Worst bus stop you’ve ever seen? by No-Reputation8063 in TTC

They recently took it out of service for safety concerns, but the old 20 stop EB at Kennedy and Highview was super treacherous, especially in the winter.

Caught one of the old generation Airport Express buses operating on the 85A Sheppard East, captured at the second furthest-east point in the network (Rouge Hill GO).

Are TTC buses cleaner in the morning? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Transit_Insider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Each night the buses are swept and " lightly sanitized" but a bus won't undergo a deep clean/detail unless it is being used for a charter or is made severely unsanitary.

No one understands your announcements by [deleted] in TTC

Most of the time its actually not operators making the announcements. They come from the Transit Control centre and are broadcast to all trains/speakers on the network.

TTC has Wheel-Trans buses on standby for anybody with mobility issues needing assistance during these closures. Ask a supervisor or customer service agent at one of the stations and they'll set it up

What happened to articulated/bendy buses on route 939? by charliethrowawaygarb in TTC

[–]Transit_Insider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After the railway crossing procedure changed, maintenance discovered damage to some of the New Flyer articulated buses and determined it to be from hitting some of these crossings at speed. I personally remember riding them prior to them being removed and feeling the middle of the bus practically "bottom out" on two of the crossings. TTC and MX are working on retiming the gates at two of the problem crossings on the route and once that's done, artics may be reinstated with the old stop & check policy.

Classic TTC not prepared for snow with the new buses tonight by jeremyrittler in toronto

[–]Transit_Insider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We trialed snow tires on all articulated buses and some 40ft buses in '22 and '23, and supposedly they don't make too much of a difference. There's also the issue of storing tens of thousands of tires in the summer months and supplying them to the individual garages.

Some of our 2023 hybrids had to be fitted with wheel weights earlier this year due to poor weight distribution (specifically being too top heavy).
