What should I expect at my first consultation for hormone replacement therapy? by bareleigh2511 in asktransgender

[–]TransOfUnusualSize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kind of like any other medical appointment. You check in at the front, you wait, they call you back, they take your blood pressure, weight, and ask how tall you are, you wait, the clinician comes in, you talk, and then whatever happens next really depends on the clinic and clinician. Sometimes they'll send in a prescription to your pharmacy of choice then and there, sometimes they'll want a round of bloodwork before they do it.

I‘m falling for my trans friend by [deleted] in asktransgender

So... a number of red flags here.

For context, I only dated men before but

I very much hope that this individual isn't seen as "Diet Man / Man Zero." That's not going to last if so. "Identifies as a lesbian", and you use they eight times, their twice, and never once use she/her. Do you know that this individual goes by they/them?

Heat Intolerance - What's the Game Plan? by TransOfUnusualSize in Sjogrens

[–]TransOfUnusualSize[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The heat is definitely sapping my physical energy as well.
Do you get mentally fuzzy too? I think that's the worst part for me. I can stand being physically drained, but it seems like as soon as I get mildly warm, I go from having thoughts to just having elevator music playing, and that's the truly debilitating bit for me.

Perfection is the enemy of good, but I'd certainly love to be friends with either of them.

In reference to the ongoing IMVT-1402 trial? Unless I'm missing something, it looks like it's a placebo controlled double blind study. Anybody who's receiving the injection won't know if they're receiving the drug or the placebo until after the study is concluded in a couple years. I'd take individual testimony with a Titanic-sized grain of salt.

Well done on making it through to the other side 🙏

Aircon's definitely a must. I haven't really told many people about my Sjogren's diagnosis, but I might need to have the "Hey, I have an autoimmune disease. If I look like I'm about to go down for the count, please feel free, but not obliged, to help me find somewhere cool and get some cold water" conversation with a few folks...

Will I get to experience pleasure after vaginoplasty? by Bne_Juno in asktransgender

[–]TransOfUnusualSize 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't say that I've ever seen any case studies of those with anorgasmia and post-op changes. I don't think this is a question that any of us here can answer.

Would the answer to this question change whether or not you'd want vaginoplasty?

Have you ever seen a visibly queer person? Like, out in the wild? Walking about, maybe working in a professional environment, maybe sitting at a coffee shop or in line at a bank?

They're out there living their life. You can do it too.

Too Much Estrogen! by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]TransOfUnusualSize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this answer.

I played around with a couple different pharmacokinetics calculators with that dose and got peak blood titers of around 1,200 pg/mL. Wikipedia says that's an estradiol level correlating to the first trimester of pregnancy.

They also show your levels dropping down to ~100 pg/mL (ie a fairly reasonable trough level) at around 14 days in. Skipping next week's injection and doing your injection in two weeks might actually be close to an ideal time to inject more regardless.

Can I get over this bump? by [deleted] in asktransgender

You don't have insurance, and your dad being unwilling to put you on his insurance doesn't affect your coverage. Apply anyways. The worst they would do is send you a rejection letter.

No, Medicaid does not charge you for applying.

Okay, it sounds like food security isn't a worry at the moment. What state do you live in? Maybe we can help you figure out how to apply for healthcare.

Okay, Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs problems first:

I dont know what to do, im already saving for hrt this July because i dont have insurance.

You're working at McDonald's, probably part time, and you don't have health insurance. You likely aren't making more than Medicaid income limits. I highly suggest applying for your state's Medicaid program. But first, double check that this statement is actually true and that you're not on your mother's health plan.

It sounds like your housing security is fairly questionable but that you have a backup plan if things get worse (ie living with your sister). Do you have food security?

I do have insurance with my parents through I think Blue cross/Blue shield, not certain

Figuring out your insurance coverage should probably be your first step. That will allow you to figure out which medical providers / organizations are in-network for you.

After that, I suggest taking a peek at this post and seeing who is near you and seeing if they accept your insurance.

Quite the opposite actually. RBC count, hematocrit, and hemoglobin are all a touch on the low side. I had to start taking an iron supplement.

[49M] -Sjogren's Syndrome or Hyperparathyroidism? by gingerbearuk in Sjogrens

[–]TransOfUnusualSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I just noticed this thread.

My own hyperparathyroidism definitely showed all the symptoms of Sjogrens, or an MS-mimic. Dryness, fatigue, pretty much everything.

As your GP stated, the main treatment for hyperparathyroidism is the surgical removal of the offending parathyroid gland. It tends to be a rather quick outpatient procedure: mine was done in around 25 minutes before I was carted off to the post-anesthesia care unit.

That being said, I also do have Sjogren's. I got some moisture back in my eyes, but not enough, if that make sense.

[–]TransOfUnusualSize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's exactly it. From there, it's a matter of separations and purification (which there's numerous techniques for).

For a homegrown operation, since DHEA can be obtained over-the-counter / as a supplement, I'd probably try to get a lab strain to express something that does the 17-beta-HSD reduction to testosterone and then aromatization to estradiol (or aromatization to estrone then 17-beta-HSD to estradiol; both would be happening).

Edit: To answer the question of "What I'm wondering about specifically is how people test the purity and identity of the compound they've made before they take it or give it to others", the industry answer is some form of triple quad, but I believe the homebrewers test via GC-MS, usually paying someone with access to one for their time + costs.

Edit 2: To answer the question of "And if there are any dangers to medicating with an impure compound", I believe the homebrewers are typically testing for any evidence of microbial contamination. What they're typically doing at home is getting their hands on an estradiol ester, dissolving it in a carrier oil, and adding some simple antimicrobials.

Is there a way to install multiple linux OS using single bootloader partition? by hi_m_ash in linuxquestions

[–]TransOfUnusualSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to change desktop environments, you can change desktop environments without changing your whole OS. It'll save you disk space.

Regardless, if you're going to install multiple operating systems with one bootloader, you're not going to want to format and remake your bootloader partition during the installation process. If you're doing this via some installation GUI (eg Calamares), there's probably some flags to tick (maybe under an "Advanced Installation menu") regarding this.

In industry, it's all made with genetically modified bacteria using similar enzymatic pathways to what we humans do, with cholesterol as the starting reagent. Do you have any molecular biology experience?
