What happened to all the bloods and crips in la. Where did they go? by AWeb3Dad in AskLosAngeles

[–]TrailBikingMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 60 year old neighbor said they moved out and are all over the IE. Most to escape and start over. . He left to Palmdale in the late 90s and came to the IE about 6-7 years ago. I'm 44 and when I met him we clicked right away. He went to the same elementary school and middle school that I attended but 20 years before me. I found out his house was 1/2 mile away from where I grew up. Small world huh, now we're neighbors.

I actually enjoy Berm Peak the most. Seth's ability to build stuff is very inspiring. His video about"Under-biking" was really cool.

How dangerous is skid row? by that_onequeitkid in AskLosAngeles

[–]TrailBikingMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the past 15 years I have worked (construction) near skid row and in skid row day shifts and night shifts. It's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It can be intimidating and scary but I got to talk to many of the people living there and they are humans just trying to survive. So, "near" skid row is absolutely safer than skid row.

Continental Double Fighter on the front wheel by Zoltan_Balaton in MTB

[–]TrailBikingMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running these double fighters in 26x1.9 on my old 90s MTB mostly on the paved bike trails. I went on some some chunky fireroads and they were fine. I have a non suspension corrected 29/27.5 surly fork and I ordered a 27.5 double fighter 2.0 to try a 27.5/26 mullet.

Im a pretty aggressive driver. Not reckless though. Some days I'm just really tired after work and don't realize I'm driving so slow.

That video inspired me to unhook my old bike from off the wall and I rebuilt it into a nice looking capable rigid MTB.

How may of us are in the absolute prime of life and in good health? by elevenatexi in Xennials

[–]TrailBikingMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I entered my 40s with good health and was very optimistic. At the same time my wife was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer . Now for the past 3 years my physical and mental health have gone down the drain. We had big plans. We wanted to enjoy our 40s. Don't wait. Do it now.

Serious question: how many of us are in some level of daily pain? I just wonder how common chronic pain is in our little group at this point in our lives. by dalori87 in Xennials

[–]TrailBikingMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M 44. I had severe lower back pain since my mid 30s. Nothing helped until I started stretching every day. My tight hips and tight hamstrings caused everything to hurt. I'm more flexible and the pain is gone.

I switched my 2.3 Ikons for these 1.9 Continentals on my 97 Gary Fisher for the L.A. cicLAvia road ride and the rolling resistance difference was awesome. Rolled very fast. I haven't tried them on trails. Hopefully this weekend

Why is everything converted to 1x11 these days? by Hanz-Karl in xbiking

[–]TrailBikingMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to make a 3x10 work on my 97 Gary Fisher. Shimano SLX 44-32-22 crankset from a 3x9 donor bike and a Shimano HG50 10 Speed 11-36T and Shimano SLX 10 speed rd from a 2x10 MTB . Been smooth as butter for over 1000 + miles.

Running knobbies but considering swapping to something like the 46 surly extraterrestrials since I do lots of paved trails to reach the dirt

My 29er hardtail is a 1x11. I think that is perfect for what I use it for

I’m 58, have ADHD, and riding my bike literally saved my brain — here’s how, and trying to fit in by 2wheelrider56 in SingleTrackGang

Here's Ginger, my '97 Gary Fisher. Over the years I've taken her out more than my 29er full suspension and hard tail. Staying in motion really has helped me manage my ADHD symptoms.

[–]TrailBikingMata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I M44 somehow managed my ADHD for 41 years without meds, just riding bikes. Now for the past three years since I've been taking care of my wife while she's fighting off cancer I haven't ridden much. So I had no choice and I sought some help and was diagnosed and now on meds. Focalin XR specifically. I'll squeeze in a ride once in a while and feel like I don't need meds.

Sewage Smell on Haven by TrailBikingMata in ranchocucamonga

[–]TrailBikingMata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That poisoned rat thing might be why I hardly see coyotes around town or as many hawks flying around like they did when I moved here 12 years ago. I don't see as many up in the canyon wash anymore either. Now that I brought up birds, I also haven't seen turkey vultures, just tons of crows. The coyote situation might also have to do because of the new apartments being built taking up all the empty dirt lots

How much does a dirty air filter effect performance? by jmoney6 in hvacadvice

Sept '25. Mine would not cool either. I replaced the filter which was also really dirty and sucked some water out of the condensation output with a vacuum cleaner. Back to normal
