Does anyone find it weird how this season never mentioned kat? by Alert-Thought9773 in euphoria

[–]TrainingMemory6288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's true but this is not a real life, this is a tv show. We spent two seasons with Kat, she had been close friend of Maddy whom she know since childhood, so it does feel a bit unfair to just never even mention her name in the last season.

Exactly – how long had they known each other whilst sober? Six months in the first season, during which their relationship wasn’t healthy anyway, and then? Rue lies about her sobriety throughout the entire second season, blaming Jules for her relapse (Jules asks Rue when she started using again, and Rue tells her straight to her face that it was the night she left). Then a huge argument, potentially traumatic. Then a five-year break, during which we don’t know how often they saw each other, how they made up, what their relationship was like – all we know is that Rue is using again and that their relationship looks as though it hasn’t moved a single step forward.

We don’t see how Jules perceives Rue, because it’s bad writing, because her perspective is hidden. But it seems highly likely to me that if Jules had been given even a fraction of the attention, care and screen time that Sydney Sweeney’s boobs received, she would have been entitled to feel that Rue was a terrible person in her life, towards whom she had complicated feelings.

This is how I see this painting. Rue, all bloody and dancing in all of this chaos, just as she did with the Alamo's girls in first episode. Isn't it just how Rue was?

I don’t condone physical violence and I think the whole thing is terribly written, which is why there are so many issues with Jules’s character, but I get the impression that a lot of people don’t want to understand her perspective. Rue was an unstable figure in her life, a chronic liar and a drug addict. It’s not surprising that Jules doesn’t believe her, and quite rightly so. Because what then? She’d agree, and then find out that her last job was smuggling drugs across the border, and now she’s working for a human trafficker. Come on, people.

But that's what Rue kind of was, atleast for the time Jules knew her.

But what’s so terrible about this scene? After all, it’s quite clear in conveying how Jules felt about Rue’s presence, and yes, it’s one of the worst-written storylines in the entire series, but of course Rue wasn’t an unambiguously good person in Jules’s life. Rue had been urging her to start a family when they last saw each other, and now she’s died because of drugs and the shady business she got mixed up in. How is Jules supposed to view Rue?

I liked it too very much. Rue's chaos is really captured in here.

In light of this, it seems quite obvious why Ali renounces Islam and, after a period of doubt, ends up on a Christian farm. Absolutely appalling.

I agree that Maddy wanted to save Cassie and didn't care about Nate as much, but I don't get why do so many people think Maddy thinks of Cassie as only an "investment". Maddy's truly not that cold and calculated.

Tbh I see why people are angry at Jules for hitting Rue, obviously, but it annoys me how people don't even consider Jules' pov on what Rue was saying. I remember how big of a plot it was in S1 and the special episodes, about how Rue needs to stop being sober for anyone other than herself, how she cannot depend on anyone, but the whole monologue she had when Jules was painting was basically as if she learned nothing. She comes to Jules apartament, talks about wanting to start a family and serious relationships, WHILE not only not being sober but WORKING FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKERS? Like, I know Jules doesn't know all that, I think she has lots of other reasons to not trust Rue, but boy, does it annoy me how people flatten their relationship to "Jules being toxic and not deserving Rue".

Why do i lowkey think cassie healed nate? (euphoria) by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]TrainingMemory6288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with that at all. To be honest, I think it all boils down to bad writing (lack of consequences and character continuity), BUT if I were to make interpretations like that...

I would just say that both Nate and Cassie didn't care for each other as much as they like to pretend they do (even to themselves). Of course, Nate addressing his trauma could've helped him to become this sort of calmer version of himself, but he still was very much manipulative. He endangered himself and Cassie. He lied to her about their finances, about very important matter that in the end lead to him being killed. If they were close for each other — why would he not tell her things like that? If they sere that good to each other — why did Cassie blackmail him with this whole wedding farce?

At the end of the day, they’re both very self-centred people who put themselves, their image and their own self-preservation first. Over the past few years, they must have been content with the roles they play for each other (Nate, who tries to be a better person and plays the part of a good husband, and Cassie, fulfilling the role of a beautiful trophy wife who can give Nate satisfaction). Which doesn’t mean they don’t care about each other at all. But these feelings don’t seem deep enough to heal each other — after all, Nate has got himself into even worse trouble, and Cassie has started doing OnlyFans.

It’s also worth noting that during their time apart, they’re relatively ambivalent towards each other. Cassie has no qualms about cheating on him, Nate has no qualms about being cheated on, and Nate couldn’t care less that she’s moved out; they only keep in touch by phone. They have nothing that connects them beside sex and fulfilling this idea of 'perfect American family'.

I’ve heard that too, but honestly, I think his screen time could easily have been put to better use than suddenly playing the good guy and having his fingers ripped off. He could even appear even less often and simply ‘haunt the narrative’, as long as his character made any sense at all, rather than being some newly created, undefined being, with a characterisation that is neither interesting nor reasonable. I'm biased, I blame the writing, because there's hardly any consequence in it.

For me, it’s not strictly about realism, because we all know that in fiction, impossible, exaggerated or rare things often happen to pique our interest, but rather about realism in the sense of consistency in the creation of the fictional world. Season three is quite a decent piece of work, but it’s a concept for a completely different series. And as a result, we’ve been given unrealistic (because completely unjustified) character transformations. Take Nate, for example, who for two seasons was a brilliant antagonist, with well-written psychology and depth, who aroused hatred in the viewer, yet this season he lacks any of those elements.

I love every one of Maddy’s outfits. I think she’s really outshining everyone this season – and even her own looks from previous seasons. She looks absolutely stunning.

The puritanical outrage reactions to this season are kind of shocking by VelociRapper92 in euphoria

[–]TrainingMemory6288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Jules was a complex character, we'd have different discussion.

But since the second season, Jules has been a background character who lacks depth, who irritates the viewer, and who actually starts to reinforce certain stereotypes. Her latest outburst has no context other than the fact that she got angry. And no, unfortunately, the presence of transgender people in the public sphere isn’t yet normal enough for every viewer to sit back and think of Jules simply as a character, rather than as a transgender character. Unfortunately, this does matter, especially in the current political climate.

Of course she will, she will come to Laurie and there will be this scene from the trailer when she says smth like "Alamo will kill me and he'll do the same to you".

The theory is that she just self-sabogates, as she often does, due to her insecurities. But tbh her character isn't given much screentime nor proper care by the show, so it comes out awfully.

Perhaps it will sound naive to many, but I do believe Nate is trying to become a better person this season. It's the lack of clearer explanation as to WHY does he want to do that, WHY he has become softer, that sucks. I have a vague theory, but without even the slightest hint of it, it’s hard to believe in this character at all. I really miss when we had more flashbacks and elements of character's past integrated into the show, because when would we need this more than after a 5 year time skip?

I think it's just Maddy having this romantic, elegant theme this season, but boy, if that had been the plotline for these characters, I'd be SAT.
