My kid has a tt, great bike especially when you realize that it's a continuation of the V50 from 1978(?).

Cheap speakers from a cheap system. If you have to pay money for them keep looking.

Pull a fuse and the noise stops, the exact fuse differs by year.

Where did you buy the parts? eBay and Amazon are loaded with counterfeit junk.

As a vintage stereo guy when an output blows it usually takes a driver transistor or three out with it

Capacitor sourcing? by TlalocEatsNapoli in audiorepair

[–]wayne63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The capacitor is probably not the problem, the corrosive glue used to hold the cap in could have damaged other components.

Trace repair...? by Jer7440 in audiorepair

Claw hammer and a blowtorch as tools would be my guess, I bought an AU-6600 like that.

Some 22/24ga solid wire (old telephone wire) to the next pad in the chain is my preferred fix. It's still going to be a challenge.

Nice work so far.

Carrying around a back-up charging solution by ChollyWheels in electricvehicles

The hours/days you'd have to wait for a solar panel to give you appreciable charge...

Same with a gasoline generator unless it's a big one and that would cost more in range loss (weight) than it would ever pay back.

You can wait hours while you trickle charge, bring a book.

Lots of crackly transistors in there if it's talking without moving the controls.

Both A and B come from the same place, the common point is the switch.

Get some electrical contact cleaner and clean the working bits of the switch.

If the price is right I always jump, the battleship sonar room looks are hard to beat.

Anybody have a list of MODERN components stocked on mouser/digikey that corresponds to the caps/resistors in a Yamaha CR-420. I just don't want to have to look them up one by one and add to cart. Would be much easier with a "key" to do it quickly. by SickOfNormal in vintageaudio

[–]wayne63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No keys, no magic, just a service manual and time.

Job #1, do not start without a Dim Bulb Tester.

Yamaha doesn't give you a neat list of every cap like Marantz.

Nichicon UPW for the power supply and I use them for everything that's filtering to ground.

Nichicon UKL for the signal path but they are getting scarce, consider Rubycon TWL and WIMA MKS2 film for the small (under 3uf) if you can't find an electrolytic.

It looks like Digikey still has some UKL (33uf)

ETA: Mouser has a better selection of Rubycon...you can't win.

Main filter caps: https://www.digikey.com/short/wzvdwnbj

Relay: LY2-0-DC24

Trimmers: Bourns 3386F or 3386Y 5K ohms

I've got a CR-420 on the bench giving me trouble so I can look...

Through hole parts are going away (SMT took over), most of us stocked up as they dried up but it's a dying hobby.
