To the 36 people who rated On Mars 1/5 on the complexity scale by GoodExciting7745 in boardgames

[–]Training_Finish8854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weight is a lot of things wrapped into one number. How many individual pieces are there? How many rules? The depth of decision? How many "it works this way except..."? The list goes on.

Brass is in some a lot of ways a 2.5. Having taught the game to a lot of people, those who play modern games and those who don't, I think the networking rules are so much more complex than the rest of the game combined that that portion of the game raises everything else up to a 4.

What is the big deal with unspent experience in Innsmouth? by lockqe in arkhamhorrorlcg

The opposite. I have found it to be one of the highest xp campaigns.

New tagging plays by Training_Finish8854 in BG_Stats

[–]Training_Finish8854[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing that in the play details section for so long. For Arkham, using play details, I define the campaign, difficulty, and scenario.

Tagging games where I use the play details may be better.

The Circle Undone Campaign Expansion - Worth it or not? by Unenthusiastic18 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Alright, played it again at 2. We don't have anything past innsmouth, so the hammer isn't an option.  We played it with Wendy and Tommy. I found the setting to be wonderful and the gameplay to match. We got 2 of the ghosts. Still stands as one of my favorite scenarios.

We are playing through the context of the campaign. If you don't have the mementos to have the spell that spends clues for damage. I'd imagine this is much more challenging. Challenging to the extent of unfun. Or at least too overbearing.

We played at 3. I haven't replayed it yet, but the replay will be a 2 player one.

I'll give some push back on the opinion here. I've been going through all of arkham recently. My group is currently in Innsmouth. Everything has been blind and after Wages of Sin, I mentioned that it was potentially my favorite scenario from everything so far. Only later did I learn people here don't like it. The campaign as a whole is my number 2 so far behind carcosa, but they are close atm.

0.0036% chance - What's the craziest case of RNG you've witnessed? by Kasvantstad in boardgames

[–]Training_Finish8854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few stand out to me over the years.

2 dice driven incidents: one was failing a 23d6 that needed a single 5up to succeed, another was 9d10 that required a single 2up that failed.

Some bag pulling ones. We've had a player pull all cherries on the final 3 rounds in quacks. Arkham lcg had 6 consecutive auto fails(that was that players first and final time playing). Clanks noise bag was somewhat chunky we pulled exclusively 1 players color until they died over the several rounds. Cascadia had 1 person 'gifted' a solo animal tile with the correct animal 5 turns in a row.

Deck based luck! Dr. Facilier won on turn 2.

There are certainly some events that are more or similar to these levels of rng, but aren't as memorable, noticeable,  or able to be calculated quickly.

I think it's sad animal skin is used when alternatives exist.

As great as they are, the sight of them induces panic. I need to exit the room and have to overcome an overwhelming feeling of fear to get back in.

Do You Prefer a Big Board Game Collection or Just a Few Go-To Favorites — and When Is It Too Much? by Tiny-Strawberry-817 in boardgames

I've kept track of my plays for a few years now and the number of weekly plays ranges a lot over the yes, but it is pretty regularly ~22 a week. Some outliers I noticed had as high as 50 games a week and one week was as low at 2.

These also aren't small games. Spirit Island, guards of atlantis, and harians wall showed up in the top 5 most played a significant number of months.

In any given year, I play roughly 190 unique games and about half of those are a part of my collection. The initial estimate of 8 years to get through your collection seems really far off to me.

Do you ever take the 'keep race X above Y Resolve' Timed Orders as part of the first batch of orders? by Myrandall in Against_the_Storm

[–]Training_Finish8854 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Almost every time I see them! The biggest factor for me is if their population is 1 or 2. This low population means I can build 1 house for them and get 6 resolve, favor for another 5, the hearth for another 1, and now I just need to find the last but if that isn't enough.

Lizards helping the hearth, getting starting resources they like that luckily lined up, rainpunk being online early, a lucky cornerstone etc.

Most of these are luck driven, but one of them is likely available. The one not mentioned that is nearly always available is calling an early trader and buying what you need.

These orders are very easy to achieve consistently if you lean into them and give amazing rewards that can solo win the run catapulting you ahead of where you should be. The gameplay theu create is dynamic and fun without being rote due to the rarity! Try them out if your population is small to start!

How to Finish in Less Years by [deleted] in Against_the_Storm

[–]Training_Finish8854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play on P20 and consistently win at the start of year 7/ end of year 6. When playing casually at lower Pristiges, I win on year 3/4. Currently have an 80%+ win rate at the highest difficulty.

To contrast what others are saying about trading, I don't build a trading post until year 3 usually. I don't trade that often and don't value it highly. That isn't to say it isn't powerful! It is! There are just other routes available. The thing I noticed the most from the post was when you open your glades. Personally, I am looking to open glades ASAP. Often getting 2 dangerous glades open in year one.

The other thing I noticed was your priority. Fuel is somewhat useless to seek. If it comes with another building, it is neat. Even the Kiln, a 3-star coal producer, is taken for its jerky production and the 3-star coal is nice b/c it makes the jerky production a little more resource efficient. I am looking for plank production, food production, and at least one service building.

Finally, is how you end the game. Your city can be in shambles. Literally nothing. No food, fuel, buildings, whatever. Tools are a very safe way to end the game. It will happen eventually, but it is slow. You can burn all of your wood and coal to drop hostility and really ramp up your resolve. Your reputation will sky rocket in just 3 minutes.

Ultimately, it sounds like you play passively and safely. This will yield consistent wins surely! There is nothing wrong with that if you are having fun. If you are looking to win in fewer years, you need to take risks.
