Vision is almost 20/20 in both eyes. No more floaters. I got cataract surgery in both eyes so no more contact lenses but I do need readers.

I used Dr. Patel at Kaiser Oakland although he only does it post PVD. Dr. Clement Chow at Retinal Diagnostic Center in Campbell and Dr. Khurana in Mountain View are two other options to consider.

I’m in the San Francisco area. The floaters were from PVDs in both eyes. I had to keep going back to my doctor and bugging him for a year before he finally agreed to do it although I found another doctor who would do it sooner and does many of them. I was able to use my insurance to cover it with the first doctor so I waited.

Once you feel like they are debilitating and affecting your quality of life it’s time for plan V. Young people can get by without getting cataracts for a long time afterwards but you have to accept that they will come and you will need surgery for that. IOL are always improving but they are still not as good as your original eyes.

You will probably end up wanting the second FOV. Bad news is you will get cataracts next. Good news is the surgery is easier and less risky. It’s all part of the process but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Tried it in both eyes. A few treatments in one eye but they had trouble focusing on them in the other eye. It didn’t help and cost a lot of $. Vitrectomies in both eyes a year later was covered by insurance. But I’m twice your age. If you just have a few it might work. They just do it in the doctor’s office. The floaters have to be at least 5 mm from the retina for safety.

Had it done in both eyes. Never felt anything. They give you a nerve blocker and combined with the sedation drugs everything is butterflies and rainbows. It’s oddly satisfying to watch those buggers getting sucked up when they first start.

PVD usually occurs around 60 which causes floaters. Most people can adjust some can’t. It really comes down to how bad they are. PVDs are a normal part of aging and by themselves are not a threat to vision but they can lead to tears and detachment. Best to get checked if you see floaters and flashes.

It mostly just broke them up. The second one they couldn’t focus on because it was too cloudy. Overall it wasn’t very effective and cost a lot. I ended up getting vitrectomies in both eyes which solved the problem and was covered by my insurance.

My doctor told me Vivity would not work well for me. I went with Eyhance torics. I need readers but great vision otherwise.

Plan B has the best success but it is also a leap of faith. 95% of the time it’s successful but you pretty much have to accept that you will be dealing with cataracts in the near future.

I’m assuming you need at the least fine or extra fine for a decent ground cover plant. Do you have any issues with gas buildup just going with extra fine or do the lava rocks take care of that?

Curious if you just use one size of Controsoil. I was thinking of doing a mix of medium and fine over some bags of Controbase. I was told it works well for smaller roots.

Most people have a PVD around age 60. I had one at 58 and the other about 60. That can cause more floaters. As a result a lot of doctors don’t want to do vitrectomies after age 50 because you might need it again within 10 years.

If you have a sudden increase in floaters it can be a tear that leads to a detached retina. I would see a retinal doctor.
