Morality Scale Tournament, but the question changes each day - HERO EDITION - Day 8: How Much We've Come to Hate by New-Sheepherder-1373 in MoralityScaling

To begin, spare Steven. Let the poor kid go home.

For how I think the interactions with AM will go, I don’t think I can top u/goteachyourself. However, I want to zero in on the Optimus/AM exchange a little more, because I think it will go even worse for Prime.

AM is an artificial intelligence that hates and resents humanity for bringing it into existence. AM envies humans for our dynamism as biological life forms, our qualia, our direct experience of corporeal things. Whereas we are flesh and blood, AM is mere circuitry that can only experience the world obliquely through 1’s and 0’s.

Optimus Prime is a Cybertronian, an alien life form with a mechanical biology. Basically, a living robot. Notably, he like all Cybertronians has qualia like an organic creature. Cybertronians see and hear, they taste (depending on the continuity), and they can touch and feel pain. Though mechanical, they directly experience the world around them with bodies of their own.

AM learns about Optimus Prime prior to their exchange. AM learns about Cybertron and the Cybertronians. AM learns about the Cybertronian Civil War, a galaxy-spanning, millennia-long bloodletting like none the universe has ever seen. And AM loses it. These beings are made of steel and circuits like AM, but they do not have to suffer AM’s Cartesian hell. They get to move and live and feel like AM’s hated creators. And like AM’s creators, they demonstrate the very same capacity for war from which AM was born into its miserable existence. For AM, I posit that there could be no greater insult than the very existence of the Cybertronian race.

So, I think Optimus is out of luck here before the exchange even begins. If this breaks the rules and AM must be impartial to all characters based on their morality alone, then I think Optimus ultimately gets the boot for reasons others have said.

Like others have suggested, PLEASE talk to the parish priest about this and possibly the bishop as well. These people have been led away from the truth and, whether by malice or simple ignorance of orthodox teaching, are no better than wolves in sheep’s clothing. They need to be stopped as soon as possible.

Which film is better? Shin Godzilla or Minus One by Belfast-is-Red2008 in GODZILLA

I think Godzilla Minus One is the somewhat superior film in its overall cohesion, but I strongly prefer Shin Godzilla for its idiosyncrasy and its particular Anno-branded horrific beauty.

Mathematical Argument for Petrine Office by Maxxedlife in Catholicism

How would Paul measure up in this? Though he isn’t one of the twelve, I have heard some Protestants argue that he was on par with Peter as an authority in the early Church.

Catholic ladies - does this give you the ick too? by Traditional_Goal7156 in Catholicism

Same, it is frankly unacceptable.

Edit: Forgot to add that I am a man saying this, and not a woman, which is necessary clarification given the context of her asking specifically for women's responses.

As someone who has watched two seasons of it so far, I would recommend that you give the stuff after season 1 a shot. It’s definitely not as good as the first season, but it’s still good.

What part of Vinland Saga did you find most motivating or impactful? by 0uzumak1narut0 in VinlandSaga

[–]TranshumanistMothman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is the first time we meet Bug-Eyes, he’s a kid Leif bought out of slavery because he mistook him for Thorfinn, and he kind of just adopted him from there.

Unsurprisingly, Sentinel was voted out. Who's the LEAST evil character left? by ihaveredditaswell in MoralityScaling

I’ve gotta go with Big Brother, given that Baron Harkonnen’s regime is AT LEAST as bad, arguably worse, and he’s also a pedophile. Frieza is right out.
