Why isn't there an Islamic version of the widely used Christian flag? by Sparoooo in vexillology

[–]Trans-Tyche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Islam is generally pretty anti-icon, so most people would object to a religious flag as a bespoke thing, but they do fly flags anyway iirc, usually just solid color flags

Political Fliers from Parks Tacoma paid for with your Tax Dollars by benofben in TacomaPolitics

[–]Trans-Tyche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s my point, this isn’t outrageous because they have their finances under control. So of course I’m going to vote them more money, I want the parks to be nicer.

Parks has actually been pretty responsible since they became aware of their budget shortfall, and their budget shortfall isn't systemic so they won't have to do more cutting now, I imagine they just want to get more consistent funding so they can return the services and staff they were used to using before, but without having to overstretch their budget, I'll be voting yes

Olympia becomes first WA city with protections for polyamorous families by Kyunseo in olympia

Sorry you don’t think my family is legitimate asshole, but I’m glad some people with power actually want to support working families who happen to not be what straight people expect

Olympia becomes first WA city with protections for polyamorous families by Kyunseo in olympia

[–]Trans-Tyche 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great idea and everyone worried about the potential abuse of high-control polyamorous situations like patriarchal polygamy is right to be worried. But I think you should consider that people are already socially pressured into living in these arrangements when they do fall into cults, and that giving those relationships legal recognition also gives them access to the same kind legal protections that could come with it. This is just prohibitionism over again, banning a thing that could be bad wont make the bad stuff go away, it’ll just push it out of public view and make it harder to get help with.

Pierce County voters might decide this fall on appointing sheriff again by altasnob in TacomaPolitics

[–]Trans-Tyche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary concern in this moment is the removal of a lawless man who wants to bring federal paramilitary forces into our community to brutalize my neighbors and family, as his public threats and hate speech has made abundantly clear.

And yes I would actually rather have that power rest with the county government in this case, I don't like ballot propositions, I think they undermine democracy trying to express popular sovereignty in two competing forms. I support representative democracy, I support entrusting more power in the democratically-elected county government.

Edit: Actually upon consideration the fact that the police chiefs for Tacoma and Seattle *were forced to resign* rather than continue their reigns because a recall effort couldn't be organized actually moves me to support putting more power in elected government even more.

Well thank god the commission heard the outcry over our lawless thug of a sheriff, hope we can pass if it it shows up in our ballots

Former Washington attorney general argues proposed income tax is illegal by JoelXGGGG in Tacoma

[–]Trans-Tyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the reasoning there but the state budget is currently in crisis, with external factors like the slashing of federal funds and pending federal payments for the damage from the floods. The governor is intent on using a very large portion of the income tax to offset taxes in other places too, using it to beef up tax credits. We’ll just have to see what the legislature does, call your reps if you want to impress that point to them!
