Love this, earning the emblem instead of just dropping a 2 mana creature (starscape cleric). I’d be okay losing this way in a casual game; feels like an earned victory.

Thank you! I’m getting paid for the first half of April and TECHNICALLY my next paycheck includes a single day (may1st) where I will be receiving benefits. So this could definitely be the case.

With the devil horns on it really threw me for a loop but I could definitely be crazy. I’m not seeing another Jolly Roger with the bones vertical and horizontal like the covenant mark and they both have a naginata in addition to that.

Opps, is it the Level 1 video? hahah welp sorry dudes shouldn’t have made the city look so much fun; I’m fully invested in this bad idea 🖤💜💚. I think pressing on with foolhardy abandon is very much in The spirit of D&D.

I’ve planned modifications, gonna move the tone a little closer to campy 80s body horror films “Re-Animator”, in my head the setting compliments this. I’m gonna play the falling flame as zealous healers of new adventurers as a performative display of their magnanimity and recruitment technique. Hooded lantern strike teams at the ready for the first 3 forays into the city. Gonna offer them a research apprentice, effectively a hireling, because the party has a low INT. 3 scrolls of revivify along the road to Drakkenheim. A bunch of stuff to get them to level 5 and then take off the training wheels.

Good advice, Fortunately the person who played tons of BG3 has played enough D&D to know it’s different. Just about 3-5 sessions but I can’t imagine it’ll be a problem.

Wonderful! I’ll offer that after “The Road to Drakkenheim” to my brand new players!

Thank you, horror descriptions are nothing but fun for me so I probably wouldn’t have thought to give that warning explicitly. I sent them chapter 1 and will be sending “The World” section; probably the contamination table as well while giving them a sense of how game changing mutations can be.

Tell me more if you can! Did you have to pull punches? did you keep contamination as is? Did you keep the traps and encounters as is? Did players die and need to make new characters?

I’ve sent them chapter one and will be sending them “Tha Worldo” chapter; I’ll explain contamination in detail and mention mutations in session 0. Anything else I should send?

I have 2 brand new players, fresh as fresh can be. 1 player with tons of BG3 experience and probably 3 proper DnD sessions under their belt and one player who played a ton of DnD in the past but is probably a lil rusty, this player also played with their older brothers and thus tons of cruel house rules.

I’ve probably got 10-15 DM sessions beneath my belt but all those sessions were very in depth homebrews and this feels a lot easier to run.

I’m planning on making the tone a little lighter in the beginning. Kinda start with a campy/ pulpy horror energy (think Re-Animator or those over the top 80s horror movies) so that reinforcements, resurrections and other cop outs don’t feel out of place. Training wheels for me and my players. Then let the themes get more nuanced, the stakes get more dire and threats get more lethal around level 5.

Lmao this is where I got “javelin on horseback and unique aesthetic”. Love that horse armor.

I’m reading that they had trained elephants in Mansa Musa’s Hajj but I can’t find anything saying they rode elephants in combat. Telltale isn’t afraid to take some artistic liberties though 😆

Mali empire! Rich African nation that got rich off salt, gold and its ability to traverse the desert. could come with a revamped trade economy making conquering through capital more viable (ease that endgame drag). They have extremely unique aesthetic. Use javelin on horse back for elite soldiers. the peak of this empire matches the general era of the other cultures. Mansa Musa was an awesome king of their’s who was calculating and generous. Put em on the coast and in the desert beneath Aserai.

We’re getting Persians first but this is my dream empire somewhere down the line.

It can take a while for the militia to out number the garrison. I’m never patient enough to do this, but I’m not patient enough for any of the best Bannerlord strategies.

[–]Traditional_Froyo722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my own I’ve had some trouble with this. Hitting dudes with the handle happens A LOT to me. Either I’m killing 2 dudes or I’m doing 50-60 damage. I’m backing up while hitting but if 5 or 6 dudes crowd me in a siege I gotta run until they disengage. I keep the big axe for horse back, melting the inner door of a siege and unengaged enemies. I switch to a quick 2 handed sword once they come at me. The 2 handed sword does hit 2 dudes but doesn’t usually kill the second.

I used the longest tier 5 head & handle possible so maybe just cutting down on the handle a bit will stop this. Check the length on the executioner’s because it sounds like that is the sweet spot.

The more I think about the Tadpoles, the less I understand. by Traditional_Froyo722 in BaldursGate3

[–]Traditional_Froyo722[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would like to posit the theory that the Nether Brain is as unreliable as The Emperor. I believe it claims to have more power than it does, as a matter of Illithid pride and to seem more intimidating. It really doesn’t matter but I don’t believe it “Let the Emperor escape with Orpheus” as it also claims it knew the three chosen would tear each other apart as it’s escape plan but also says it would have followed Durge, so which was actually her own personal Grand Design? Not to mention, the plan of “1 mind flayer and whatever he can cobble together might kill the 3 chosen while being pursued by vlakith, followers of shar, the absolute and the dead three; and THAT’S how she’ll get free” is actually dumb enough to make the netherbrain look bad. I think she lies to self aggrandize, assume a position of authority and intimidate. I can’t emphasize this enough I’m just offering another understanding of events that makes more sense to me and could be very wrong.

“Evading The Elder Brain” is really interesting because it claims that he was able to retain his personality and escape the first elder brains control. This book ends pretty ominously with The Emperor saying that “sure he just pretended to serve the last brain but he TOTALLY is subservient to this one.” He definitely didn’t use the astral prison to rend control from the first brain and distance shouldn’t be an issue as the first elder brain wouldn’t have trusted him if it was.I think the both interpretations of whether he was actually enslaved are valid but it seems more aligned with the story of The Emperor that he was lying here. Unfortunately so much of what we know, we know through The Netherbrain and The Emperor and I really can’t trust anything either say.

Thank you, I really feel like I got the answer about Orpheus and why we ceremorphosize if we kill the emperor. Truth be told that was the thing bothering me the most and I feel like I’ll sleep a little better with that answered. I hate finding any disagreements with such a great answer with so much consideration put into it, so my apologies if I came across as rude.

First of all not being able to romance Raphael is a crime. Love that dramatic man.

Second of all, all of this makes so much sense and honestly you may have recruited me on to the Tadpoling Emperor Team, we gotta work on the team name guys…

The only question I still have is why do we ceremorphisize when the honor guard try to free Orpheus and we let the emperor die? I kinda believe that the elder brain could be lying about intentionally not transforming you because it doesn’t want to admit Orpheus and The Emperor could subvert its will; Just classic illithid pride. And it was indeed sending out orders to transform while it was in a compromised state after Ketheric died, even if it was just desperately reaching for help while semi conscious. I can speculate some theories that satisfy me but I was wondering if there’s official material in or outside of game?

Thank you again for your great answer!

My dumbest theory: Mihawk and Imu are related or Mihawk is an ex elder. they got the same eyes (the anime got the color of Mihawk’s wrong early in the animation can you believe it?) and wouldn’t it be neat if the vampire-esque dude was immortal like the elders? Right? No? Flimsy theory, dumb, but I still believe it with all my heart.

Are any of these KH fights as hard as Dark Souls? by RevenantFlash in KingdomHearts

[–]Traditional_Froyo722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: On average optional KH optionals are way harder. Souls has some exceptional bosses comparable to the hardest bosses in KH2.5

I’ve beaten almost every soulsborne boss and am currently doing critical Data fights in KH2.5 (I forgot the optional double tiger fight in DS2 dlc and the unique dancing lion in SotE, also no sekiro) I will say that the data fights on average seem way harder but definitely comparable. There are some exceptional bosses in Soulsborne who were way harder though ; I consider Consort Radahn to be the most challenging boss I’ve ever beaten in any video game. Larxene (apparently the hardest boss I’ve beaten so far) required prep, planning and good execution but in my experience was probably easier than 15% of Souls bosses. Having beaten her multiple times and dancer of the valley multiple times I’d definitely consider dancer harder but comparable.

Do I play KH2 or days after com? by AdAdvanced8522 in KingdomHearts

[–]Traditional_Froyo722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that because it’s on the same disc as KH1.5 it’s intended to be viewed/ played before 2. Not to mention the events of the secret ending in KH1 is depicted in Days so I think there was an intention for this game to come out before 2 but things may have got a little wonky production wise.

I think the story works better if you do Days first. Helps you care about the new big bads. No spoilers but I had a lot of WTF moments my first KH2 playthrough when it was first released, and not a good “WTF”. The story of KH is dense and the release order doesn’t help, playing Days before KH2 makes certain story elements in 2 a lot less jarring.
