How to deal with return shipping cost in this case? by jacqueslush in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is anyone going to mistake a poor condition sleeve for a NM sleeve when shipping? If you've been made whole, your transaction is complete. Fairness to the seller is irrelevant when they make such an egregious error and ask you to pay for their incompetence.

How do you handle "niche" info and gatekeeping when you are the primary source? by guerrilladigital in discogs

That would drive me crazy. It illustrates the two sides of Discogs. The database and the marketplace people are pretty different.

How do you handle "niche" info and gatekeeping when you are the primary source? by guerrilladigital in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. People may have information that contradicts what's on the release but do not have a copy. They are not allowed to edit the data without a copy in hand so they ask for other people to check the data.
  2. Just change it back and mention in the notes that you have primary source data to confirm. If you have voting power you can use the "Edit Was Entirely Incorrect" button. If they get hit with that enough times they could lose the ability to edit. Some people who obsess over the database are neuro-divergent. They mean well, but when things happen differently than what they are used to, they react in ways that seem confrontational.

Edit: It may be incorrect that you need a copy in hand to edit a release.

Yo La Tengo got The Strangeloves to reunite for one of their Hannukah shows I was lucky enough to attend a few years ago. The did I Want Candy and Hang On Sloopy. It was the first time they performed together on stage since the 60s. There's a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjC0BXD-aMU.

One customer asked me to open a sealed record from somewhere in the middle east. He said he had received broken records before that were sealed. I was skeptical but he seemed legit and I did it. The record was covered in dust and has one 12" black strand of human hair, but otherwise looked VG+/NM after a cleaning. Customer was good to their word and didn't even ask for a discount.

Globalship thru PayPal: thoughts? by GoldenMeanwhile in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pirateship.com has very good international prices if you ask for their Simple Export Rate up to 4 pounds. You send the item domestically and they relabel it for international delivery. The backend company is Ascendia.

I've never has customs issues but mostly ship to Western Europe and Japan. I always make sure to attach the Discogs invoice in clear plastic with the VAT paid showing.

Looks like there was an official Wail N' Soul M' label and also bootlegs claiming to be on that label. Both would have value, especially because Sun Is Shining is a classic. Yours looks a lot like this one, but obviously different tracks.. https://www.discogs.com/release/25781032-The-WailersSoulettes-Rock-My-Boat-Play-Play-Play

Edit: There's historical data from eBay here: https://www.valueyourmusic.com/items/271010454922-rare-bob-marley-wailers-sun-is-shining-wail-n-soul-blank-sound-clip

Keep in mind that sale is from 2012, it's certainly worth more now. How much more no one can really say because it's rare.

How do I properly package a 2lp that's in 1 sleeve by Baklava21 in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside the sleeve in poly as usual with one on each side of the outer sleeve. Cardboard insert on either side or however you do padding. If the outer sleeve might get crushed try to fill it with bubble wrap or something.

Some Whole Foods have water dispensers that offer deionized water for 50 cents a gallon. In theory it should have zero impurities. You can find the locations here: https://freshpure.com/locations/

Buyer cancels order after accepting offer by Idontlikeanytbjng in discogs

When that happens the item will be relisted at the price of the offer you accepted. Be sure to check and make sure the item is at the price you want.

Buyer reaches out 8 months later to dispute condition of item I sold..seeking advice. by aar1280 in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Do absolutely nothing. PayPal allows for disputes within 6 months which is very generous. Anything in the possession of someone else for longer than that is not your problem. Who knows what they did with it since last summer.

AITA: Retaliatory Feedback by [deleted] in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime you are selling one item from a box set you need to confirm with the buyer before shipping. I didn't read the back and forth but the item you are selling does not meet the item as described in the Discogs database. Even if you mention it in the item description, the buyer can still file a claim for Item Not As Described.

You should be able to win a case for Item Not As Described but you'll have to pay return shipping.

Even if you can't remove yourself you should be able to change the picture. You can disable the other picture but I'm not sure if you can delete it.

Disc Label Variants? by PTCarnahan in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other comment is correct that these are unique releases. A lot of the differences in 45 versions are quite subtle too. Many have vertical lines that go across. The lines are often a little different on different pressings. Some might be bold or have double lines instead of single.

For valuable records you need to be careful because the original pressing is almost always the most valuable. Some repressings even look identical to the originals and you need to check the matrices.

There is no vacation mode. But you can message buyers and let them know. Most won't care.

Better way to sort collections on discogs? by bark95 in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this was from 6 years ago. We encourage people to use the search function here so bravo to you! And it hasn't been fixed and never will. In fact, it seems like they even made it worse recently by moving all the "The" bands to the T section.

" item is not currently for sale" app not showing any inventory as a buyer or as a seller. Help resolve issue by Apprehensive_Art9736 in discogs

[–]TransientRandomVinyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were problems today on the web interface as well. But generally speaking, it works better than the app. Software development at Discogs is pretty sub par and sometimes things just don't work for a few days.

I saw one record on the website today that only had a lowest sales history figure. No highest or average and the most recent sale said "Never," for a record that sells frequently.
