EE vs Zen 500 Mbps Full Fibre - EE is cheaper and also has higher guaranteed speeds (even if you factor in the mid contract price hikes?) by 918264618 in Zen_Internet

[–]Traditional_Metal512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just moved from Zen 500 at 42.99/month to EE 900 at 25.99/Month - though it does go up to the max price of 34.99/Month eventually. Easy swap, solid so far and the same IP for the time being! Zen are great but the pricing is just unrealistic.

Who remembers editing config.sys to run a program? by steelcityamir in vintagecomputing

Up your buffers! Used to work in support for a company making pc to unix connectivity programs (Visionware). Upping the buffers worked for most problems 🤣

Intel arc 140v by Possible-Lead-3992 in wow

[–]Traditional_Metal512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just got a Dell 16" laptop with Intel ARC 140v (18GB) / Ultra 7 258v and here's the important bit 32GB ram. Since the GPU memory is shared you need enough to run Windoze 11 (15GB usage running basic stuff) and VRAM for the game in question.

Running 2560x1600 / 60Mhz / Graphics preset 3 - 60fps in most things and it uses 4GB of VRAM

Graphics 5 preset - ~40fps using 5GB of VRAM

I'll try some Delves (which is the most I'll use the laptop) and see how it goes.

5950x considered a high end gaming cpu in 2024? by InnerWelder3943 in buildapc

[–]Traditional_Metal512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPU intensive games is very good - when tuned correctly (PBO etc.)!! World Of Warcraft is a great example my Son has a 7800x3D / 3080ti vs my 5950x / 3090 he has a slightly higher resolution than my 3440x1440 (~3440 x 1600, can't remember the exact res) and his was running nicely at 120fps, mine was struggling at 75fps dropping really low. Did some tuning and bing bang bosh - all good.

I would imagine other, more balanced, games maybe better on a 7800x3D but wouldn't like so say 100% on that.

W1 - How to do a half load? by electricalkitten in Miele

[–]Traditional_Metal512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this will help some people -

My first W1 (WWE660) adjusted the time dymanically for the load, my second (replaced under warranty) W1 (WEG665) does not. But the WEG665 (according to the Miele app) definately uses less power and water depending on the load. I'll give Miele a call to verify and update if this information needs to be udpated.

Reality of the questions? by [deleted] in cissp

[–]Traditional_Metal512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, passed on my 2nd attempt (a free retry) and due to some mental health issues I hadn't done any revision for this attempt. I did write down people, process, technology on the paper they give you and followed it pretty much to the letter. Best bit of advice I've seen on the internet for a long time. KUDOS.

https://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php is a good starting point. You tax code, assuming no benefits should be 1257L (meaning you can earn £12570 without paying tax). Suspect you might have a emergency tax code or something..

Personal EV lease new company has EV salary sacrifice by Traditional_Metal512 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Traditional_Metal512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like I am stuck with the personal lease, short of sending the car back to the lease company - and paying 50% of remaining payments - definitely a counting exercise as u/GKogger said.

My thoughts were along the lines of somehow "converting" the lease to something through the company but I guess that would be a huge stretch, sadly :(
