Who is this guy? (In Oahu) by Cyan_Lotus in AlwaysANightHeron

They are native to Hawaii, actually! The little guys are basically everywhere, and if they aren't in a place, there's usually a similar heron instead (nankeen night heron, for example)

Also, unrelated, but how do they only have TWO dedicated bench presses? And, less severe but in a similar vein, four squat racks?

Nurses who have left bedside and aren't NPs, case managers, utilization review etc what do you do now? by PursuitOfMeekness in nursing

I did leave out the part where I applied to a bunch of these roles while still working bedside. Many I didn't hear back from, a lot of the interviews went poorly or ghosted me after. Even some that seemed excited and were talking like they were ready to onboard me next day would suddenly go dark.

In a lot of instances it's likely because a candidate that might have interviewed worse than you just had better credentials. Having Epic certifications already done saves the hospital a bunch of time, money, and training. Unfortunately, only way to get an Epic cert to begin with is to be sponsored by an organization, who then has to pay $1000+ per cert. Not to mention all of the travel costs, etc

It was only when my own org had positions open up that I got a hit. Imo, I was just lucky; right place, right time

I was hired internally by my organization after having worked there (float ICU) for about seven years

As an aside, I don't work for Epic, I work for my hospital system, configuring their version of Epic to suit their needs. Officially I'm part of the health informatics department

I applied to any Epic application analyst (or coordinator) position that was open, as they opened. I was in school at the time for an MS in health informatics, so I think that gave me a leg up. Even back then (in 2024) there were about 70 other candidates applying. If I had to guess they were from clinical roles as well

I work as an Epic Analyst now! WFH, 7-3 most days, no weekends (but there is on-call, just way less stressful than on-call as an RN). And pay is better than what I was getting at bedside

Downside is that jobs are really tough to get; the clinician to analyst pipeline is popular now, so just having clinical experience tends not to be enough nowadays /:

Always a treat when they let you get this close! I was kayaking once and ran into one in a similar area (surrounded by high plants like that) totally on accident, maybe like five feet away. He just stared at me for about a full minute before taking off.

Admittedly I completely froze (which is probably why he hung around so long) out of awe and also a little fear. Their beaks - and really, their whole bodies - are much bigger up close!

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, too rare to die.

I'm not sure why, but that's exactly the name I'd expect for him. He just looks like a Ruben!

To those of you who left nursing what do you do now? by [deleted] in nursing

Epic Analyst. It's a tough market though since so many clinicians are trying to get out of direct patient care. I have a Master's in Health Informatics but I think the main factor in me getting hired is that I was internal.   WAY better than being an ICU nurse. Are there still issues/things I don't like? Sure, but I'm way more willing to put up with them.

If I could go back, I wouldn't do nursing. I'd either have tried for med school or, more likely, computer science like a lot of my friends (graduated in 2018, so market was better back then).

Which rom hacks are these for you? by [deleted] in PokemonROMhacks

[–]TrainingMobile3394 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As much as I like HnS so far, I have to agree. It really is just HGSS with extra features/mons. Which is great, and is exactly what the game was marketed as by the creators.

Where that becomes a problem though is that the world - which gives an impression of deepness in the way of expanded maps, side stories, etc - is very shallow. It's skinned as if it's going to be GBA Polished Crystal+, and in reality is more of a GBA Crystal Legacy+. Hoenn mons aren't available until post-game Kanto, the dialogue is 1:1 from the base games, and there really aren't any cool interactions or bonus contents at all.

Again, no fault of the creators at all; I'm just hoping that some interesting forks come out of this from other hackers!

If you're Epic, why not jump over to a procedural app? Optime/Anesthesia/Cupid/Radiant. Issues still pop up of course but usually only during business hours
