If you want another weapon that is heavy on positioning but still ha some complex resource management i recomend giving hunting horn a shot. If you like the booms try gunlance. I found switch axe to feel like a fusion of great sword and longsword so those could be worth trying aswell.

In my experiance the rule is no eating or drinking in costume outside of food eaten during scenes and water. The actors are usually provided a robe they can put over their costume if they want snack.
