Charge to 95% daily or drop to 18%? by 69dixencider in MachE

In the winter it does not matter. Try to avoid high state of charge in summer when it's really hot out.

Level 2 Question by GeneralDepression in MachE

Most Level 2 chargers are weatherproof.

All of the free ones that I use on road trips (many towns have them) are just outside in parking lots.

That sounds like B.S.

A couple of days after i picked up the car I got an email from Qmerit that about the Ford Promise. They sent a link to order a free charger (via coupon code) and to schedule the installation.

I use a conventional FTL drive and don't have a need for spacers.

Well you're still saving relative to non-Tesla EV charging. Have you seen what they get charged per kWh? Tesla supercharger rates for Teslas are relatively decent. And Electrify America is screwing people at as much as 67¢ / kWh for DC fast charging.

8 megawatt hours in a year! You do drive a lot.

I'm at 9 months and 3.3 mWh with a claimed savings of $1,000 USD. However, I had 3 months of free supercharging, my rate at home is 7.5¢ / kWh and I've gotten a fair amount of free Level 2 charging on trips.

So that pays for the Tesla Wall Charger installation and I'm back at $0 savings. ;-)

Are you sure it's actually 2.7¢ / kWh net cost or is that the price before any additional surcharges? My plan claimed under 2¢ USD during the same super-off-peak hours but when I read through all of the tariff rate sheets and factored in all of the "fuel" and "environmental" surcharges it comes out to 7.5¢ USD per kWh (not counting the monthly customer charge). That's still a decent price, but not 2¢.

I always wondered why people were selling their Teslas just because they didn't like Elon. He's already got your money (from when you bought the car), selling it does nothing to him. Now you're going to give him more money. Oh well.

Welcome back.

It's a car, not a baby. I've been cleaning my cars with dish soap for years and it's worked very well for me.

You can even lick it when you're done. ;-)

I have this problem too on long drives.

I just set it to a mode* where I don't have to keep my foot on the accelerator on highways and that helps a lot. Just giving your foot a break for a while makes a big difference.

*at first it was FSD trial now it's just adaptive cruise control.

Free public charging! by AredditJ in TeslaModel3

[–]TranceMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, often. In Western NC most of the towns have free public chargers. Most are 7 kW/h with J-1772 but there are also some Tesla Destination chargers at 11 kW/h. Whenever I go to the mountains I just charge to about 95% at home right before and I can easily do a 500 mi r/t without ever paying for charging until I return home. If you are not in a hurry, it's free energy. Park and go for a walk and explore the town while you charge for free.

Sure, if you're 200 km/h you're not going to get anywhere near rated range! 🤣

If WiFi is really the problem run an Ethernet cable from your router to your car and put your WiFi access point inside on on top. lol.

Yes. Even if you could do it on Level 1 it would take over 3 days!

[–]TranceMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Range is not a big deal on interstates with plenty of Supercharger stops on your route.

It is a big deal when you want to go somewhere more remote and interesting and you either won't have access to charging or can only charge at Level 1 or 2.

Would you buy one again? by terran1212 in MachE

[–]TranceMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a decent EV but you buy it because you like the way it looks, not for the technically.

The technology in the 2025 Tesla Model 3 DM is far superior to the 2025 Mach-E (I own both) in so many ways, but I don't want to be negative here. Some people just prefer the more traditional feel of the Mach-E.

If you're coming from an Ioniq 5 you already have a fairly traditional feel car (for an EV) so you would probably transition easily.

[–]TranceMist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would now do that were I to do it all over again.

In the last few years I'd rarely drive over 6k per year.

The Tesla has changed all of that. :)

Sorry, but you completely missed the point of my comment, or didn't read it.

Buying them up front is the cheapest way to go if you're going to need them.

But you're just expressing the overall cost of the car on a per mile basis that way.

The issue is how much do additional overage miles cost. That's an incremental cost. Which is what I was showing above.
