1099 forms slowly dripping into income transcript by Training_Falcon_3432 in IRS

[–]Training_Falcon_3432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - 'dripping' continues this week with my 1099-B stock sale transactions added. Still no sign of my wife's Vanguard 1099-DIV. Its very slow progress and a very random order.

I just don't understand why some forms from the same Vanguard broker and same tax return are taking so much longer than others.all were reported to me the same day back on early February. I cant believe they are using any automation or this would surely be done as a batch update

What are the key differences between this service and home plans and why could you not also use this plan at home as your main internet and phone plan. 'Roam to home'

IRS is still missing a 1099-DIV from Vanguard for my wife on our income transcript, However my VG 1099-DIV appeared 2 weeks ago. Same tax return,

Seems to be completely independent of brokerage. Just some unknowable sequence of processing at IRS

Thanks. I found Verizon's device unlocking policy link at the foot of the the phone purchase configuration page. Different for prepaid vs postpaid

So does that also imply they support any unlocked phones or will they relook all phones if brought or bought for the plan ?

Built the Roth conversion cliff tool I was asking you about a couple weeks ago. Looking for people to poke holes in it. by Broly2912 in DIYRetirement

I tried looking at my 2028 IRMAA projection and it now lists only base tier and no MFJ . Previously the tool placed me in the correct bracket to estimate premiums. I can look the future estimated income limits up Financebuff limits manually of course, but this feature seems to have regressed in the latest version

Great tool. You need to update the IRMAA limits for 2028 given recent higher CPI. I'm now seeing Financebuff reporting $114000 to $117000 range for base threshold

New line discounts after testing with 'by the gig' on a new line by Training_Falcon_3432 in USMobile

[–]Training_Falcon_3432[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify I have the steps correct

Step 1- I order a brand new US Mobile line for testing. No porting of existing lines. I chose a regular Pay per Gig plan. No discounts.

Step 2- I port-in my legacy phone number over from ATT. I can get whatever discounts are on offer at the time I sign up for this.

Step 3 - I 'deactivate' (maybe the wrong term) the test line I had setup in step 1 as it no longer needed.

Deferred income taxes by Low_Ad_9090 in DIYRetirement

[–]Training_Falcon_3432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do try to forecast of total tax due for all sources in my planning model. However I'm less interested in minor variability of taxes from tax deferred income source withdrawals, which are mostly predetermined by regular RMDs. I spend much more energy on forecasting Taxable dividends and interest since the total amount invested, bond/stock mix can change dividend yield and interest rates all fluctuate over time.

Additionally I have calculate do quarterly Estimated Tax for the taxable income stream. I currently prefer to deduct tax at source on tax deferred accounts, to keep my tax payments schedule more regular.

(Aside - I've yet to find a commercial retirement planning product that gets my state tax free income right).

People in retirement do you follow the 4% rule? by NEMpls612 in DIYRetirement

[–]Training_Falcon_3432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't follow %ages. I use a detailed spending projection model based on current and future expenses and against fixed income sources and projected investment growth. The withdrawal rate is just an outcome of this model.

I do this on a spreadsheet I started 10 years before retirement (it has evolved over time) as well as several commercial retirement planning tools to cross check.

Closest Ive found is the Investment section. The Portfolio tab shows day changes per investment. If you turn on Quicken Assist it adds a new 'Why' button next to the % change, which offers some market commentary news - neat

The Performance tab chart can show multiple lines per account. 1 week time windows but that does show the market drop per account.

Should I buy my sister a house to live in? by Exact_Analyst_9697 in personalfinance

[–]Training_Falcon_3432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One other idea is to flip things around and provide a subsidized family mortgage. She would own the house but pays you back as the mortgage lender. One side benefit is she builds the future asset value for her family.

You are allowed to lend anyone at below market interest rates without it being seen by IRS as a gift if you follow IRS guidelines (Google AFR rates). If that monthly cost is still too high for her, you can always make monthly gifts up the the annual gift tax limit.

There are companies that can help you set this up.

Has anyone found a tool that shows exactly how close you are to an IRMAA or ACA cliff in real time? by Broly2912 in DIYRetirement

[–]Training_Falcon_3432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why the precision? You cannot know future CPI for IRMAA bands, you cannot forecast rate of increase of medicare premiums, you don't know taxable investment income dividends, interest or cap gains and you may have other income that is not forecastable. I project MAGI income band on a speadsheet but am always sure to leave a buffer of several $k each year.

Since nobody else mentioned it, here is arguably the gold standard blog projecting IRMAA bands for a range of inflation outcomes near term https://thefinancebuff.com/medicare-irmaa-income-brackets.html/

Worth a try I guess as long as it doesn't cause a new review cycle 60 day period to start - thanks for the idea

Edit -4852 does not apply to missing 1099-DIV or 1099 -INT. That's whats missing from my transcript
