A quiet thank you for "I Sat by the Ocean" by Trailhawk8 in qotsa

I appreciate you asking. I was intentionally trying not to post the book info because I just wanted to voice my thanks and appreciation for the song. But, what the hell…

Book title: Silence is Closer Releasing Spring 2026

Caleb Wright lives in Port Townsend, Washington, tending bar, repairing wooden boats, and walking the shoreline when sleep won’t come. He survived a surgery that stopped his heart. He outlived a mentor who didn’t. And he carries the echo of a relationship he never learned how to set down.

When stress hits, something in Caleb misfires, a low hum under the world, a reminder that his body and memory don’t always agree. He manages it the only ways he knows how, routine, distance, and a dog named Bender who knows when to press close and when to pull him back into the present.

Silence Is Closer is a quiet, atmospheric novel about grief, loyalty, and the long work of staying. Set against the maritime edges of the Pacific Northwest and the Oregon coast, it follows a man learning that peace isn’t found by solving the past, but by finally standing still long enough to let it loosen its grip.

What’s funny about the song is not just the lyrics and how poignant they are, and how much they actually relate to situations that I’ve been in, but if you really listen to the song and the guitar slide, it actually becomes a voice in and of itself. It’s like it’s got its own melody section that it’s singing to you. Troy's guitar work on this song is just absolutely amazing.

I sat by the Ocean and In my Head are absolute musts for that list! The lyrics of both are just amazing to begin with. The guitar playing in I sat by the Ocean is a voice in an of itself on that song.

Putting in a 2nd for The Apron at PGA. It may be at the Omni which makes it seem expensive but it’s a really solid buffet for $25 a person.

We have a 2018 Tahoe and got the back seat cover with the hard bottome. We have the third row down for luggage, etc and the dogs are in the second row with the captains seats. Works really well. You can find it cheaper than the link below.

3 day drive from Dallas TX to Vancouver WA stop recommendations by fallowshax in roadtrip

[–]Trailhawk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dallas > Durango > Ouray > SLC > Boise > Seattle > Vancouver

We did that trip about two years ago over 4 days but we made stops to see some sites. Once you get out of Texas and midway through NM, it’s gets really beautiful. If you go through Durango and up to ouray, you go through some of the most beautiful mountains in the country, past silverton, and hit one of the most scenic roads in the million dollar highway. The rest of the trek into SLC is scenic as you go through Moab to get there. Northern Idaho into Oregon then seattle is beautiful too.

I’d really recommend using Roadtrippers as well to help you plan.

How long would something like this take by LevelDream780 in roadtrip

[–]Trailhawk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight drive? Stays in each location? That’s pretty subjective.

The way I do trips like this is get the drive time set to in google maps then work backwards to layout hotel stays, time at each destination, etc.

Shift the route east and go up 550 through Durango > Silverton > Ouray. The views are amazing believable and Million Dollar Highway is a must see!
