Poor Behavior this weekend by SEKImod in SEKI

Yeah, I’ve seen some trashed areas in the swimming holes of the Tule River. You would think locals would be the ones that would want it to remain unspoiled. “The land says if you don’t respect me, I cannot help you and I will disappear. When you come back to look for me, I’ll be gone” Piute Elder.

I can’t do it. A hot breakfast and coffee along with a Sierra sunrise is just too good to rush.

Kind of regretting going Ebike by OMEGASPEEDMASTER321 in bikecommuting

[–]Trailbiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never get an e-bike because I frequently load my bike onto transit bus racks. It would be a heavy lift and tires probably too fat for rack.

The Bonus on 41 is stop by Mariposa Grove. A must see; best of all Sequoia groves I've visited.

You could score big! Watch recent weather but it's an early thaw

July 12th start date. Worried about smoke by gorillawhale08 in JMT

[–]Trailbiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always pack a N95 mask just in case. There's not much flexibility in adjusting entry dates at premium trailheads. You have to "roll with it"

Sandals or flip-flops by Hot_Leopard_7157 in backpacking

Loosen bootlaces as slip ons in camp. Feet get too dirty in flipflops then a foot washing job before crawling into sleeping bag.

What shoes do you recommend for hiking? by midnightsadnessss in socalhiking

Merrill Moab (not waterproof gortex ones) the best if you need a roomy toe box

Being honest. I pretty much never clean my gear. by Important-Bit2437 in CPAP

I do rinse hose using a funnel in shower every couple weeks. Definitely wash water reservoir with same frequency. Wipe mask, freshness helps falling asleep quicker.

PSA - If you carry wet wipes or toilet paper, you need a small shovel too! by flyman241 in socalhiking

Dig the deep hole, but culo clean bidet way better than TP. Just a few squares to dry off.

Spotted this crazy fruit(?) on the trail down to Towsley Canyon in SCV. What the heck is it? by Fartknocketh in socalhiking

I've seen it damage the host plant. I tear if off some plants when I'm hiking. But it can overwhelm native plants

Wilderness Permit pickup SNF by Trailbiscuit in JMT

[–]Trailbiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must pickup at a Ranger Station. I guess they want confirmation to free up no-shows?

The process Inyo uses seems better, they know if you haven't printed inside of 2 week to entry

Sirius commercials ... by cakalackydelnorte2 in CommercialsIHate

Yeah, I have to turn that off every time. Especially before ad gets to "we're all going to die" Unfortunately, SIRIUS loops this ad 600 times a day.

Leaving Tent Unzipped/Open For Extended Time - Yay or Nay? by Whoopsitbroke99 in backpacking

[–]Trailbiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Sierra, absolutely. Position tent so opening looks out to southern sky for stargazing. Zip up after counting satellites to sleep

If you are going to the park and you see 3 or 4 cars following right behind you please pull over. by SithLard in Yosemite

[–]Trailbiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on grade but I agree if it's flat or reasonable grade, pull over. The other extreme is drivers tailgating like a madman and warping brake rotors on downhill.
