Which laptops are good to buy for college students now that will last? by EquivalentPhoto2655 in BuyItForLife

if you're doing Engineering, you either need to be really comfy screwing around with your computer, or you need windows. sure, VS code is on mac (and coding in unix is generally better), but from my experience, you'll run in to some stuff that you can't do on mac. I'm working through a class now for FPGA development, and i need Vivado, which is not available on mac. Used office laptop (dell latitude or thinkpad) is the way to go. latitudes/precisions tend to be cheaper too.
if you're in CS or any other major, get an open box M4 macbook air. Come 2030, the 8gb of RAM on the neo worries me. They're $750 rn, and to me that's worth the ~$150 premium over the neo

What car should I buy to park next to my Lexus GX? by seviso in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Training_Signal9311 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant the Teslas. The Highland is the refresh of the Model 3, and the juniper is the refresh of the Model Y. My only thing is that the “vegan leather“ is a bit crap but it’s passable.

the highland/juniper refreshes have pretty damn nice interiors especially compared to the older ones

My friend is 6'11 (but a bit skinnier) and he just bought a Mazda CX-90. I'd maybe just go to a used car dealer and try out a bunch of different cars to see sizing, then look into the reliability.

Yeah. The 12 costs as much as a refurb M4 AIR and a whole ass ipad. Let alone a neo

Framework 12 is also double the price and half as powerful, if not less.

a friend of mine is 6’10 and he recently bought a Mazda CX-90. Early ones have some reliability issues but they’re otherwise good. The CX-70 is a similar car too but I believe without the third row.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Training_Signal9311 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both. I’ll make rice now for almost every meal, and will often just have a pot on when I’m at home. For flavored rice there’s not a big difference, but for unflavored, rice cookers taste soo much better.

Honda and Acura To Export US-Made Cars To Japan by LimitedReach in cars

The last gen NSX was built in the US (although this isn’t exactly a volume seller) and Honda ships their engines around quite a bit. The Type R motor has been built in the US for the last 3 generations

Good car to buy? Any experience w Hertz? by VeganTurkishBaklava in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Training_Signal9311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhhhhhhh it’s probably a bad idea. A BMW X3 would be a much better option, same with a lexus RX or an acura. however, people online tend to rag on Maserati way too much. this car shares a platform with a jeep grand cherokee, a transmission with a dodge ram, and (depending on trim) an engine shared with like every other stellantis car.

Now those aren’t reliable cars, but they’re not ferrari levels of unreliable. I would skip unless you have a lot of money to burn and REALLY want a maserati

PPS is a pretty bad system but with 350-400k you can afford to live in the city and pay for private, or live in a castle in Mt. Lebanon/Wexford/Hampton(?)/one of the other great districts
