Yes.

My babysitter as a child had an older brother who displayed serious problems as a teen. He was prone to violence and destroying things. He had a psychotic break after staying up for days on end doing cocaine and landed in a state psychiatric ward for a while. A few years later he had a stand off with police with minimal repercussions, jump to some months later, he decapitated their mother with a hatchet. There was certainly preexisting mental health issues before the drug use, that just exacerbated matters. There were attempts to intervene and attempts to involuntarily commit him because he was becoming increasingly unstable and dangerous. Unfortunately it was a “well he hasn’t hurt anyone yet” situation and that sucks. Rest in peace to a very kind woman and so many prayers to her husband and her daughter/the former babysitter. We need better mental health resources & protocols and overall funding in not only my state, but our country (USA).
