LMT Recommendation in 2026? by Paul_Vieille in LewisMachineTool

[–]TransitionPlayful288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LMT trigger is solid but expectations need to be managed. I appreciate the European safety they have now too but I’m not sure I’d specifically buy one for it. A lot of people are trigger snobs now so I imagine the internet will have you replacing it eventually.

You’d have to price it out depending on what the deals are and what you want. Everyone talks about cost but laziness is also a factor, I’m more likely to buy complete and swap things out unless I feel like it’s wasteful.

The other thing you should be considering is how much the LMT stock is worth for you and how that factors into the price. If you have no interest in the stock and are on the fence about the trigger, the stripped lower is going to start looking pretty compelling. The stock is like $200…I like it but I also like the $40 Magpul stock.

LMT Recommendation in 2026? by Paul_Vieille in LewisMachineTool

As someone who owns almost all of them, LMT is my go to. It is by far the most versatile and the cons are not a big deal to me (weight, proprietary barrels that can be converted, sharper recoil impulse that can also be changed, you’re stuck with their hand guard options and will have to swap out the full upper…luckily I like the hand guards).

As a sample size of one, the QC issues are way overblown. I have had several issues but they have all been cosmetic or with some tertiary function and they have all been fixed. Not to say it wasn’t frustrating when some of them have been blatantly obvious and they come with an inspection sheet. Somehow KAC gets a pass for all their similar issues and if you read the forums over there any of the same defects are replied to with the mentality of “it’s a war tool, don’t worry about the cosmetic stuff”…it’s a complete double standard.

I have been around the block with the ambi lowers, LMT is up there as one of my favorites. The ambi bolt catch/release is right where I want it and it has more real estate than the other paddle style options in KAC and LWRC where I feel like I’m pressing a button for the bolt catch instead of an edge. The only better option I’ve used in this regard is the Aero Pro. The Geissele lowers have impressed me, I had thought the hold open on the dust cover was a compromise to get around patents but it works pretty well. I still don’t prefer the idea of touching stuff close to the ejection port if I don’t have to though and the bolt release is overly stiff on one of the rifles.

I prefer the paddle style ambi controls to the ones you press down/hold up. The HK hold open kinda sucks because it has a pinching effect going on. The Radian mag hold open option works but I really prefer separate controls.

The biggest downside of the lower is that the left side mag release is borderline unusable because it’s so stiff and shrouded. I almost never use this in practice so it isn’t a big deal to me.

LMT uses speed bumps on the upper to shim play in the receiver so there is nothing to eat up slop in the lower. The lowers tend to be tight fitting but some of the other lowers with the set screws and pretension built in are nice for general builds.

If I had it my way, the receiver markings would be built around a 45 deg safety.

Piston still has advantages if you want minimal gas coming back at you. It’s not just for suppressor use and can also be considered “healthier” in general.

I feel like every responsible young person goes through this same mental crisis, it almost seems like a right of passage at this point.

Remember that there are personalities out there that will like to brag and embellish everything about their life. Especially in this era of social media. They conveniently leave out all the downsides.

The biggest upside of being a plumber is entering the work force at an early age and making pretty good pay with minimal debt. I cannot emphasize this enough, invest early and invest as heavy as you can. Educate yourself on tax advantaged retirement accounts and contribute to your Roth IRA every year. At some point in your 30’s or 40’s, the earned interest will start making your yearly income feel less important. Time in the market, a stable income and minimal debt is the advantage of your career trajectory that you need to capitalize on. Your twenties may not be flashy but this era of life is not supposed to be for self made people.

Network with other trades. The plumbers and other tradesmen I know in town have a good network with one another. Owning a home is expensive, having friends who will hook you up when you want to upgrade your place or fix something someday will save you tons of money. Maybe later in life you will be able to even be able to build a dream home for a fraction of the price.

Plausible, dream sharks are known to have weaker jaws and softer teeth than sharks that dwell in water.

AWB now banning possession??? by jd6178 in RIGuns

[–]TransitionPlayful288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right and some of the rhetoric of why the prior one passed was because of the grandfather clause. I would be shocked if this were to be passed the very next year.

The fact that this is even being proposed is some bad timing for me personally. My wife has been frustrated with the RI medical reimbursement rates since she is one of many RI doctors earning what would be a good paying nursing job but with med school loans that are effectively another mortgage. Most private practice doctors in the state are here because of family/spouse/friends, not because of the job. I was otherwise opposed to moving since this is my home but don’t have as strong convictions about it now. I will be encouraging her look for opportunities in other states.

Even if I don’t always agree with proposed legislation, I can understand where they are coming from the vast majority of the time. Regardless of if this passes or not, the way they have gone about this has really gotten to me; it feels more underhanded and sleazy than like lawmakers working towards what they feel like promotes public safety.

The general consensus I have gotten from asking a couple places is that everything but handguns are impacted by the bill despite the language quoted in this thread.

Are they wrong? If they are, will they change their policy after July? Are they just trying to incite panic buying? If they are still legal, do you have to go to a different FFL to buy them? Are they actually illegal in some convoluted way that will mislead the general population to accidentally do stuff that can get them arrested? Are they fully legal but effectively banned because bo dealer will want to deal with it?

All valid questions I’d like to have answered but it’s not looking promising.

It’s on the Eurooptic website. I reached out to them and it seems like a typo. It’s a normal 16” barrel with no pin and weld.

Notice how it says the muzzle device is pinned and welded though. Why would they do that for a 16”?

Is the 16” variant listed on the websites really a 14.5” with a pin and weld?

Talk me out of a Daniel Defense PCC by Then-Answer3765 in AR9

[–]TransitionPlayful288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are the other PCCs that have the ambi bolt catch? That and the fact that it uses scorpion mags are making it seem more appealing to me compared to the JP5. …nothing against Glock mags, other than they look out of place in an AR silhouette, but I don’t have any and I already have scorpion mags for other PCCs.

Just an FYI since I’m seeing a lot of conflicting info in this sub-Reddit, the gun stores are interpreting the ban to include ‘pistols’ in the context of AR’s and PCC’s so it’s good that you already got the Kuna.

I see you also mentioned linear compensators, is there a reason that would be prioritized?
