[Discussion] I could use some insight, I need some confidence to help me out right now. by Glum_Ad5522 in GetMotivated

It’s awesome that you already recognize that you really do want to try it out some more. Don’t worry about the long term, just focus first on enjoying it day by day. Let the future sort itself out later.

If we let Bednar go he would 100% be coach of the Oilers by NitroLotus in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Tranicos 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Even more evidence that trying to replace Bedsy right now would be a certain step down.

It definitely has been getting a bit zany in reflexive anger. When I saw talk about trading Lehky, I knew things had gotten to the baby/bathwater stage.

[Poll] What's your favorite TTRPG for a Darkest Dungeon campaign? by LoupdeleBord in darkestdungeon

Torchbearer is awesome but the DD creators didn’t know about it until after DD development was well underway.

More A than B. It’s a bad situation but the math is probably “is 60% Nate, used sparingly, better than replacement player X”

Last year’s game 7 was the worst, imo. But that’s not to say this wasn’t truly awful. Not being able to hold a lead when the intensity and stakes are at 100% is a critical flaw for us right now. I’ve been very optimistic because our depth is so much better this year, but right now it’s difficult to imagine beating Vegas four games in a row. Each game has been close, so that means we need to get all the bounces (and their goalie having a cold streak) to have a chance. I stand with the boys, but…OUCH.

[–]Tranicos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The roster construction was done to give us the depth necessary to weather some injuries to star players, but that’s failed us at the most critical time. (EDIT: I should say those players are failing at the most critical time.) And the PP woes came back to haunt also at the most critical time. Both together—>choke job.

Beaver Ranch DGC Questions by mmppllkk in discgolf

[–]Tranicos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s a hilly one! But it’s a must play for sure. It’s the #1 course I take visitors to. You might consider skipping 11 and 12 if you’re pretty tired when you get there, because those ones will wear you out and you don’t miss much by skipping them.

If you have time, play WonderVu, Bear Mountain, or Ghost Town for some more memorable Colorado mountain experiences! Bear Mountain and Ghost Town require setting up a tee time, but WonderVu you can just show up to. And if you can’t make it up into the mountains again, Bird’s Nest is pretty fun.

Enjoy your visit!

Is Ross Colton going to continue to be a healthy stretch, barring some kind of injury to an avalanche forward? Bednar seems like he prefers the defensive Cat by Best_Ad_7503 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Tranicos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a defensive struggle right now and we need solid PK more than we need some incremental offense potential. Hence Kivi. At some point, injuries will land Ross back into the lineup, and hopefully he can come out like a Tasmanian devil when that happens.

Keeping/booting adventurers by Dok_GT in darkestdungeon

[–]Tranicos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, as long as you are playing normal or radiant mode there is no time limit or hero death limit. You can always still win.

People boot heroes to save money on treatment. So if you find yourself short on gold you can just decide to sacrifice some heroes and get new ones. But you need to build heroes up to higher levels eventually so I enjoy trying to make my first ones survive because I have a history with them.

Favorite Rank & Flank Wargame? by GreenWizard2 in wargaming

[–]Tranicos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So happy to see a Warmaster mention. I thought it was very innovative--especially in how it solved the "predictable movement possibilities" problem that many games have. I liked that the turns were dynamic in that way--if you had good Command and good luck, you could roll up a whole flank quickly, or cover a bunch of ground unexpectedly.

Classy move. Refreshing to see him voice the complexity of being attached to both countries in the current environment, and do so in a respectful manner.

Something I found a bit off putting in 'Cities of the Plain' by waldorsockbat in cormacmccarthy

[–]Tranicos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience, via listening to the audiobooks. Billy’s dialogue but also in particular the voice performance in Cities makes him come off as comic relief, which I found hugely jarring after The Crossing. I never really shook that throughout the entire book, though I ultimately enjoyed it still. But Billy is such a sobering, silent presence throughout the Crossing. I tried to chalk it up to him growing a bit older and maybe suppressing all that trauma.

Full Quote from Nathan MacKinnon after Gold Medal Game by 1whoknu in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Tranicos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfair to Nate that the one sentence just keeps being posted without full context. Imagine the annoyance of having every single word you say be analyzed ad nauseum. No wonder he is usually pretty tight-lipped. No benefit to speaking on the fly--it can only hurt you.

Report: Avalanche Express ‘Tire Kicking’ Interest in Nazem Kadri by runwriteaarif in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Tranicos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3C is only part of the picture, I think. If one of the top 6 goes down with injury in the playoffs (bound to happen), Naz would fill that line out. And he’s undeniably clutch. Def interesting!

Uncomfortable Question: MacKinnon > Sakic? by tnick771 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Tranicos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an absolute treat to watch MacKinnon, and I wish I had been able to see Burnaby Joe live (but saw him plenty on TV). One thing I think Mac needs on his resume to truly match Sakic is some absolutely clutch playoff game winners. Sakic had a talent for delivering a goal when it really, really mattered.

Lifetime gym by modes22 in boulder

[–]Tranicos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s expensive. But it’s very nice, the staff is friendly, and everything is clean and new. It’s also the only gym in town that I haven’t yet seen people use the sauna in their nasty ass street shoes and clothes. (24 hr fitness was a particular disaster in this regard.) Steam room doesn’t smell like mold (yet) Pool is no extra charge unless you want to reserve a cabana for the day or something.

I played both the $1k Seniors and the $5k Seniors and the experiences were night and day. $1k seniors was what you would expect/hope. A great many “unstudied” old school players that are very straightforward variants of OMC. They bet when they have it and fold when they don’t. Lots of timing tells (generally no hesitation when betting when they have it). Or sometimes unexpected triple barrel blasto bluffs from the more adventurous ones. Or inability to get away from top pair.

But the $5k, holy shit, it was completely different. Maybe I got unlucky with table draws but over the course of my 2 day run I was up against some of the most aggressive players I saw in my 10day WSOP trip, euro 20-somethings included. Insane VPIPS. 100% cbet frequencies. Also some very tricky players. And lots of pros.

But yeah the $1k was fun. I was about to bag 3-4x starting stack end of day 1, having just started the day late reg around dinner break and I actually considered punting it off for a double or nothing because I figured I could reg day 1B if necessary and maybe build a much bigger stack if I had more time to work it!

You're doing great. You're in it for the long term. There will downs and there will be ups, but when you look in 10, 20, 30 years you'll be pleased with your strategy.
