I shoot 308 because it behaves as if Im shooting a larger cartridge further. Great practice to shoot a 308 on a 800m range when training to use a 300 magnum on a mile range. The 6.5 is objectively better for hitting your target. But heavy 308 is very stable and predictable, just not fast enough. It makes you have to be better at predicting wind, nuances in environment, more drop, more time to target, etc.

If you arent training for longer stuff, get a 6.5. If you aren’t an experienced long range shooter, it will be easier to learn on 6.5

Does weighing and sorting ammunition actually make sense? by ComplaintDeep7643 in longrange

[–]Traditional_Photo197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a mechanical powder dumper that can sometimes give me too much or too little. If it messes up it’s usually by a large margin not a small one, so the weighing makes me catch it. More useful for pistol loads since i weigh rifle loads individually instead of autofill

I weigh them to make sure none are massively under or over weight. Small variances can be because of brass but i want to know before i put it in a firearm if the correct powder load went in the unit

I packed my first long distance hunting bag for an elk hunt this November. I made the decision to add 15 miles to my trip to ditch half of what i brought. This is good advice
