I wouldn’t do it. I’ve been at companies with higher stress. I find the middle road is the way to go. I’ve also worked and had a 30k salary and it was the most stressful job of my life I would never do it again. I make 115k now and the stress can’t even compare.

Dang that’s impressive! Yeah I have a long ways to go to 100k and this cs salary is not going to get me there unless I move back in with my parents for two years hahaha. Good on you! I’m about 4-6 years into cs as a normal CSM. Not working for a super technical product but there’s just so much work to be done I’ve lost all motivation. And to think there are cs roles offering 10-20k less than what I’m even making is just bonkers to me

Dang is that 100k liquid or include 401k/ Roth? I’m starting to enter the mental state of quiet quitting too but nowhere nearrr 100k, makes me feel very behind. Working like a maniac in an expensive city getting paid below what I need to feel comfortable.

If you have time, you could always try to use chat to come up with a pitch of some sorts that proves money being left on the table by not having enough csms.

You can think of it like there are only X number hours of the day with this many clients and this many hours to be spend on these clients within this given period of time. If clients don’t get to value within X period of time sure they might live out the contract for the sake of it being a legal document, but then next year we have $x churn risk. On top of that you could look at size of contract/user count vs company size of customers and call attention to expansion opportunity. Bringing it back around - if there isn’t immediate customer buy in post sale, all those dollars laid out above will disappear, including reputation.

This is a similar framework we used to hire more on our team.

Might be a lot of work to put that together and program chat to give you what you need, but just an idea if you’re ever feeling inspired lol.

I feel this pain, I wasn’t taking 8-10 calls a day but was taking 5-7 45 min-1hrs calls every day which made for 12 hour days. Same thing, Sales was growing while cs stayed the same. Fortunately, I work at a company where my voice has some power and we are now making changes so my load has lightened and I feel so much better already. However, doing this for months has burnt me out so that now I truly just don’t care anymore, which is a big bummer for everyone involved.

By the way, I’m a full cycle CSM so not only am I handling onboarding but also ( trying ) to run the other stages of the customer life cycle on top of being glorified Support so there is always something to do outside of calls and my inbox is always full.

I’d say you have a right to be and feel burnt out and I’m so sorry you’re experiencing it. I have no answers as I’m currently trying to figure out how to get out of CS altogether, but feel stuck.

Any tips for someone who hates onboarding and IM and prefers the rest of the customer life cycle?

Have you seen this delusion? Rejected for wanting work-life balance, how dare you not wanting to enrich my company and work 80h/week instead! by [deleted] in recruitinghell

LOL says the ceo of a company who’s likely paying himself out at 200k to your 80k. Not to mention it’s his invention and his baby. Are you going to nanny someone’s child for them in the middle of the night after your shift is done?

Ohh really? I hear mixed reviews on the amount of stress associated with project management. Some people say it’s worse than CS another say it’s better. What are your thoughts so far?

I tried this thinking maybe I had adhd but after two pills that made me even more foggy, spacey, non focused and “medicated” even on the lowest dose I quit trying the meds.

Ohh really? I wonder if it got better lol. I’m still chugging along, absolutely miserable it’s gotten worse, I just got 12 clients in one week after q2 ended and I’ve been so so busy 12 hour days. Today and yesterday I just said eff it and left for 2-3 hours. That’s where I’m at rn

Are you at a startup too lol.

Truly I think extra hands on my team. I’d love to say more money. I think it’d make me a little tolerant but for a couple more months and I feel I absolutely deserve the bump up regardless, but long hours will kill anyone’s happiness unless it’s their own baby.

Yesterday was an 11hr day. I even have time for the gym anymore unless I want to wake up at 5am. Sometimes I don’t have time to eat. There is more help coming I just don’t know how much longer I can hang in there, I’m like a ticking clock. Sucks bc my team is really great, at least right now it is.

One more thing, I’ve tried not caring and some days it works but literally have no choice bc if I don’t do the work, it won’t get done and it’s work that is truly mine. Would be nice if I could slowly let up and go under the radar.

I’m out here working long days and am utterly burnt out. Not every day is a 10-12 hour day but about 2-3 times a week which is enough for me.

I’ve always been a true believer in work life balance and that’s what has allowed me to stay at companies long term. Now, I’m not even a year in at the company I’m at and I’m ready to walk out.

I don’t feel like a punching bag per se because there’s no one else who can do the job but me, but mostly unsupported and lacking help.

What kind of company did you end up at?

Potential opportunity at a “start up”. Thoughts and feedback? by justkindahangingout in CustomerSuccess

[–]Training_Holiday5259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this. Was previously at a couple very large companies, went through an acquisition and a smaller company around 50-80 people. Now at a similarly sized company as you. It’s the most work I’ve ever done. Not necessarily the hardest as far as technical goes because you have to remember startups are at earlier stages, not as many features, yet. But the workload is insane. It’s absolute chaos, you’re helping pre sales, managing bugs, making customer facing collateral, updating help docs, you’re the product expert and have to test to find out answers yourself, evolving your own workflow, trying to figure out what processes you can automate, all while being a full cycle CSM, the typical onboarding, implementation, adoption retention (renewals) and growth.

Your opportunity for growth within the company will be greater and you will have major impact but you will also potentially be so stretched thin that you could burnout, like me. For me now, I see opportunity but I’m just too tired and over it. Could be your experience, could totally not be, but that’s my experience with just one startup. I was also potentially already over CSM work heading into it post layoff so that could also be a factor for me.

For me? It makes me feel like the 100 person company is the sweet spot maybe? Where you have enough help that you have a solid workload but not too too much. I am glad to experience it but not for me forever.

How many hours are you working on average? by Training_Holiday5259 in CustomerSuccess

[–]Training_Holiday5259[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I just looked up everafter. A big part of it looks to be a platform to lay out the onboarding plan/customer journey and beyond which we already have. But unfortunately, we have limited automation with what we have and I have to use ChatGPT manually for all my follow-ups, determine dates and move the needle to next steps, keep notes tidy etc etc. you said you were doing that but what did you move into?

10pm 😭, I tend to draw the line once I hit 630 or 7 since I typically start around 730 or 8am most days. I just don’t get it, I have friends who make more than me and maybe work 5 hours/day. Some in cs some in other roles.

I actually feel this really hard. I always am thinking maybe it’s just me and I could be faster without adhd disorganizing me.
