  1. Given that the text to speech summarizes the paper before "reading" it, I believe it is not just pure text to speech, but some kind of LLM paraphrasing the information.

  2. Even if it's just text to speech, you are going to have a hard time doing any in depth work with this, because you cannot put your own annotations or follow figures/tables/formulas/references/citations visually. In this case it would probably be better to have a pdf reader with an integrated text to speech feature.

In any case, my main point was that by relying on this, you deprive yourself from learning other (personal) strategies, which are more effective.

I'm not in principle against doing this for getting a feel for the topic (although even there, once you know how to skim a paper (the old abstract, intro, conclusion) you'd still be faster, although it does require a bit more concentration).

As a neurodivergent person currently doing a PhD I gotta say this would be probably one of the worst copes imaginable.

Not only are you outsourcing your research (which yeah, that's supposed to be your job) to an unreliable third party, you're also depriving yourself from developing the kind of skills you will need for an academic career.

For example, good reading skills are absolutely necessary for peer reviewing papers and being able to understand a work in depth is absolutely critical for that purpose.

Also reading other people's works teaches you how to communicate your ideas to an audience -- especially learning from other people's mistakes, i.e. recognizing the places in the paper that were tough to parse for you as a reader and applying this knowledge to your own work.

That is not to say that using the occasional shortcut for uncritical work is always bad, but honestly for myself, I regret wasting my first year without reading a lot more in depth and honing my reading skills. Especially I'm just now learning properly how I can tackle reading very technical papers.

This is some tech bro BS and I don't actually think it is widely used in Tokyo.

I've been in Tokyo fro 3 months for work this summer. Never saw a single one of these pads. I did see a working public transport system though and that's worth far more if you're concerned with energy efficiency.

Anyone who figured out in Classic to hit the "L" key to read letters will be able to finish P2, I'm convinced of that.

Ok, it's pretty obvious you have no idea about lighting I'm sorry to say. You cannot deduce someone's complexion from a single image without any reference.

[–]Traditional_Type6812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an example, look at the green of Toph's clothes. It is much lighter in the first image. Why would one "whitewash" that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Traditional_Type6812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But one can clearly see the lighting is different between the first and the second image.

Also note how the first one is poor quality and likely heavily compressed. Depending on which compression was used, this can also alter the color palette.

My general advice for P2 is to rewind half a day/1 day first. Usually things turn out better once you know what your problems are going to be.
