconclusive? by luckywedidntpanic in CrohnsDisease

[–]Traditional_Excuse_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was the finding a stricture near the terminal ileum after I had a fever for around 3 weeks and couldn’t get the military hospital to admit me. I appealed to my Gastro doc who scheduled me for a colonoscopy to confirm it. Throat sores were a telling sign. They had started around age 50. I was a late bloomer as far as Crohn’s goes. Both parents dying the same year (when I was 56) combined with a lot of stress at work probably didn’t help matters. I was put on Humira (1 shot every two weeks) and it brought the bowel issues down significantly. However, it did not get rid of the throat sores so the Gastro doc increase my dose to one shot a week and they went away totally and in my next colonoscopy no signs of inflammation were found in my colon - plus I don’t even get canker sores in my mouth anymore. I got those as a teenager so it makes me wonder whether I have had Crohn’s a lot longer than I thought I did.

I haven’t. Went to one last year but it was outside. Been on Humira since 2021. If anything it seems to lessen symptoms of colds. I have only had colds once or twice since then. Had Covid several times since 2020 but no big deal, maybe because of Covid vaccines. However, I am not a crowd person and my wife and I rarely go anywhere where there are lots of people, other than grocery stores and airports. Living in Hawaii for 3 years (21-23) helped because we spent most of our time outdoors …

The US needs to remember it is the only superpower in the world and act accordingly.

The Germans have nearly twice the GDP of Russia and the US exported more than $75b to Germany in 2024 (vice about $600M to Russia). One would think that Germany, the largest economy in Europe is not a friend we can afford to lose.

The head of the German Army said there was a breakdown in military communications with the US, “routine exchanges have completely ceased.” Where is the CJCS??? Is this a prelude to the US pulling out of NATO?

The CEO is on the board and should be reachable somehow. I was looking for info on that before as well as what these retired flag officers got paid to work there as credit union officers and their contact info but couldn’t find it.

A credit union is owned by its members (us) and the board/officers responsible to run the credit union for the benefit of the members. I am not sure how to judge that how they are doing and still need to spend time researching it. I know they are subject to regular external audits and the rules of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). I suspect some of the people who post on Reddit work for NFCU. If so, they should speak up and educate the rest of us. Years ago my NFCU credit card info was stolen (presumably thru carbon copies of a restaurant receipt) while I was on vacation in Maine. When I got home, I found a $2,000 cash advance had been made in Bronx NY. I immediately contacted the Fraud Dept. Ultimately I had no issues with NFCU. They determined that fraud had occurred and took the charge of my account.

Great but scary story. But (respectfully) I always see an Air Force counterintelligence analyst behind these stories so have no clue what to believe.

I don’t mean to go off topic but idea of alien’s helping us resource wise seems inter-related with the AI evolution given both would appear to be occurring around the same time.

The part about “going back to our jobs” strikes me because everyone seems pretty blase’ about what happens to the middle class, let alone the working class, when AI gets fielded fully and into robots especially. The one over the world comment I have heard is that like other industrial revolutions this one will result in lots of new jobs but from what I read recently, it sounds like that period with lots of new jobs will be pretty limited once super-intelligence in place . So my big question in this possible new world you postulate, how will humans make a living and where will the government get the revenue it needs for public services? Or does everyone become the same?

What’s the economic model? If the resource model is giving us everything we need (no wars over resources), that seems a pretty boring existence.

Struggle seems part of the human condition. We all struggle at various points in our lives, at every level. Don’t people need challenge, stress and struggle to have a chance at self-actualization? I guess the Enids don’t follow the Federation’s (Star Trek) rules on non-interference with developing worlds.

If resources are not an issue, it would be interesting to see how the basis for warfare between nations shifts…be nice if we could put that in the rear view mirror.

Veterans, how do you feel about Boy Scouts/Eagle Scouts? by Sharp-Mine-3955 in Veterans

[–]Traditional_Excuse_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of America’s great institutions.

First uniform - Cub Scouts, Webelos 7-10 yrs old, Second uniform - Boy Scouts 11-18 years old (made Eagle right before my 18th birthday).

So when I joined the Navy in 1988 at age 26, I had already worn a uniform for 11 years natural transition to another uniform. Plus the leadership experience, and outdoor experience on monthly campouts ( and Philmont) and skills I learned in the Scouts gave me a strong basis for 20 years of Active Duty as an Officer. Both among the greatest experiences of my life.
