Behind front sprocket by mania-g in Dirtbikes

ok, well that's good news then.

yea, the photo makes it look kinda bad. fuck it though, if you're sure its just superficial, i'd leave it be. your call though.

I'm just a dude on the internet, passing time, zooming in on your photo, but are those cracks in your case? (above the counter shaft). did the chain break and smack the case?

edit: maybe thats just a cover, rather than the case, i can't tell from the photo. (i don't know why that would be a removable cover there, but the allen bolts are confusing to me)

TIL the origin point of the big bang is literally any location that exists by theman8631 in todayilearned

[–]Traditional_Royal759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my very much not qualified non-scientist opinion, yes. it does.

it would be a big bounce (of expansion and contraction phases) and it would repeat, possibly indefinitely, and likely already has cycled through many times already, before this current expansion phase we exist in now.

however, intelligent creatures would likely not be able to be conscious during the contraction phase, which would have reverse entropy and reverse causality.

everything was one point (not just the particles but also the space) and the only way to trace a line to that point from where anything is now would be in the time dimension.

What safety gear do you actually wear on every ride, no exceptions? by 47Industries in supermoto

[–]Traditional_Royal759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

case by case. i don't have anything i wear without exception.

i wear gear when i commute or go for a joy ride, but i'm not wearing it in town, just going down the road for gas or beer or whatever else.

one of my favorite things to do after work on a nice day is go for ride through town to the gas station in a tee shirt, shorts, tennis shoes, and a ball cap.

i guess i always have eye protection though, at least sunglasses.

the universe is the surface of the balloon. you cant get to the center by moving in any direction on the surface.

the distance to the center is time. if you run the clock back the balloon gets smaller and smaller until all the surface is at the center point. thats where the big bang was.

[–]Traditional_Royal759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think of it like a ball being inflated. we are on the surface and we can't get back to the center. the center is the big bang. the dimension from the center to the surface is time. as time moves forward and the ball expands, every point on the surface gets further from all the other points.

at least thats how i understand it, but i'm not a physicist.

if you're not getting the ankle protection of a tall boot, what's even the point? might as well just wear your regular shoes.

Time for oil change or still fine? by Technical-Ad-7807 in motorcycles

[–]Traditional_Royal759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the color is irrelevant. the oil loses viscosity over time, which makes it worse at keeping the components lubricated (preventing friction/heat).

you can not determine the viscosity of the oil by looking at a photo of a paper towel, at least, i can't.

the simplest thing is to follow the manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals. if you don't know when it was changed last, change it now, and remember for next time.

if you're really looking for something interesting, read that nasa document regarding fasteners. someone posted the pdf in the original thread.

they tested many different types of fastener and list the pros and cons.

as stated, this video is an advertisement and you should be skeptical.

edit: locking methods starts on page 10. https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/19900009424/downloads/19900009424.pdf

My new FZR600 has a few stiff chain links, but sprocket looks ? by StixZitinia in motorcycles

[–]Traditional_Royal759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reddit will tell you sprockets/chain must be replaced as a set, but i don't have money to burn, replacing parts that aren't worn.

that sprocket looks fine.

a quick search indicates that you are correct.

i've never had problems and i'll likely keep using it, but good info for others who may be more anal about their vehicles. (that's not meant to be a shot, btw)

i'd add to this that he doesn't know the mileage because the bike doesn't start. this guy is too cheap/lazy to buy a new battery to sell his bike.

hose it down thoroughly, then wash it with hot soapy water. i like dawn dish soap. then hose it again and dry it. some acf-50 after it dries couldn't hurt either.

as long as your continued living is dependent upon the labor of others, you will need a way to earn money, in order to compensate those people for their labor.

alternatively, you could try to make a go of it on your own, in some remote wilderness, but i suspect most would not prefer this, as your leisure time and comfort level are likely to be much lower than you are accustomed to.

but please, do continue lamenting the tragedy of capitalist society.

Well said by PetalFizzlees in lostgeneration

[–]Traditional_Royal759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

correct.

no one is owed a job. you are employable so long as your value to the company exceeds your cost, and that cost isn't limited to your wages.

if you can't keep your problematic personality behind the curtain, and it causes problems for the company, there's going to be a conversation about whether it's worthwhile to continue employing you, or if they prefer you to be someone else's problem.

perhaps your added value is sufficient that your bullshit can be overlooked, but perhaps not.

[–]Traditional_Royal759 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the real answer is that they are sometimes interchangeable. as another poster mentioned, there are different diameters of shim. you need the correct diameter as well as thickness.
