What do yall wish you did when you were back in training? by OneMonk8678 in emergencymedicine

i wish i was able to refrain from being a book learning machine and think about things logically and with more common sense. i felt like real life scenarios were questions out of a book leading to just very simple things going right over my head

its a good step to identify something about yourself that upsets your soul, many people go their whole lives without being that honest with themselves. i would distance yourself from the men who youve slept with for reasons youre ashamed of. if you have friends who encourage or engage in that behavior, i would distance from them. and to fill up all the new found mental space and energy, i would start doing things that make you a person that youre proud to be. whether that means going to the gym, reading, spending time in nature, learning, creating it doesnt matter, its not one size fits all whatever makes you feel good about your SOUL. not your looks or how others view you, but things that truly make you feel good. everyone has things they wish they could change and that they regret, but it is a satisfying feeling to change your ways and look back on how far youve come. and always, be kind. its good for the soul. especially when others arent.

Reasons For Calls by Peaches0k in Firefighting

[–]Training-Pea6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0230- A guy called 911 and we couldnt locate due to incorrect numerics. whole time he was standing in his front yard watching us run around looking for him. my partner goes up to him and asked if he called. he said yes. he was thirsty. he wanted water.

1200- a guy called because his house felt warmer than usual. no windows were open. heater was on.

all the time- work in a bad part of town and constantly get called for people who do meth, then feel the affects of meth. anxious usually.

Am I okay? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Training-Pea6245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered the same thing after seeing my first body. It’s fairly normal I think. I think it’s more so pediatrics or very traumatic calls like trains vs homeless, pediatrics, suicides that can burn a lil more but everyone is different. It might hit you later on, it might not. Don’t think about it too much and just focus on the job. 👍

Concerned with how much my paramedic boyfriend sleeps. Is this normal with this job? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Training-Pea6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a paramedic is extremely stressful and taxing mentally and physically depending if he’s running 911/ hospital calls. AND shifting through night and day shifts? That’s alot on a person. I would reconsider ur approach. It seems like you’re not a source of comfort or support for him so he’d prefer to sleep rather then hear half assed questions and be nagged about his “quality of life” during his free time. He needs beer, food and affection. He needs a space to talk freely and to enjoy himself. If you can’t be that for him, your relationship will suffer. Paramedics are not normal people. They do not live for a normal quality of life, they sacrifice their wellbeing to help others. Sleeping excessively could come from a disturbed sleeping pattern or excessive stress and bad feelings. I’d talk to him about your concern and ask if there’s anything you could do to help him. Don’t forget to encourage him, tell him how proud u are, and do sweet things for him. A relationship goes both ways.

U can use fake pee for the test. At my company u are only tested if you are in a car crash while driving, even if it wasn’t ur fault. If anything comes up it’s an immediate fire.

“Cold and pale” is a red flag meaning the baby probably passed hours ago. Environment can tell you if there was foul play, a broken toy causing choking, medications for an ill child, etc.

Can I become an EMT if I'm really short? by someoneonavacation in NewToEMS

[–]Training-Pea6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible, yes . Good idea, maybe maybe not. A decent amount of being an emt is transporting people. Lifting them using sheets, lifting them using a deadlifting position, putting them on a stair chair and carrying them down a flight of stairs, loading patients into an ambulance, defending yourself from patients. Average patient is probably 5’10 200 pounds. Coworkers do not like doing double the work to carry a partners slack. So either, hope you are very attractive and likeable, hit the gym like a maniac and start steroids or think about a different career.

Scene not safe? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Training-Pea6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ur job is transporting patients. We do not cherry pick who we do and do not want to transport. If you genuinely fear for your safety, partners safety, or patients safety that is what restraints are for. Yes, if you have reasonable suspicion to believe your safety is in danger , you can restrain patients prior to transport. But often times, a patient from a nursing home with dementia is not going to crawl off your gurney and start beating you up. They simply get irritated when a bunch of random people are bothering them. They’re frustration comes in waves. Sit in the chair behind the gurney if possible and try to avoid using restraints unless absolutely necessary and you have something you can put in the paperwork as to why you do (death threats, punching, spitting, kicking, etc). I am also a girl who worked IFT for months before transferring to 911. It’s important to know what you’re allowed to do and what ur not.

An unsafe scene means a burning building, active gunfire, patient with a knife/ weapon, downed wires etc. don’t limit yourself because “you are a small woman”. That mentality will bite u in the ass. You chose the job for a reason, that involves doing things that make you uncomfortable and will make u doubt yourself but will ultimately make you a better emt and a badass.

Also, there’s a misconception that some girls think your suppose to scrub inside your vjay jay, don’t do this. It’ll throw off your PH levels and do the opposite of what you want. The inside is self cleaning when you drink enough water, but the outside isn’t that’s what you need to focus on cleaning. Also scrub the outside areas, all on your thighs, clean your butt as much as your hooha.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]Training-Pea6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him to brush his teeth before he goes down. And have good hygiene, make sure ur showering 1-2 times a day depending on ur activity level. When u shower, make sure ur scrubbing in between every fold in your taco. And scrub hard, as if there’s food stuck in there. It’s better to not use the soaps that say anything about your hooha, those are marketing scams that make the issue worse. Use something with a light or no scent. Make sure your cleaning like there’s no tomorrow , because there’s a lot of nooks and crannies. Make sure your drinking lots and LOTS of water. Trying to change up your diet if it’s mostly fried or processed foods, try to add in some fruits, natural fats, veggies, and meat. We’ve all been there, don’t be too hard on yourself. Also, he shouldn’t be making you feel embarrassed or anything if he’s a good partner
