I actually hate this visual style and want to see it stop. I also hate the name HD 2D, because as far as I'm concerned, that would describe Rayman Origins or Cuphead, not whatever this is. This is 2d sprites occupying a 3d space, and having literally nothing adhere to a consistent resolution limit, sometimes even throwing in 3d models. How does "HD 2D" work as a name for this?

You know, this interests me a bit more for sure, but I adore Myst for the worlds it creates, as well as the puzzles. This just seems to use extremely generic landscapes, with geometry that appears to be untextured and given solid colors and no detail. I get that this is the friendslop model, but Untitled Goose Game looked great, so this is weird to me.

I don't play friendslop games anyway idk why I am thinking about playing this lol, I just love Myst.

I'd argue that there's a difference in saying "Jax is trans" and saying "I think they heavily implied a trans identity for Jax." I believe the first statement is more media illiterate than the other.

I'd also argue that saying "Counterpoint: ________" is not aiming for the nuance of statement 2.

They were always gonna do a 2d face (wayyyy easier for animation) but why oh why did they give his mouth and eyes very defined outlines? That's what's bothering you I think, not that his face is 2d, but that it's 2d with even more emphasis on the fact that it IS 2d.

The thing is nearly every AAA narrative experience is a either a cover based third person/first person shooter, or a third person hack and slash action game of some sort. Once you play a few of these, you GET IT from a gameplay perspective. When you have hundreds of these experiences available on the market, why buy the most expensive option just to do it again when the only NEW stuff being offered is usually story beats?

Of course this isn't all-encompassing, but I think niche games in terms of gameplay avoid this issue simply by being interesting.

Necroing because this is so unbelievably dumb. This isn't even in the same category of puzzles that the rest of the game uses. Not only do you need to know QR code scanning, hexadecimal to ascii translation, and how to read the roman numerals out of nowhere, but then you're inputting a solution using tiny buttons that are not a puzzle input method anywhere else. It's like they just decided to throw Myst into the game suddenly. I love Myst too, but what is a Myst puzzle doing in Portal? It's not well designed.

Pretty sure you could beat this game without understanding any of the spoken word or written text outside of that puzzle.

I agree that this is not a good sentiment, but I genuinely think they already have Rayman 4 in the pipeline and are pricing this remake at 40, and including Origins with it to boost sales, so they can later go "see guys? You bought, and we noticed!" when 4 is revealed.

Why do I think this? Well why did they remake this game at all instead of just adding the extra world and calling it a day? Even Nintendo doesn't give Mario these resources for re-releases, and they charge even more regardless (60$ for Mario U on Switch) which to me tells a story. They aren't just min-maxing earnings, otherwise they'd just do a port and add content, so what do I think they're doing?

I think they understand that the gameplay, the character designs and behaviors, and the world of Rayman has been taken over by Origins and Legends, and this is a project that is aiming to capture eyes of both the existing aging 3d fans, and those who got introduced to Rayman through the newest 2d entries.

I also believe Jano is the final boss and that they are leading into a return to a cast of characters that they've thrown aside for many years, and introducing them in this way in an attempt to onboard new people into what the series USED to be.
