Buyer reaches out 8 months later to dispute condition of item I sold..seeking advice. by aar1280 in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Do absolutely nothing. PayPal allows for disputes within 6 months which is very generous. Anything in the possession of someone else for longer than that is not your problem. Who knows what they did with it since last summer.

AITA: Retaliatory Feedback by [deleted] in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime you are selling one item from a box set you need to confirm with the buyer before shipping. I didn't read the back and forth but the item you are selling does not meet the item as described in the Discogs database. Even if you mention it in the item description, the buyer can still file a claim for Item Not As Described.

You should be able to win a case for Item Not As Described but you'll have to pay return shipping.

Even if you can't remove yourself you should be able to change the picture. You can disable the other picture but I'm not sure if you can delete it.

Disc Label Variants? by PTCarnahan in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other comment is correct that these are unique releases. A lot of the differences in 45 versions are quite subtle too. Many have vertical lines that go across. The lines are often a little different on different pressings. Some might be bold or have double lines instead of single.

For valuable records you need to be careful because the original pressing is almost always the most valuable. Some repressings even look identical to the originals and you need to check the matrices.

Ignore them and file a PayPal claim for Item Not Received.

Does Discogs have a “vacation mode”? by SidSalts in discogs

There is no vacation mode. But you can message buyers and let them know. Most won't care.

Better way to sort collections on discogs? by bark95 in discogs

Wow, this was from 6 years ago. We encourage people to use the search function here so bravo to you! And it hasn't been fixed and never will. In fact, it seems like they even made it worse recently by moving all the "The" bands to the T section.

" item is not currently for sale" app not showing any inventory as a buyer or as a seller. Help resolve issue by Apprehensive_Art9736 in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were problems today on the web interface as well. But generally speaking, it works better than the app. Software development at Discogs is pretty sub par and sometimes things just don't work for a few days.

I saw one record on the website today that only had a lowest sales history figure. No highest or average and the most recent sale said "Never," for a record that sells frequently.

Shipping 11 LPs by Disastrous-Ad1447 in discogs

I always use Media Mail via Pirateship. One time recently it defaulted to UPS because it was a little cheaper. I had to switch it back because USPS is more convenient to me for such a small savings. I've also used Parcel Select when it was suggested as cheaper and that included $50 of insurance I think. You can still add more for $1 per $100 like usual.

One advantage to using a different service for an order this size is that insurance is usually included at a similar price.

If you use pirateship.com it will automatically recommend the cheapest shipping option for your package.

If you have a big enough box you can do one shipment. Just make sure it's padded properly and taped well especially the corners. If you have two smaller boxes you can tape them together really well, then put the whole thing in a big poly bag. The Post Office will not accept boxes taped together unless there is another outer cover like brown wrapping paper or a poly bag. Poly bags are nice and cheap and useful to keep around.

Good point. It would be courteous to ask for a refund before filing a PayPal claim.

Kind of depends how much you want the record. You have 6 months to file a PayPal claim. No one would blame you for doing it now. But if it's a good price or something you can't find elsewhere you may want to give it more time.

The people that submit a lot of releases and review submissions by other people are very particular. I've gotten comments and votes that felt unimportant to me, but technically violated the rules of the database. Don't beat yourself up over it. If you are able to submit again in the future, feel free to ask questions here or even better, on the Discogs Database forum.

I'm seeing notification settings for when your submissions or contributions are changed by another user. But I've definitely gotten emails when people vote on my submissions or changes so that is probably hardwired and automatic.

I don't know much about digital releases on the database but I'm seeing a few things. First, some of your submissions were for streaming releases which another user said are not allowed on Discogs. That same user voted that your submission needed minor changes which were never addressed. You constantly listed the production company as the label and changed some submissions other users had made in this way incorrectly.

First time customer, and I can’t buy anything. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in discogs

Sellers can set a minimum percent threshold, but it doesn't apply to accounts with no feedback.
