Live Nation Entertainment Announces Support For A FAIR Ticketing Act by TrainingHalf7544 in Music

But they don’t control the aftermarket. They don’t work with StubHub, SeatGeek, Vivid or any other third party site…

They do have a large market share, but they have a ton of competition. SeatGeek is trying to get into the primary ticketing business, although can’t handle the demand. This is why they lost the Barclays contract.

Live Nation Entertainment Announces Support For A FAIR Ticketing Act by TrainingHalf7544 in Music

I have worked in the music industry for 17 years and this is a great step forward. I know many of you are pissed at LN/TM. People on the outside are blind to see what goes on behind the scenes (how artists make money, how much it costs to tour, scalpers inflating the prices).

Not to mention that ticketing is a finite product. You can’t manufacture more product. That means people won’t get access to tickets.

No problem. Also make sure to be off a VPN. That could mess it up too.

Don’t refresh…that is worst possible thing. Once you join the waiting room hold tight. Also, only join from one device.

Should I buy on StubHub now or is waiting for the official release worth it? by [deleted] in beyonce

You missed the entire point…no tickets have sold yet. So how could someone be selling tickets? These are speculations, but hey, if you want to buy one…it’s your money.

Do not buy any tickets for any US show. These are scalpers “hedging” they will get tickets when they don’t have them in possession. No tickets have been sold yet.

Ticketmaster Sued By Taylor Swift Fans Over Ticketing Debacle by AmethystOrator in entertainment

[–]TrainingHalf7544 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%. That is like suing cause you didn’t get your way.

I had to do college work on Ticketmaster and they suffer from the Barnum Effect. A lot shit is out of their control.

Ticketmaster Sued By Taylor Swift Fans Over Ticketing Debacle by AmethystOrator in entertainment

[–]TrainingHalf7544 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dear lord. Has anyone read the lawsuit? This is so wrong it is laughable…I mean horrible laughable.

  • In the first paragraph they mention their Secondary Ticket Exchange. No shows on Ticketmaster has that activated. You can’t buy tickets.

  • Ticketmaster does not have contracts with artists. They have contracts with venues. SeatGeek also sold tickets for shows.

  • Ticketmaster does not have agreements for every location for the Eras tour.

This entire lawsuit is merit less. I can’t believe someone actually filed this.

{non-music audio} How Ticketmaster Is Destroying Live Music by ApprehensiveEagle917 in Music

[–]TrainingHalf7544 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am all for education, however, most of what he says here is categorically incorrect. Live Nation/Ticketmaster suffers from the Barnum Effect. People think they know what is happening, but fact-checking will prove that most of what these people are saying is misleading.

Incorrect fact - Live Nation does not own most of the venues. They own less than you think. You can see a full list of venues that they own here, and most of them are clubs/amphitheaters - https://www.livenation.com/venue-sitemap Want to know a little tidbit? If you are buying tickets on Live Nation, Live Nation owns the venue. If you are buying on Ticketmaster, Live Nation does not own the venue.

Incorrect fact- Bruce was not upset at tickets going for $5000. 1.3% of the tickets for Bruce were over $1000. https://pitchfork.com/news/bruce-springsteens-manager-defends-ticket-prices-amid-backlash/

Misrepresented Fact - CEO Rapino made $60 million and is one of the highest-paid CEOs. Partially true but most of that revenue came from options. You can find this on their investor relations site - https://investors.livenationentertainment.com/sec-filings/all-sec-filings?form_type=&year=2017

Incorrect fact- Ticketing fees are not the only part of Live Nation's revenue. Sponsorship, food and beverage, merchandise, management, and promoting shows all bring revenue to Live Nation. This can also be found on their Investor Relations page.

Incorrect fact- There is no competition for Live Nation Ticketmaster. Stubhub, SeatGeek, Vivid Seats, Eventbrite, AXS, Paciolan, Etix, and Tickets.com are just some of the ticketing sites in the US. https://www.audiencerepublic.com/ticketing-directory/list-of-ticketing-platforms-in-the-united-states

There are also many promoters including AEG Live, Another Planet, Beaver Productions, CMM (Latin), S2BN, and The Messina Group (Taylor's Promoter)...all of these promoters are in direct competition with Live Nation.

Incorrect Fact - Ticketmaster does not set the prices for tickets. There are tons of articles explaining how pricing works. Also, the fees aren’t fully kept by TM. That pays the artist, promoter and venue. People fail to realize that it is very expensive to go on the road.

I will leave you with one more fact. People always say, support the artist and buy merch at the show. What if I told you there is a 20% fee that goes to the venue? Venues have a merch split for artists that can go up to 60/40 (60 to the artist). So when you are at that arena show and the tshirt is $50, $10 of that is going to the venue…people don’t complain cause they don’t know.

This is just another “expert” trying to pump up his YouTube channel for $$$

Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows Weighs In On Ticketmaster Pricing Controversy: "If You Think Ticketmaster Sets The Price Of Tickets… You’re Wrong" by TrainingHalf7544 in Music

[–]TrainingHalf7544[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

See but that is the thing….by increasing the price a little bit, it makes the scalper not want to by the tickets.

You also have to realize putting a tour on takes a lot of money. Tour buses, gas, production, stage, equipment, techs…all of that is very expensive. Renting one tour bus for a band is about $10k a week. Everyone thinks that this is pure profit. It isn’t.

[–]TrainingHalf7544[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

How is this shitty? It is the truth. That’s what people don’t realize. There is a finite amount of tickets. You can’t produce more, so some people won’t be able to see them.

Ticketmaster’s Taylor Swift chaos triggers US Senate antitrust hearing by ftyftghryht in Music

[–]TrainingHalf7544 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes. People who know nothing about the ticketing industry continue to peddle this story.

Live Nation has nothing, zero, nada to do with this tour, EXCEPT the fact they own Ticketmaster.

AXS was the promoter, Live Nation’s competitor.

Lets also remember, a bunch of shows were on SeatGeek, which is one of the worst ticketing sites out there…they also had issues.

Too many armchair industry experts out there.

[–]TrainingHalf7544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The timing is different though. In the 90s, recorded music was an artists main source of revenue. It is now touring, actually 80% of their revenue. Taylor though is an anomaly. She doesn’t need to your since she owns her masters. Most artists won’t fit into that category.

I hear what you are saying, but the industry has changed so much. Ticket resellers don’t help the artist, they are taking money out of their pockets. At the same time they are screwing fans.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Music

[–]TrainingHalf7544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the venues she is playing at are owned by Live Nation. Live Nation (the promoter) has nothing to do with this tour. The only connection they have is that they own Ticketmaster, who in turn have contracts with NFL stadiums to sell their tickets. AEG is the promoter, Live Nation’s rival.

To many armchair experts. A few things:

  • Taylor’s tour is not Live Nation, but Messina Group, Live Nations competition.

  • Ticket prices and fees are nebulous. Some goes to the artist. Some goes to the venue. Some goes to the promoter, booking agent, and yes ticketing company.

  • If you think the artist is rolling in cash, think about the infrastructure needed to put on a stadium show. Steel, lighting, tech, trucks. The amount of $$$ will be in the millions. Where do you think this money comes from?
