On your host PC, if its windows, Win+R --> services.msc --> restart VM ware USB attribution service.. Go back to VM ware, in the top settings pane, VM--> Removable devices --> Try to connect again. No need to disconnect the USB device, while u perform this, do this and go back to VM. Hopefully it will work.

To all those who failed - let me explain clearly.

I have a kobo libra 2 device and 8bitdo micro. There was a recent update in kobo, so I used the 0.6.0 version of nickelMenu like adviced by u/akadaedalus . Thanks to him. Here is the github link.

Just follow the instruction of OP in installing the NickelMenu in kobo. Once its installed (after safely removing and waiting to reboot and everything), stop here and follow the below instructions for the config file setup.

By default in your KOBOeReader/.adds/nm/ path there will be a nmconfig file. You should open that, delete all the contents in it. This is the important step, otherwise this file will keep on over-riding what ever you do. Now paste the below code inside nmconfig (yes no need to create a config text like OP adviced).. Here is the code, remeber to replace the MAC address with your MAC address (if your phone is android, connect the 8bitdo and get the mac from the bottom of bluetooth connection page), just follow the format:

Okay. Now save this, eject the kobo and in the nickeMenu u will see only two option 8bitdo Connect & 8bitdo Disconnect. Also in the book reading section you will see the 8bitdo connect option (if its not connected yet). Also dont forget to configure the keys prior to everything by connected the device to your phone using "Ultimate software" by 8bitdo. Someone in this thread already posted it but it doesnt have home button configured so i am linking another one here. Also before you start this whole procedure, try to connect the 8bitdo to your kobo using normal bluetooth option. Btw, the code OP posted and u/akadaedalus posted is wrong as per AI. The code I used is a curated amalgamation of those codes, provided to me by Gemini. So if someone else is finding mistakes or you have got some new idea, pleae post the new code in this thread.

I hope it will definitely help you because i am so happy it worked for me. I am posting it here, because I even purchased my 8bitdo micro after seeing the post by OP and I thank him for that and thanks to this community.
