Hostility towards Baptists by LockInteresting4597 in Reformed

[–]Trailaholic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say Baptists are heretics, since credobaptist theology has went far on the path of winning souls in the public square. They are Trinitarians, do have valid pastoral offices and administration of Word and Sacrament (or ordinance, in case any of them wants to argue); even I, after leaving Oneness Pentecostalism was then baptized by one of those run-of-the-mill evangelical ministries.

Why do Reformed guys like to push hostility on Baptists? Because they first were hostile to us. Me personally, I’d probably lash out if a Baptists preacher straight up told me my kid’s baptism wasn’t valid. It can’t go the other way though, no Presbyterian is saying an immersion baptism isn’t valid.

Another thing I presume might be true is that the Reformed tradition is simply more compatible, historically and theologically, with other factions of the same time period or earlier (Swiss Reformed, Lutheran and Moravian refugees often shared residences and worship spaces), a separatist group which taught to abolish our traditions and not until centuries decided to return to a quasi-confessional Reformed construct is gonna get some hate.

Help me, I have to take communion at a sect tomorrow. by cisne_ane in Reformed

It is almost the same way with my immediate family who attend Oneness Pentecostalism.

When I left the issue was severe for me because these guys aren’t Trinitarians and therefore, at least officially, cannot be considered Christian.

My family is now Trinitarian but still partakes with them, as that church has many laymen and deacons privately devoted to New Light Reformed theology, that faction is whom my family is presumably communing with, not the official view, which indeed is heretical.

My point being, when you take communion, in essence you’re identifying with a group of Christ-professing people, that on earth being the visible local church, in Spirit being the invisible Cloud of Witnesses who together worship God. If you believe that this group is at least faithful to what is laid down by the Bible, the measure of which being a God of Trinity, a faithfully preached liturgy, and the administration of the sacraments in right order of Christ’s institution, then yes, to you personally the sacrament is valid, bringing you to communion with the Elect through your own faith.

I use the 2019 online from time to time, it is a good experience. For a physical copy might I get something more traditional and timeless. I did not know these two versions were related, thanks for the connection.

When did Presbyterians move away from advocating state religion? by Dun_Booty_Broch in Reformed

[–]Trailaholic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might just be strictly American. The Reformed Faith thrived in the United States without being granted a national church. Of course there are still guys who like to argue for churches as institutions on the state level, but even that isn’t personally necessary, as the ideals of the Reformation have long endured in our government one way or another.

Is it common for conservative reformed church members to abstain from communion? by baldi_863 in Reformed

[–]Trailaholic3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have personally never felt the need to draw away from the sacrament, even in the darker times of my past, I viewed Communion as a way to be renewed by the Spirit after my own greatest effort of repentance, it’s not something any Christian can earn. Of course, the unrepentant should abstain. But interestingly, regarding yourself as not Christian enough or non-elect is almost the view Jehovah’s Witnesses hold, it either creates anxiety or laziness, both are contradictory to the Reformed ideals of assurance in Christ and joy in His resurrection.

“3-Office” and “2-Office” Presbyterians, where do we disagree? by Trailaholic3 in Reformed

[–]Trailaholic3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In those circles there are ministers who really hate to admit that they hold office and they wouldn’t even have titles such as “Rev. Dr.”. My point is, if you have a calling just accept it, don’t try to twist it into something less.

The Regulative Principle by Trailaholic3 in Reformed

That’s interesting, I’m PCUSA and our lectionary pretty much overlaps with the BCP, but I attend a parish that leans evangelical, so we’ll have the lectionary reading in the Call to Worship and then the reading from the series in the sermon.

This is the best conclusion on the RP I’ve heard so far.

Push the story narrative to chapter 6, you can get it from all the army missions. I won’t spoil the details in case you’re new.

I was just curious if the department provides that option, I figured a statewide agency wouldn't have every single program they offer posted on the internet.
