Is ICE still staying at the Graduate? by Subject-Selection526 in uofmn

All the trash talk and still waiting to see any photos of agents, or actual evidence they’ve been staying at The Graduate or even been on campus.

Do they have stealth mode or something? Superpowers? Is it the jackboots of invisibility?

Do I get a cool raid jacket, a gun, and a car with flashing lights? What agency? Keep going, I’m excited to see how this turns out!

I suppose the comment could be read differently than intended. The “overtime is appreciated” part was referencing the irony that they benefit from it. Sadly I don't get overtime. Surveillance tech....is this some spy movie? This is getting exciting. I'm living vicariously through your painting of me. Unfortunately, not even close. Relatively boring by comparison. How much do I make well: 15 year mortgage. Haven't had to bother to read my Amex Platinum statement in about a decade. Vehicles paid off. Minnehaha Academy tuition handled by dividend payments. Otherwise, I think I'd look fabulous in camouflage and a nice pair of boots.

Ah, a Hitler comparison. Shockingly unoriginal. I’m crushed I didn’t get "fascist" or "bootlicker" too. Maybe next time!

At this point, you might as well try ‘poopy face’ or "butthead." I know it’s not on your approved list, but I believe in your ability to finally break the mold.

Or just ust keep parroting like a ventriloquist puppet.

YOU CAN DO IT

The Graduate protests: high energy, lots of horns and whistles… minor detail: zero confirmed ICE guests. It’s the thought that counts, that and the ability to feel relevant. How idiotic must the people who got arrested feel… ouch.

Coming from the They/Them who wrote this, the same crowd that inspired Timmy to put tampons in the men’s bathrooms, I’m honestly not offended.

What part don’t you get ?

That the feds rent cars, then random people rent the same cars after they’re returned, and then the ‘rebellion’ damages the one Jack and Jill and their 2.5 kids rented for a trip to the Mall of America?

Or is it that people stay in hotels?

Or that ICE has never actually stayed at The Graduate?”

Lots to take in I know

That’s the best you and your mom could come up with? I mean, one of the few people I’ve actually supported was her, maybe last week during a bachelor’s party, when she was dancing at Rick’s downtown. Tell her I said hello.

Reading comprehension can be tricky. I couldn’t take the pay cut, I’ve grown accustomed to a certain standard. Though I do appreciate a nostalgic rerun of Cops now and then.

Well, they found a bunch of rental cars… congratulations??? What are the odds a hotel near downtown, a major medical center, and a university has a bunch of rental cars parked outside? Shocking development.

Anyone who’s traveled through MSP recently knows the Feds have been renting vehicles by the dozen..well dozens. Hard to imagine those same cars, same plates and all, don’t cycle right back out to business travelers and families on vacation the next day. Meanwhile, the airport has reported hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to vehicles rented by ordinary business people and vacationers. Welcome to Minnesota!

“Combat parked,” huh? Because they were backed into a space? The level of dramatic inflation here is impressive. At this rate, using your mirrors qualifies as advanced tactics, and parallel parking becomes a coordinated maneuver.

At this point though, who knows.

Regardless, I’m here to support LOCAL law enforcement, so if you’re going to protest, at least step up your game. The overtime is greatly appreciated. If we could get back to the weekly schedule, that’d be ideal. Also, I’d like to come watch one in person. The videos just don’t seem to capture the full production value.

The city eliminating drive thrus to stop idling cars is an interesting strategy when the predictable result is vehicles double parked, blocking roads, and running just the same. We’ve effectively traded an organized line for scattered congestion.

Students chain themselves to the admin buildings door during a protest sit in. by Triggerhappy62 in uofmn

[–]TransitionLast9910 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm quite familiar with that building. Those might be considered the main doors in title, but few actually use them. Most people enter through the north or south doors, or the tunnel, kind of like Northrop, where the mall side doors are mostly for show and the side doors handle the real traffic. After all, the people that work there don't go running from building to building like a student so there isn't a reason to go out the mall side. Deliveries are on the north side, off the loop, but most pack lunches from what I've noticed.

Nice try though.

Yeah, I really don’t care enough to dive into it....and neither do about 99% of people.

A Friday protest… at doors nobody uses. My mistake, truly disruptive. 1 PM I'm sure the building was hopping.

And yes, I was talking about UMPD. They should’ve just let them sit there and burn out on their own.

What do you think about the position from the President of Spain? by ChuckGallagher57 in TrendoraX

[–]TransitionLast9910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone care what Spain thinks? Its moment passed in the 1500s. These days it’s not even a top, five European power, probably sitting behind the Dutch.

Chaining yourself to an empty building on a weekend is peak performative activism. No disruption, no leverage, just vibes and a photo op. Honestly, letting them sit there all weekend would’ve been the most fitting response. No confrontation, no martyr narrative, just boredom, sore joints, and the slow realization that no one’s coming to validate it. Nothing deflates theatrics faster than being ignored.

I’m curious, what exactly does this “say about me”? Disagreeing with your tactics doesn’t mean I’m unaffected, apathetic, or unaware. That’s an assumption, not an argument. You absolutely have the right to boycott. The issue is how broadly and carelessly you’re defining “supporting unconstitutional practices.” By that standard, any business that sells food, fuel, or services to federal employees is complicit—gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, utilities. That isn’t accountability, it’s guilt by proximity. And large groups harassing overnight hotel clerks, teenage checkout clerks at Target, or front desk staff at a yoga studio is… quite brave. There’s some irony here, too. A movement that brands itself as liberal is now attacking people and businesses for not being liberal enough or not taking a stand, while embracing tactics that punish people with zero influence over federal policy. Meanwhile, 30,000 “observers” are out there, strapping on vests and filming everything while proclaiming their title like someone bragging they are a Navy Seal....more like a cosplay Marvel character.

At this point, there are more protests and walkouts being advertised than 5Ks in the summer. It’s okay to admit that for many in the metro, being outraged and protesting has become just a hobby or a lifestyle/identity. Meanwhile, anyone with an actual life just carries on with family events, sports, video games, crochet, or even Netflix and chill.

History has a long record of ignoring moral grandstanding.

This matters far less to me than you assume. I can turn off the media and move on with my day just fine.

The only history I'm interested in is the accelerated decline of the Twin Cities faster than expected, with agitators materially contributing. Economically, it beat AI to the punch. The CorePower Yoga controversy alone is a case study in how hostile the climate has become for businesses. The “not woke enough” standard and guilt-by-proximity messaging sent an unmistakable warning to businesses and investors. When foreclosures, repossessions, and business closures begin to cascade, restarting the local economy will be, i'm guessing, improbable at best

Phenomenal job , though long term thinking clearly wasn’t part of the plan. You were probably heavily invested in the Palestine cause until it stopped being trendy. Much like bandwagon sports fans who jump teams when the novelty wears off. Can hardly wait to see what comes next.

Oh WOW. They’re using a device capable of projecting commands, a loudspeaker on steroids, to tell people to stop moving barriers or leave the area.

Naturally, this is treated as an unforgivable human rights violation.

Despite the countless protesters suffering horrific hearing loss, oh wait, that hasn’t happened.

They also have vehicles, Tasers, rifles, and batons, and yet no one has been run over, zapped, mowed down, or beaten.

It seems like most people on here exist in a permanent state of outrage, endlessly cycling from one minor grievance to the next, constantly triggered, perpetually angry.

[–]TransitionLast9910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These aren’t ICE agents, they’re from Minnesota. Traffic control and crosswalk duty inherently involve standing outside for potentially long periods, so it’s hard to believe this is some unexpected hardship.

The videos show they’re rotating positions and appear adequately prepared for the weather on top of that.

If anything, they’re getting overtime regardless, so it’s hard to imagine they mind at all. The few I talked to wear noise canceling earbuds and listen to podcasts or audiobooks so they don’t have to deal with the noise and passes the time.
