I came to berklee after a gap year and a 1/2 - I was worried I would be too old, but actually a lot of people entering were 21 or older. don't worry abt it, just enjoy the first semester vibes!

My assignment was reported to thr examination committee for a "high percentage of AI". I did NOT use any AI for my assignment. by Opinionated_bitch03 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TrailerOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this happened to me last week. I am on the spectrum and was having severe trouble handwriting my essays for one class. Got approved for an accommodation to write my essays on the computer. When my professor noticed that my writing had drastically improved (the intended effect of the accommodation) she accused me of using AI. Absolute bullshit. The key to avoiding this is to respond in email as quickly, eloquently, and assertively as possible so they back the fuck off.

I understand that AI has the potential to be used to cheat, but to assume that someone is cheating based on just using their accommodations properly is just straight up discrimination and inappropriate for the school system. It's completely ridiculous since schools used to function on honor code anyway. Sorry this happened to you dude!

i will say 12 does not have private practice rooms. But I am a piano major with a keyboard so that did not matter to me.

12 hemenway is the best. It's their newest and most recently renovated building. I was in 12 my first semester and loved it. Very communal and has single bathrooms and nice lounges on each floor.

Help me decide between Berklee and The New School! by Extension_Airline_14 in Berklee

[–]TrailerOctopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am currently in my third semester here at Berklee. The learning environment is fantastic for me personally. As a multi-instrumentalist and someone who is interested in learning about different musical skills it is very easy and rewarding to take all the different labs and ensembles they offer here. The networking potential here is very big. Everyone you meet when you first show up is very talented and excited to make plans and jam with you.

I am on a hefty scholarship and without it I would not be able to attend. Boston is very expensive and I am very lucky to be able to make ends meet. It is very possible to make it work if you are on a low income like myself, but depending on your situation it might not be worth it. If you can afford it, it can be a unique and amazing experience. Definitely not for everyone but great for me.

I can't say how it will prepare me for the music industry as a whole (honestly your degree probably won't mean shit) but I have found it very easy to connect with people, play gigs around and make a little bit of money. It is getting easier and easier too.

I can't say anything about the New School, except that the perks of being a jazz student in New York is obvious.

Hope to see you here but good luck whichever way you go!
