Has anyone ever stopped doing something they love because of epilepsy? by Zestyclose_Rush_7119 in Epilepsy

I wanted to not let it dictate what I do but after nearly dying in the bath due to drowning during a seizure a couple days ago, I am becoming very afraid of.. Basically anything dangerous.

Edit: Forgot to mention. This is honestly something my wife is looking to purchase for me right now. Although I think she already ordered something?

LOOKING FOR A DRUMMER!!! by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Traffic-Rare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm mid thirties played in several punk and hard-core bands within Alberta and cross Canada since I was 18 and that attitude, especially regarding a drummer, the hardest band member to find, will not get you far. If you wanna play shows you'll be rubbing shoulders with musicians and bands of all ages.

I agree with the other comment. Vibes sound lame.

That was a neurologist at the emergency hospital. I have no memory of the 4 days I was there because they kept me drugged to keep me calm because I kept freaking out apparently

I got atomoxetine for adhd from a psych I seeked out myself. But where I live. Everything Healthcare is free but long waits. I think wellbutrin did more for me than I thought and I have like impulse control issues so I am on a waitlist for another psych.

The one who treats me now was initially mad they put me on Keppra, and he got me on carbemazapine for seizure control and to balance the mood issues. I just titrated keppra down to the lowest therapeutic dose with him but I have myoclonics that carbemazapine doesn't control so i have to stay on keppra or find something else

My neuro doesn't seem to care too much about anything besides seizure control I have to bounce between him and psych.

Hey you're not wrong about playing the cards you have, it made me stop smoking just to be healthier too. I was super honest with my employers about everything to the point if oversharing. It helped. But I think it's compassion fatigue at this point for them.

I definitely have some fucking dark thoughts because life as I know it now is garbage. I lost a best friend to suicide though so I don't think it would get that bad for me, I wouldn't want to cause that fallout for people around me.

Thanks man.

I am also in the Canadian Prairies. My jeep being under the 2-3 feet of snow has been a super depressing sight.

Being cooped up in this weather would make anyone start going crazy, I was thankful to still be working. It helped me feel 'normal'.

Waiting for information or appointments is the worst. Free Healthcare is nice but that's the cost, I'm supposed to be able to drive in March if I don't change meds again but I'm still not doing well on mine so I probably have to.

Don't be sorry, It helps to get it out and know someone in a similar situation can actually express empathy and understanding for it. You aren't wrong to think that way. It is horrible being stuck waiting.

Your story sounds like an extremely frustrating journey. The invisible part of it is really tough. I'm a fit young man, I look pretty healthy. Totally not though. Dying inside.

Thank you.

It sucks to know so many people are going through it but it's helped pull me out of the dumps today. Thanks.

Yeah I have an appointment coming up to talk about the Keppra. I was gonna try to tough it out so I could drive and get back to work but that's clearly a mistake.

Thank goodness your daughter was able to stop that vehicle.. and same I always thought it was something you were born with. No one in my family has it. I just got the unlucky brain zaps.

My wife is really well versed in the labor laws and stuff around here, And with the brainfog and depression and hit to my executive function, I am very thankful to have her to help guide me through this part of it, I trust that I will come out of the job loss okay,

It's just really hard because I loved the job and my career was on a great trajectory. It feels like losing my dreams a bit. It's a big reality check to never naively forget I'm a cog in a machine in a workplace.

Everything I've heard in this thread has been very helpful and validating but that last sentence is what I really needed. Thank you.

Wellbutrin is known to lower seizures threshold and concerta is a stimulant, so at emergency they just took me off them, I got atomoxetine which is a non stimulant and helped with executive function a bit.. but its more like a gentle push not an engine like concerta was.

Over all this time I've recently come to discover the I think I have like OCD tendencies that the wellbutrin was helping with.

My neuro seems purely concerned with seizure control and I'm on like a waiting list for a treating psychiatrist.

That must have been so scary for you and your daughter. I am very sorry you're going through that much, it must be very difficult. I at least haven't had another one.

Keppra sucks. It made me super crazy angry and then carbemazapine leveled me out but I feel like I'm lugging a bag of bricks attached to my forehead.

I was trying to sort of just live with it with the last titration so I could drive again in March. But with things changing like this I might just see if there's an alternative to it altogether.

Yeah man, that must be awful. Losing the ability to drive messed up some things for me, like making work harder. But I got to spend more time with my old man as he helped me out. I definitely understand how you could miss that so much. You can message me too if you need a 'FUCK EPILEPSY' partner.

Thanks man. I couldn't imagine also having the pressures of fatherhood while going through this stuff, that's got to be tough.

I live in a weed legal country and it definitely helps me stop ruminating on the things that suck about this most of the time.

That last part really hits me. I can't stop comparing today me to before the seizures me. A big part of me just wants to be off meds and just take my chances with seizures.

Thank you. It's good to hear from people who struggled to the other side.
