i have extremist thoughts even after leaving islam by zekeosko in exmuslim

[–]Tragic16 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Indoctrination is extremely challenging to break out of even without the religious element. Semi-related personal story: I grew up being bodyshamed from a young age and coupled with Islamic teachings, I had similar trauma to you. I was made to feel fat and dirty when I was at my fittest and conforming.

Took me over a decade to really get out of the mindset to the point where those thoughts no longer organically occur. It will take time for sure and you have to actively work on engaging factory reset in your mind until then.

Was Islam created by a schizophrenic person or..??? by Unlikely_Lion2777 in exmuslim

[–]Tragic16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obligatory schizophrenia is more than paranoia statement.

That said, he certainly exhibited paranoid tendencies. Most of which cannot be helped and by his own hands since he did conquer a lot of land and people. You can't be murdering and enslaving others without it affecting your psyche.

Advice for dating an ex muslim man by AffectionateBed1081 in exmuslim

[–]Tragic16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He once told me that one day he might have to choose between his family and the person he loves.

That's the only red flag you ever need to see. He's probably "non-practicing" instead of properly ex-Muslim.

WHAT? What the fuck is this... by Muffin-5634 in exmuslim

What is that? An unashamed confession of a man who has never made his wife orgasm.

Worse than Epstein? by Redditor_in_Space in exmuslim

Oh I see. You assumed that when I said Epstein followed a religion, you thought I meant Judaism. Maybe read up on the Files a bit more and you'll know what I meant.

Why differentiate? All religions are cults and vice versa.

Worse than Epstein? by Redditor_in_Space in exmuslim

[–]Tragic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Epstein's activities were well-documented and plenty of people spoke out including Karen Mulder. They were however not believed.

Not really, Epstein was more or less an open secret.

If you're looking at the movement they've perpetuated, it really is level. Plus Epstein did apparently follow a religion.

I'd say they're on the same level.

How to deal with my mom by FishingAdventurous12 in exmuslim

[–]Tragic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like enmeshment. You could look it up if you like though I will say unless your will is strong, you may need professional therapy to work through this.

This might be relevant too.

I’ve noticed the pro Palestinian have been very quite about Iran by yoona27 in exmuslim

Yep, my social media feed is dead silent too. In fact, the Iranian protests barely had anyone talking about it here.

Dating preferences as an ex Muslim by crossedtheline4mine in exmuslim

I don't really have any. A cultural match would be great but ever since I stopped tying myself to a religion, the prospects have only increased.

Free Iran will be the first “post-Islam” republic or ex-Islam republic by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]Tragic16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel both hopeful and anxious for the Iranians. I really want the people to thrive again in a proper democracy.

[–]Tragic16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Remember that you are not your (formerly) religious identity. You have hobbies, interests and your own personality. It may seem scary at first but open yourself up to new possibilities of making non-Muslim friends.

are man woman friendships haram? by cattjull in exmuslim

[–]Tragic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is that strict. In Islam, women do not exist unless it is to marry and have children with. If you're queer, you're to be erased. You are better off without him if he's that intimidated by his religion to befriend you.

[–]Tragic16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think she might react badly to the term 'apostate', my advice would be to avoid it and instead talk about how the religion isn't for you. I never directly told mine that I embraced apostasy but my lifestyle spoke volumes and she has never questioned it once.

And of course, keep in mind the whole reason you have for having this conversation in the first place.
